Bio

Hello, my name is Belen Evans, a current senior at Cristo Rey Jesuit Highschool. I come from a single hard-working mother. I have managed to find opportunities in my challenges and learn new skills. I love supporting my communities and many more. When I grow up I want to become an Engineer, since I love coding and math! Im applying for scholarships in order to continue my education at my dream college and pay for school. Growing up in a low-income family is pretty hard even if it’s a single-parent household. Both my sister and I will be attending college this coming fall of 2021. To reduce my mom’s stress in having to pay a lot of money for both of our education, we took it upon ourselves to help each other apply to many scholarships. With the rise of COVID-19, my mom was left without a job for a few months, which put a lot of strain on my mom. This 2020 epidemic, definitely changed our lives and many others’ lives in many ways. For example; since my mom lost her job, we had to manage to pay the bills differently, but only the food and essentials that we needed, not use a lot of light or water, and pay our school tuition in small bills. While this happened, I made sure to do well in school and help her around the house so that she won’t have to worry about those small things. My mom is one of my biggest inspirations and I would never let her down since I have seen her overcome struggles and have shaped me into the young woman I am today.

My name is Belen Evans from Cristo Rey Jesuit College Prep of Houston. My favorite hobbies include: spending time with my family, traveling, reading adventure and motivational books, trying new things and meeting new people(getting out of my comfort zone), cooking, and finally math, when I say math, I like solving equations and learning how to solve equations; I find it really fascinating. I am a current senior and have made a list of two long-term and two short-term goals. My first short-term goal includes: Pick one of my 3 final college choices and attend the college in the fall to pursue my major in Engineering. My second Short-term goal includes: To apply to at least 2-3 scholarships a week in order to help my single hard-working mother. My first Long-term goal includes: To learn more about the stock market and invest in a group of stocks throughout the year. My second Long-term goal includes: To not procrastinate and give and do my best to my ability in anything and everything! When planning to pursue my goals, I want to be consistent and not let myself down if there is a challenge that comes my way so that I can pursue my goals with what I need. I want to pursue them by gaining good habits and working for them in order to make them come true. With hard work and discipline, we are all able to achieve and do what we set in our mind. As I reflect and think about what I would like to achieve in life and grow, I want to achieve good habits and routines that will help me get to my goal. When I grow up, I want to become either a Civil or Industrial Engineer. With my goal of becoming one, I am committed to growing, branching out, challenging my challenges, and doing what gets me out of my comfort zone in order to continue going. When thinking about what excites me more about this world, is being able to live in it another day! It is important to be grateful and have gratitude every day of our life in order to love each other and what is around us. Personally, a few years back when I did not do my affirmations, gratitude, and had goals for my day, I felt lost, depressed, stressed, and much more since I never paid attention to what is really more important than talking about someone that deserves to be loved. Today, with my morning routine of doing my affirmations, my gratitude, prayer, and reading I have never felt more jubilant about what comes and goes around me and the world. What also excites me about this world is being able to share and do good for people who truly are in need of them, in order to not feel good about yourself; but knowing that supporting, and helping is good and gives smiles to many. In regards to how I plan on giving back to others and my community, I always do my research first. I look around and research things that I see and read that is happening in not just mine but in other communities so that I can look for a plan and ways to fix what is happening. In the past and currently, I love and am always open to finding ways to help and support those who need it the most. I personally have had a really hard past in which I will never forget since it built me into who I am today. When I grow up and as I continue my life-time in this beautiful and abundant world, as an Engineer I plan on creating something that many will benefit from and from which many in my community and around the world will truly use wisely. I want to be able to make something that not only the wealthy have and can buy, but also will those who most need it. I have many ideas in mind that will truly bring all united and happy and will make wonders to many people.

I went to a Spanish-speaking country and in that country, I stayed in a community with a host family. In the community, I would go to schools and teach kids about bullying, teach them English, have dynamics with them, and play games. I would also go around the community to pick up trash and gather teens to help as well. We painted and worked on projects that the community needed help with and wanted to have in the community.
