    Here's a passage from Plato's "The Republic," specifically from Book VII, where he discusses the allegory of the cave: "And now, I said, let me show in a figure how far our nature is enlightened or unenlightened: Behold! human beings living in an underground den, which has a mouth open towards the light and reaching all along the den; here they have been from their childhood, and have their legs and necks chained so that they cannot move, and can only see before them, being prevented by the chains from turning round their heads." Essay: Unlocking the Shackles of Ignorance in Plato's Allegory of the Cave Plato's Allegory of the Cave, found in Book VII of "The Republic," unveils a profound exploration of human perception, knowledge, and the journey towards enlightenment.     Life is like a cycle, always spinning, endlessly repeating its flow. In this picture, all humans endure the cycles. This cycle has three parts; smooth, shaky, and adapting. We all have ups, downs, but most importantly, our adaptations. As an athlete especially, I have undergone many wins and losses, but also many practices where the team had to adapt to our upcoming opponents’ playstyle. As a child, I grew up in a happy family, my dad and my mom having very sufficient jobs. I had, and still have, an amazing family who are all blessed to go to an extraordinary school. I was living a very easy life, and I never would've thought that I would have to endure difficult times. I wasn’t going through the cycle yet, and it never occurred to me that there could be a cycle to life. After all, I had a loving family, friends, and God on my side. What could possibly go wrong? Well, I was in for a big surprise when I got to high school. At the end of eighth grade, all of my friends left to go to different schools and I went into ninth grade alone. I hadn’t really needed to make friends in my past. My old friends, from kindergarten to eighth grade, were all gone now. The shaky part of the cycle initiated and I realized that I was stranded in a school that I had gone to my entire life. Born an introvert, I had a very difficult time talking to and making friends with my classmates. In the past, most of my dysfunctional social life was excused by Covid-19. However, ninth grade was the first year of in-person learning, after COVID. I was with people who I didn’t know, for hours a day, days on end. I needed to be able to talk with people casually, without the awkwardness. During sophomore year, I got a job as a cashier. On the first day of my job, I looked like the most awkward person to ever walk the face of the earth. When checking out customers, my conversations were very blunt and uncomfortable. I worked, I practiced, and most importantly, adapted. After a couple weeks, I could hold a short conversation without difficulty or uneasiness. I kept on working. After a month, I was an extroverted kid who could start up a conversation without even trying. My life was leveling out, all because of my adaptation. Ever since then, I have made so many friends and had so many conversations, that nobody would guess that I used to be the most socially awkward person in the school. Here I am now, a senior in high school, ready to embark on the next chapter of my life. Going to a new school, with a new atmosphere, and most importantly, new friends. The cycle begins anew. Yet again, I have to make friends and talk to new people. I have to acknowledge the problems I am facing, and deal with them. The thing is, I already know what to do, and how to do it; I understand the cycles. I will meet the challenges head-on. I will adapt and become a better version of myself, pushing myself into the next smooth zone, even though I know that there will always be another shaky zone in front of me. With the power of God and my experience, I can confidently say that I am ready for college, and all the trials with it. This money will mean so much to me, as I will be to follow my dream.
