Living with a chronic medical condition has shaped my life in profound ways, teaching me resilience, patience, and the value of perseverance. From an early age, I learned that even small daily tasks could require careful planning and self-awareness and that setbacks, both expected and unexpected, were part of life. These experiences cultivated a sense of discipline, forcing me to prioritize what truly matters and to find creative solutions to challenges. I discovered that while some limitations cannot be avoided, how I respond to them defines my growth, my attitude, and my ability to impact the world around me. The condition also inspired me to develop a strong sense of empathy. Living with something that is largely invisible to others yet deeply impactful made me more attuned to the struggles and perspectives of those around me. I became motivated to listen carefully, offer support, and understand experiences beyond my own. Over time, this empathy has guided both my personal relationships and my approach to leadership, as I learned that empowering others requires not only encouragement but also a thoughtful awareness of their challenges and aspirations. Facing chronic limitations also sparked my drive to excel academically, artistically, and personally. I realized early on that external circumstances do not determine potential. Instead, commitment, creativity, and resilience do. This mindset has pushed me to explore opportunities that stretch my capabilities, from rigorous academic courses to intensive musical training, and to seek out experiences that challenge me physically, mentally, and emotionally. Each success, no matter how small, reinforced my belief that perseverance and intentional effort can overcome barriers, while each setback became an opportunity to learn patience and self-compassion. Beyond personal achievement, I aim to use my experiences to empower others. I am deeply committed to demonstrating that challenges, even chronic ones, do not define a person’s value, abilities, or potential. By modeling resilience and sharing strategies for navigating adversity, I hope to inspire others facing their own obstacles to approach life with courage, creativity, and determination. I also seek to create spaces through mentorship, collaboration, or community engagement where people feel seen, supported, and capable of growth. In doing so, I hope to foster environments that celebrate individual strengths while encouraging collective empathy, understanding, and action. Ultimately, living with a chronic condition has been both a challenge and a teacher. It has instilled in me a strong sense of discipline, self-awareness, and adaptability while nurturing empathy, compassion, and a commitment to helping others navigate their own journeys. These lessons continue to inspire my personal and academic growth and fuel a desire to make a meaningful difference in the world. I have learned that limitations can coexist with excellence and that resilience, creativity, and empathy are powerful tools for creating positive impact both in my life and in the lives of those I hope to empower.

Around five years ago, I was on a commercial flight aboard Southwest Airlines from Chicago Midway Airport to New York City Laguardia Airport when our captain announced a loss of our left engine. The entirety of the aircraft had been overwhelmed with fear and prayer as the notion of a plane crash took hold. However, due to a skilled pilot and the well-built mechanical construction of the Boeing 737-800 airplane, we landed safely at Detroit Metro International Airport. If I were to be granted the resources to pursue an education in aircraft maintenance, I would be living my passion in the form of my dream career. From that moment on, I felt an inseparable love for aviation and the design of airplanes. One of my closest family friends also flies long-haul international routes for United Airlines and being able to converse with him about his experience has just expanded my passion for aviation. Often, I drive to my home airports of Chicago O'hare and Midway just to watch and take pictures of all the departing and arriving planes which acts as a relaxing retreat away from reality. The fact that one can walk through a door, take a seat for a few hours, and arrive at a new destination is utterly magical and evidently brings light to the world of travel and nature. Airplanes are able to link family members, carry couples to honeymoons and weddings, provide thousands of people with careers, open our eyes to different cultures, and demonstrate innovation and technological advancements. I am fathomed by the diversity of worldwide cultures and pursuing a career in aircraft maintenance allows me to provide others with that exposure to different walks of life. I find myself extremely observant in the world of physics and how the planet provides us with the natural wonders we use for flight and travel. There is no question that I have always been intrigued by solutions for various problems and re-working the physical or chemical makeup of certain objects to allow for easier transportation and a demonstration of inevitable innovation in technology. I feel a sense of accomplishment when my methods of maintaining aircraft prove successful and as an aircraft maintenance professional, I will be able to provide help to aeronautic companies while also living a passion of mine. Furthermore, in 2020 I was granted the opportunity to observe and join in the mending of a Cessna 120 aircraft which further ignited my longing for a career in aircraft technology and maintenance. I plan to provide assistance to such a diverse industry of transportation and aeronautics while also allowing average passengers to connect with others of different cultures. My passion lies in aeronautics and by pursuing an education in aircraft maintenance, I will be granted the privilege to relive my dream every day for years in the future.

My experiences both inside and outside the classroom have profoundly shaped my creative and leadership abilities, contributing directly to the development and success of While on the Journey. Within the classroom, my study of aviation has taught me discipline, precision, and problem-solving under pressure. Learning to manage complex systems, think critically, and maintain focus even in high-stress situations has translated seamlessly into the rigorous process of creating a cinematic musical. Writing and orchestrating music, coordinating narrative arcs, and managing symbolic staging require meticulous planning, attention to detail, and a constant ability to anticipate challenges and skills that my academic training has reinforced. Outside the classroom, my involvement in musical theatre, choir, and vocal jazz has deepened my understanding of storytelling, emotional expression, and collaboration. Performing and studying music have taught me how to convey complex emotions, build tension, and guide an audience through narrative arcs using sound and rhythm. Participating in ensemble work has reinforced the importance of listening, adapting, and valuing each participant’s contribution—lessons I now apply directly as I lead collaborators in composing, designing, and refining While on the Journey. These experiences have instilled a unique balance of creativity and structure in my leadership, allowing me to both inspire and organize my team toward a shared vision. Learning a foreign language has added another layer to my growth, enabling me to connect with others in ways that extend beyond words. Language study has fostered empathy, cultural awareness, and sensitivity to different perspectives and qualities that are essential in creating authentic, relatable stories. It has shown me that understanding another person’s worldview requires patience, curiosity, and attentiveness, all of which inform how I develop diverse characters and emotionally resonant narratives. Through this lens, I can approach my audience and collaborators with a deeper awareness of the human experience, enhancing the universality and accessibility of the story I tell. The intersection of these experiences, academic rigor, musical artistry, and cultural empathy has been central to my success in leading While on the Journey. The project is ambitious, blending original music, symbolic visuals, and multi-layered storytelling to explore themes of courage, empathy, and personal growth. Each micro-conflict, storm sequence, and symbolic artifact is carefully crafted to reflect internal struggles and moral choices, demonstrating my ability to translate abstract concepts into tangible, emotionally impactful experiences. My leadership requires guiding collaborators in music composition, visual design, and narrative refinement, while maintaining the project’s thematic integrity and emotional resonance. This balance of vision, structure, and adaptability has been strengthened by the cumulative lessons I have learned both in and out of the classroom. Ultimately, my experiences have not only enhanced my creative and leadership skills but have also shaped my perspective on the power of storytelling itself. While on the Journey is more than a musical. It is a platform for fostering empathy, inspiring moral reflection, and encouraging audiences to engage meaningfully with the world around them. The discipline of aviation, the artistry of music, and the cultural awareness gained from language study all converge in this project, equipping me to create a story that is not only entertaining but transformative. Through these experiences, I have learned that success comes from combining skill, vision, and compassion, and that meaningful leadership requires both guiding others and listening deeply to the world around you.

Aviation can bring distant relatives together, reunite old friends fly happily married couples to journeys far flung from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It connects the yearning soul to cultures unknown to the homeland senses. All the while, aviation continues to act as one of the most vital industries of all time. As I climbed aboard flights as a young child, I became enthralled in how innovative the technology was. How a 50,000 ton metal tube can lift off the ground without so much as the swing of a feather. How these pilots can manage such a complex system of computers and mechanics. From those moments on, I was inspired. In later years, I grew intrigued with avionic mechanics and technological systems. Asking myself questions such as: “How can such a complex machine be controlled by artificial computerized software?” Soon after, every aspect of my aviation knowledge began to grow exponentially. I put together dioramas and realistic models, designed my own airports and how to create the most streamlined flight procedures. I watched air-disaster television episodes and applied my knowledge to reforms and mechanical failures in true aviation cases. As I've aged, I've become even more enthralled in the industry and being a current student pilot is a dream of mine. It is truly exhilarating playing a role in an industry where aspects are constantly innovating and shaping the future. It truly takes a whole team of dedicated individuals to help ensure millions of people and countless tons of precious cargo can fulfill their needs. So much of the work being to ensure a safe and efficient system is thanks to the technicians, engineers, service employees, pilots, and the true heart and soul of the industry: the public. Aviation also helps to enrich many with far and exotic locations and helps to connect the world together. I have always had an urge to explore different cultures and getting the opportunity to provide passengers with such a vital service while also involving myself in cultural experiences and connecting with others of different walks of life is something that I hold truly close to my heart and that spark is something I will cherish for years to come. There dawns a sense of freedom once the wheels lift off the ground and all the pressure, stress, fear, and struggle of life seems to effortless float away in an instant. I've been fortunate to share my knowledge, experiences, and industry presence within my community and throughout the many aspiring pilots I am so grateful to learn with. Aviation truly does have such a hold on my heart and fall asleep every night ecstatic for my dreams of being a commercial pilot to become a reality.
