Hello! I'm a passionate first generation psychology student at Arizona State University with a deep curiosity for the human mind. However, my passion for computers and technology far outweighs my interest in Psychology. Despite the challenges of the major, and the field being mostly male dominated, my goal is to switch majors to Computer Science in 2024, and also to pursue a minor in psychology. My goal is to bridge the gap between creativity and technology, utilizing my background in digital art and psychology to enhance my coding endeavors. I'm also interested in artifical intelligence, and I feel as if it strikes the perfect balance between psychology and technology.

Ethan To Scholarship
My journey into the realms of psychology is not merely an academic pursuit but a testament to the resilience that stems from battling mental health challenges. From a young age, I found myself entangled in the complexities of mental health, facing a diagnosis of depression and anxiety at the young age of 11. My struggles with ADHD added another layer of difficulty to my academic journey, creating a chaotic backdrop against which my ambitions took root.
Raised in a single-parent household with financial struggles, the pursuit of education became a battlefield where survival often took precedence over scholarly endeavors. The struggles of a growing up in such a turbulent household, coupled with the weight of financial instability, became the garden where my passions would bloom.
At 14, a shadow loomed over my life as I faced a harrowing battle with my own thoughts, resulting in a suicide attempt. The darkness persisted, casting its veil over my teenage years, culminating in another desperate attempt at the age of 17. These experiences, though haunting, became the fire in which my resilience was forged. I am greatful to be here today, to hopefully be able to build a better future for myself.
The focus on mental health within the scholarship, in memory of Ethan To, resonates deeply with my journey. It acknowledges the silent struggles faced by countless individuals, emphasizing the importance of providing support and encouragement to those navigating the intricate terrain of mental health challenges.
Choosing a career path in psychology is not a detached decision; it is an intimate dance with the shadows that have shaped my own life. The desire to understand the nuances of the human mind, driven by personal battles, propels me toward a future where I can contribute to the well-being of others grappling with their own mental health challenges.
Despite the adversities, my academic pursuits have not wavered. While the mental strain of growing up in a low-income, turbulent household caused setbacks my GPA of 3.5 stands as a testament to my unwavering commitment to pursuing a better life for myself.
The scholarship's emphasis on supporting low-income undergraduates and graduates studying psychology aligns seamlessly with myself. As a first-generation college student, the financial burden is not just a statistic but a daily reality that shapes my academic reality.
In the face of adversity, my ambition remains steadfast. It is the guiding force that transforms each challenge into an opportunity for growth. The drive to overcome the shackles of mental health challenges and financial instability fuels my pursuit of a career where I can make a tangible impact on the lives of others.
