Anime Enthusiast Scholarship
One of my favorite animes that I find myself re-watching is, "Black Clover". This anime is following Asta and his friends during his journey of becoming the Wizard King! This anime is a total adventure. You have action, sadness, and even a little romance!
I have always been interested in fantasy animes and this one did not miss the mark. The mages in this anime have all kinds of unique magic. This can vary from the natural elements to light and dark magic. The sky is the limit in this anime!
The main character, Asta, is a boy from a small village who has huge dreams of becoming the Wizard King. However, he has no magic at all! He is a hard-working person trying to do his best to get there. This aspires people who watch this anime to keep working at their own personal goals and to never give up.
Besides all of the action packed fights and the magic, this anime has really great character development. As we go a little further in we a little bit of romance come in and get to know some of the characters better. Its the little things that we see with the characters that really makes us like them. That same principal can be applied in the real world.

The STEM major I am pursuing is Visual Communication Technology, which is in the College of Technology, Architecture, and Applied Engineering at Bowling Green State University. Many people do not know what my major, Visual Communication Technology, entails. Some connect it to creating ideas and throwing them on different device platforms. Others, believe that I just focus on the broadcast side of things. However, my degree allows me to have endless opportunities of connecting creativity with real world issues.
At Bowling Green State University, which I will be attending in Fall of 2023, I will be enrolling in a program that pursues creative and technical problem solving and uses the disciplines of print, photography, video, and interactive media to create content and engagements for the world. Today's world is always changing, and so is my creativity.
I apply creativity to my life every day to help get me ready for this program. I help run WGNN, the newscast produced by my school, every morning. Each day I wake up, pull the most important information and combine it with slight entertainment to capture my audience. I sometimes work in front of the camera to build my public speaking skills. However, other days, I like running the teleprompter which gives lines to the anchors. This allows me to get to know those I am supplying information to and learn their different preferences of communication.
In addition, I also have donated over 500 volunteer hours working with kindergarten through fifth grade students in my school's MakerDen STEM lab. I love demonstrating different activities, such as coding robots, programming educational computer games, and experimenting with science kits to help others to learn about the importance of STEM in our lives. My experiences with helping my peers, teachers, and community members built my confidence to trust my creative process every day and led me to choose a STEM major.
Bold Great Minds Scholarship
A person that I admire from history is Moses. According to the Bible, Moses was God's spokesperson and helped to lead a movement that removed people from their captivity. Personally, I find this religious and historical figure relatable in many ways. When God first called to Moses and asked him to free the Israelite people, Moses was fearful. He did not have full confidence in his public speaking skills, much like me, but still went and performed the task that led to great success. I find this admirable as even though he was scared about his skills and talents, he persevered and followed through with his promise to God and the people.
I believe that following through on commitments and helping those around us is something to be cherished and celebrated. Not everyone would have the guts to approach a king, or anyone in a higher power like this, and demand for injustices to be removed. By Moses choosing to be bold in his demands, he saved thousands of people from horrible mistreatment and potential death.
Today, there continues to be many injustices. While all of these may not be as monumental as what Moses faced, we each still have the opportunity to help those around us by speaking up and doing what is right. What may seem like something small, may be very big for those in need. Standing up for those around us, both now and in Biblical times, is something I admire. To me, Moses is an excellent example of this.
Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
The quality I best admired in myself is good sportsmanship on and off the playing field. Being a good sport goes far beyond telling opponents “good game” at the end of the match. It means being there for them when a play doesn’t go right, always being the first to lend a hand when an injury occurs, and most importantly stepping up to do what it right both on and off the field– even if no one else follows.
I personally play varsity baseball and it can be a tough sport. Everyone must know where and when a player will be located to successfully complete the play. When times get tough on the field, I prefer to stay calm and let others know that I am willing to lend an ear, practice with them, or be the first one there when they get hurt. An immediate example of my good sportsmanship quality is when a former player, who has since graduated, got hit extremely hard with a baseball to the eye. Everyone else thought it was funny and was laughing, but I was immediately there to help him and make sure that he did not need medical assistance. It is not always easy to be the odd one out, but I am willing to do it if it means others are cared for in their time of need. I got laughed at for this action, but I refused to regret it or let it embarrass me as I later learned that former player did appreciate my actions since he could not see immediately after the injury.
I use this same philosophy while evaluating my academics and volunteering in the community. I will graduate with my high school class in 2023, but I have taken over 30 credit hours of college classes through the College Credit Plus Program and all through Bowling Green State University with a perfect 4.0 GPA. I have used this experience to help guide others, ease their worries about potential future classes, and lend a hand when scheduling goes wrong. Paving a path for future students can be difficult, but in my small community, everyone has the chance to succeed with a little help. I also volunteer in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Lab at my school with kindergarten through fifth grade students. I work closely daily with students to help them with materials and lessons. I have already volunteered over 500 hours in the lab and will continue that again in my senior year, as a way to give back to others.
I believe this quality of having good sportsmanship will help me in my life by continuing to push me to do better and always be willing to lend a hand to others. Life is about successes and failures and everyone will need some support during their lifetime – including me. By carrying this quality with me, I will accomplish and receive opportunities in my major of Visual Communication Technology that will provide me with the education and resources to show my good sportsmanship qualities to others and give back to my community.
Bold Deep Thinking Scholarship
The biggest problem facing the world right now is the lack of communication. Everyone has the desire to be heard, yet the world suffers because people are not able to communicate clearly and concisely. This is a massive problem today - especially in the United States. Different groups and organizations are fighting for the attention of the public yet only getting little responses back. People have started attacking other areas and organizations of equal importance. Communication is failing and the public is becoming uninterested in what others have to say. This creates a massive social, political, and environmental problem as there are issues that require the world to think as a whole and not just individually.
I am choosing to study Visual Communication Technology at Bowling Green State University starting in summer of 2023. Personally, I believe that we can work on this problem through visual communication concepts. One visual content piece, such as a social media post, reel, or video, can gain the attention of millions of people all around the world. By focusing more on producing visual content for important organizations that work on real-world issues, more people would be able to be reached and be able to share ideas that communicate their passions more clearly. This would help to unite the world together through already connected social media platforms, websites, and other digital devices. By taking a step back to reevaluate our global communication patterns, the public could be reunited with organizations, non-profits, and companies that are trying to make our world a better place.
Bold Caring for Seniors Scholarship
One of my favorite ways to support the lives of elderly in my community is at our weekly local farmer's market. Each week, I spend quality family time with my mom and older sister. We around to the local communities supporting local farmers and merchants. Many of these merchants are made up of the elderly community. I make it a point to purchase a variety of their products, spend time talking with them, and make sure they know how much they are appreciated. This has become a special time since we have been doing this for quite some time. I have been able to develop a bond with many of the elderly vendors.
While this does support them financially, it also supports them socially and emotionally. Many people do not take the time to have a positive relationship with those types of vendors. Other customers are often in a rush to get their products and leave the market. However, by spending time with those who may not have other company, I feel privileged to be able to offer my support.

Lo Easton's “Wrong Answers Only” Scholarship
1. I deserve this scholarship because I like to spend my time gaming and watching anime in my room by myself. These areas of expertise have made me the person I am today which should be rewarded.
2. While I say I'm going to attend Bowling Green State University, my real goal is to live in my parents' basement which includes free food, cable, internet (to game and watch my anime), and air conditioning.
3. One obstacle I faced is getting over my fear of trying grocery store sushi. My mom went to the store and brought it home for me. I am a fan of seafood, because in my free time I am a food connoisseur. At first I wasn't quite sure, but it ended up tasting okay. I told mom to get more next time she went.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Anxiety and worries were something that I struggled with. It started out with test taking, with my inner thoughts telling me, “You must pass. You have to perform to the best of your ability”. It then moved to making sure every assignment I turned in was done completely correct. I worried over simple questions wondering if the assignments my teachers gave me had a trick question in them that I was going to miss and lose points over. I strived for perfection and I was no stranger to feeling self-doubts when things didn’t go my way.
However, during my middle school years and the beginning of high school, I really wanted to understand my feelings and how it was affecting my mental health. I wanted to continue my high school career working towards the best version of myself. During this time, I did a lot of self-reflection and learned some amazing things about myself and others. The best thing I ever learned from exploring what was fueling my mental health struggles was the reason behind it. I was doubted in school by a few teachers and coaches. They did not believe my skill set and thought that I was not good enough – and once, I was publicly told that. I would never admit that those words bothered me to my core, but something about being humiliated in public fueled my desire to make more of myself than something that person could ever be. I wanted to prove to myself and my community how much I am worth.
I found a way to fuel my self-doubt into a positive way by preparing for my future. At the end of my freshman year of high school, I applied for the College Credit Plus program, which allows high school students the ability to take college classes in high school. I was accepted into the program right away and have completed 24 credits with another 10 credits being taken this summer with a perfect 4.0 college GPA. The program allows me to focus on my future by gaining credits, the ability to spend more time on my major (Visual Communication Technology) when I arrive on campus, and being able to explore different hobbies through extracurriculars. All of these experiences have made me into the rising senior that I am today.
As I once again take time to reflect on my mental health throughout the years, I believe that it has made me a stronger person. I have used the lessons I have learned from the years of anxiety and doubt to always show compassion to others, be willing to lend an ear to listen, and, most importantly, take time for myself to find my passion and make my future brighter.
