My name is Bella Rose Hise. I am a 17-year-old senior at Gallatin County High School in Junction, Illinois. I am enrolled in the CTE (Career and Technical Education) program, where I am pursuing my studies in Nursing school pre-requirements. In the upcoming summer semester, I intend to continue taking the necessary prerequisites for an RN (Registered Nurse) program at Southeastern Illinois College.
I take pride in my strong attendance record at my educational institution and place of employment. My commitment to my studies has allowed me to achieve a 4.1 GPA. I am currently undertaking the role of a manager at my local Taco Bell, this has helped me develop valuable leadership and management skills. Additionally, I accepted a job at Hardin County Pharmacy following an unpaid internship. I have been employed at Taco Bell for nearly two years and have worked at the pharmacy for four months.
I am applying for this scholarship because I need help to achieve my professional aspirations. My family has faced systematic financial challenges for generations, which has motivated me to seek higher education and create meaningful change within my household. The experiences of my parents and grandparents regarding economic hardship have changed my outlook on life. My mom would share stories of our financial struggles, which inspired me to overcome these obstacles.
I am resolute in my commitment to achieving a better future for my family and myself. Through perseverance and hard work, I am confident that I can achieve my goals and endeavor in a positive impact within my community. This scholarship will play a crucial role in enabling me to reach my full potential and effectuate lasting change for my family and future generations. I am determined to embrace a positive impact on people's lives because that is what I want to be remembered for when I am gone.
I have chosen the medical field as my career because it is my true calling. I am driven to help and care for those who cannot care for themselves, this profession holds a place in my heart. I am excited to see what my future will bring and I will succeed with my career and schooling. I am ready to embark on this next chapter in my life, I know nursing will represent challenges, but I will not give up. I enjoy consulting and talking to patients about their lives at the pharmacy. These interactions deepen my resolve.
After high school, I plan to enroll in an RN (Registered nurse) program at my local community college. I would like to continue attending my local college after I graduate from the RN program. I want to continue schooling until I receive my BSN (Bachelor's Degree in Nursing). If the circumstances allow me, I would love to continue school after getting my Bachelor's. I want to get the highest degree that my finances will allow.
Being a first-generation college student presents its challenges, but it only serves to strengthen my motivation to succeed in my career. Attending college and obtaining a higher education is incredibly important to me. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to pursue higher education. Once I earn my degree, I want everyone to recognize how fortunate I am to have this chance in life. I will never take for granted the opportunities available to me. In our country, we are fortunate to have access to valuable resources and educational programs. We all must take full advantage of these opportunities. Never let your setbacks take over!

My mental health is the biggest aspect of my grades and academic performance. I believe mental health affects everyone and that to be doing well in school, you need to nourish your mind. I have been in a bad mental state while trying to keep up with my studies. To be motivated and be the best you can be you need to have an energized and confident mindset. Your mind can not work properly when you overuse, underrest, and drain yourself. Taking care of your mind and body affects your whole life, especially your education. Care for yourself first.
Last year I worked 40 hours a week, late nights after school while taking difficult classes and I became very overwhelmed. I was working all weekend every weekend early in the morning. After multiple months, I could not do it anymore. I was being mean to everyone and my work no longer allowed me to work 5 days a week. All of my coworkers could tell it was too much. At 16, and overworking my mind, I could not keep up. I wish I had realized sooner that I needed to change my schedule.
Even though I now have 2 jobs while attending full-time high school and college, I am in a much better mindset and care for my mind. It is okay to like being busy and getting ahead in life. I enjoy keeping myself busy. Remember that you can not perform at your best while not caring for yourself. You must be the best version of yourself to succeed and perform tasks to the best ability. Mental health is the most important part of life.
No matter what you must have self-care, meditation, healthy food, and exercise. These are my properties and I believe if you do not have time for those simple pleasures, you are overworking yourself. You can pamper yourself by getting a manicure or pedicure. I enjoy getting facials. You can relax by doing any activity that you like. Put yourself first because you are what matters!
Watching my mom and my best friend growing up struggling with major mental health issues has made me prioritize mental health. I encourage everyone in my life to take care of themselves even if you don't think you need it, you do. Some people do not realize they are overwhelmed or have worked too much until they get a day off. whenever I finally had a break from life, I did not know what to do with myself.
Being a busy person changes you. Even when I have a few days at home, I still feel the urge to get things done because I believe that's what I should do. My mind wants a break but my body does not. I have an addiction to work. I do not feel like I deserve a day to do nothing. Sitting around now drives me crazy and I can't stay home all day. No matter what I have to do something that I think is productive.
I'm glad I realized I needed to put myself first. Self-care makes me feel like a different person after a long hard day at work or school. If parents, educators, and bosses would make mental health more of a priority I think younger people would do better in school and not dread work after school like I did. Whether it's taking time off of work or a mental health day at school.

Learner Online Learning Innovator Scholarship for Veterans
I am a high school student who is also enrolled in college. Studying can often be stressful but I've found that there are fun and engaging methods to make it easier. One of my primary studying resources is the app and website Quizlet. On Quizlet, you can study any subject in various ways, and share your materials with classmates. You can also get access to even better resources when purchasing Quizlet Plus! I have used this app as a studying resource for years, Quizlet has helped me achieve a 4.1 GPA! I have primarily studied for science classes such as Zoogoly and Anatomy and Physiology (A&P).
Another positive aspect of Quizlet is that it saves all of the study materials you make throughout your semester so when exams come around you do not have to search for those materials. I truly believe that the wealth of resources available on the internet has been a game changer for students, offering support and enhancing our ability to grasp complex subjects effectively. Having access to different learning styles and approaches online has helped me with confidence. Everyone deserves a break during Finals week!
Grammarly has also been a valuable tool while writing essays. It has an extension you can download onto your device that will correct anything you write. This can help you learn to speak properly, spell correctly, and explain situations more effectively. Grammarly and Quizlet make it easier to apply knowledge to the subject at hand. They provide a fun and effective way to study. Without these resources, I would have struggled more in my challenging classes. I believe that online tools and resources have tremendously benefitted students.
My classmates and I often share the flashcard sets we make on Grammarly to study for our tests. Most high school, middle school, and college students use these resources to further their understanding Grammarly and Quizlet make it easier to apply your knowledge to the subject. Before using Grammarly, my sentences sounded plain and boring, and I struggled to incorporate intricate details into my stories and make everything flow together. Online tools, resources, and platforms make studying simple.
The internet hosts a variety of educational tools, from comprehensive study guides and informative podcasts to virtual study groups that foster collaboration among students. These resources have made me better understand difficult subjects. They have injected a sense of excitement into my studies. The ability to access diverse learning materials tailored to my preferred style has been instrumental in deepening my understanding of complex topics. I sincerely believe that the multitude of resources available online has revolutionized the way students like myself navigate their academic journeys, making learning an enriching and less intimidating experience

If I could start a charity, it would be to raise money for children without assistance. We are in a parenting crisis, and many children need guidance in life. It saddens me that children do not get the proper discipline and attention required for general skills. Most children need extra attention to succeed academically in life.

I am applying for this scholarship because I need help to achieve my professional aspirations. I am excited to see what my future will bring, and I will succeed in my career and schooling. I am ready to embark on this next chapter in my life, I know nursing will represent challenges, but I will not give up. I enjoy consulting and talking to patients about their lives at the pharmacy. These interactions deepen my resolve.
After high school, I plan to enroll in an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) program at my local community college. I will continue going to my local college after I graduate from the LPN program and continue to become an RN (registered nurse). I want to continue schooling until I receive my BSN (bachelor's Science in nursing). If the circumstances allow me, I would love to continue school after getting my bachelor's degree.

Whenever I was 14, my parents took me to Glacier National Park in Montana. This gave me a deep understanding and appreciation of nature and how beautiful and diverse our amazing planet is. We are lucky to have the resources and land that we have access to. It is important to nourish and care about our planet so that we do not ruin it. Not only are we being kind to the earth, but we are also respecting the animals. This is their home; we are simply living in it. Would you want someone to destroy your home to be more comfortable in a world they think is theirs?
If you travel, you will realize that the planet we live on is so much bigger than us. We are merely ants. There are an endless number of new places to soak up and thrive in. We should have more respect towards our mother earth. I have also been that person to walk up and down, my road and pick up trash or tell people not to litter. Ever since I was little, I wanted to preserve our world, taking this trip made me understand why. I remember getting onto my cousin at 5 or 6 because she threw trash on the ground. I told her she was killing dolphins.
While visiting the park we hiked 30 or 40 miles in total. One day we hiked to Iceberg Lake. Although the trek was 10 miles round trip, it was the best decision I made. The scenery was so beautiful. It felt surreal and like I was in a dream. The views are unimaginable, breathtaking and overwhelming. This experience shaped me a lot as a person. It showed me how big the world is and how small my problems are. We shouldn't be worrying about useless things when there is a whole world to explore. Take a walk, you might see something beautiful, even if it is just a butterfly or an ant hill.
My trip to Glacier Park gave me a deeper desire to travel, educate others, and keep living a clean life. Traveling and living and zero waste life is my ultimate goal at some point in life. I have to get through nursing school first! Keeping waste to a minimum and always properly disposing of trash will save our planet. The more we care for our planet, the more it nourishes for us. In my opinion, nature is the biggest gift we have, and it is unexplainable and never ending.

My favorite athlete is Simone Biles. Whenever I was little, I taught myself how to do gymnastics at my house. I loved to do flips, and I was great at it. My dad built me a beam out of wood, and I had a blue mat. I even broke my bed trying to do a backflip. Although I did it 2 boards snapped in my bed. My parents still have no idea. I got all of my ideas from watching her on the TV. She inspired me to try harder and she had so much fun!
I watched her in the Olympics of 2020. Then I was still tumbling, but I knew I had to quit. Watching her made my heart race, but I knew she was doing amazing regardless. How does she always look flawless? She was perfect in my eyes. You could even say stunning! She seemed like she never made a mistake, and her outfit and hair were always done well. I always watched a bit of the 2024 Olympics, and she proved again how good she is and how hard she works. I felt like a kid getting a rush of adrenaline watching him perform. It made me miss gymnastics.
Simone also inspired me because she was so young and brave. She made herself a life and career by working extremely hard. I wanted to work just as hard as she did at gymnastics. I wanted to practice for hours and hours. When I was 7 or 8, I often found her coming up in videos on my tablet. I used to love watching YouTube or sometimes Netflix. I frequently watched cheer and gymnastics videos because they inspired me, and I always thought she was beautiful. She was my idol, and I wanted to be just like her. I took a few years' worth of classes and got good fast.
Still today I look up to her a lot. Now I learn her life story as I get older, and sometimes I think I should have stuck with gymnastics. Right now, I have 2 jobs to get by so I can't go to my old gym anymore, but I can still tumble anytime. I am thankful that I had someone like her to look up to as a little kid and she put a lot of hope and motivation in my 10-year-old self. I'm glad I was smart enough to teach myself gymnastics because it brought me out of my shell. Before I started gymnastics, I was shy and didn't have many friends because of my shyness. Simone Biles has been a pillar in my life, and I will always have respect for her.

"Xanny" - Billie Elish wrote this song to spread awareness about drug abuse and overdose that leads to death. Many of my close family members have overdosed and passed away or are currently incarnated for drug-related crimes. I have also, undoubtedly, seen people that I love slowly fade away because of the monster that is addiction. She is also a teenage girl, like me, so it makes me happy to see young people advocating against drugs. Spreading awareness about drugs is important to me since I live in a community with a serious drug problem. This song makes me reflect on how drugs will affect life.
"Idontwannabeyouanymore"- This song is about not liking yourself. You could dislike your appearance or personality. My best friend has always struggled with extreme mental health issues, and I always have done my best to help her. Seeing the worst deep pit of someone's depression and self-hate is difficult, especially when you love them. I believe that she is beautiful, and it hurts me to see her fighting for mental happiness. This song makes me understand what she is going through.
"Anonymous"- This song is about how we kill the earth and climate change. We should leave the forests and seas to the animals. I love planting trees and picking up trash everywhere. Even when I was little, I stuck to living a clean life and reducing my carbon footprint. It is their home, and we do not have a right to invade their space. We have plenty of space for ourselves. Only we can save our earth!

When I was sixteen, my grandmother was diagnosed with two different types of cancer. My grandma is in her sixties and retired. I spent a lot of time with her as a child. My mom has a cosmetology salon next to my grandparents' home. When my brother and I were children, we would come along to work with her. Unfortunately, my parents could not afford to receive help to watch their children while they worked but having my grandparents close made me very close to them. My whole life my grandma has enjoyed having the family over for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. When she got sick, my parents cooked all the food at home, and we took the holidays with them.
My Grandma is my dad's mother. My grandma has lived a full life. She has worked in many different fields and given life to many children. She has always enjoyed gardening and cooking, baking, specifically for family members and close family friends. She is an excellent cook, and she is always sending us food home when we go and see her. She also loves to read, attend church every Sunday, and go out with friends. The front of her house is covered in flower bushes. When I was spending time with her as a child, I loved to water her flowers for her.
I am very grateful that my grandparents were my babysitters growing up. It made me closer to all of my family and taught me the importance of holding your family close. I remember learning and trying new recipes, taking her dog on walks, or going up to the restaurant she used to work at, where we would get root beer floats. She would also always hang my school pictures up in her house and we would enjoy ice cream from the ice cream truck often. I am a grandma's girl. I hold our memories close to my heart and thank God for my grandma and family.
When I found out that my grandma was sick, I was scared, nervous, and lost. I didn't know what to think or feel. I went to hug her, and I am a very emotional person, so I was very hurt and had a lot of mixed feelings. It is hard to sleep sometimes or hear about cancer because I think about what could happen. My grandma is the strongest, bravest person I know, and I am very proud of her. I pray to God every day to give her the strength that she needs to beat this parasite. Overall, everyone can only hope for the best and even though this affects me mentally, I try and stay strong for my grandma and only get upset alone. Cancer can get mentally exhausting, and you may be like me, and feel out of control of life. Every day is a new day to be positive. Love Life.
