Bio

My goal is to become a Pen tester for a cybersecurity company to protect peoples personal information and to ensure a safe data center for whichever company I decide to work for. I am disabled physically and use a walker, so a Computing job is perfect for me. I personally believe I am a great candidate because I am pushing through every day with as much effort as I can, despite my inability to walk without my mobility aid, and I have kept my grades up even as my body has continued to struggle.

I remember the first day I fell and could not get up very vividly. I had already been using a cane at this point in time. My body was becoming more unstable by the day and no doctors had been able to tell me anything except that it may be my weight. The day I fell I had been walking throughout the store with my friends and already had to leave early because I felt faint. I managed to get home safely, but as soon as I stepped into the building I fell onto my knees. This had happened before, my legs had given out many times before. However, when I went to stand up, nothing happened. I could not feel my legs anymore, and I had lost all the ability to move them. I stayed there for ten minutes unable to do anything. When I finally stood up, I made a doctors appointment for as soon as I could. At the doctors, they went to tell me the usual explanation. Instead, I put my foot down and told them that it could not be my weight, there would not be any reason for my weight to mean that I was paralyzed for ten minutes. I held my ground and did not let them talk me out of seeing a specialist. I got to schedule the neurology appointment after that. It turns out I most likely have dysautonomia, which means that my nervous system is the issue, not my weight, not diabetes, nothing that the doctors said it was. Since then, I realized that I am skilled in advocating for myself. After that realization, I have also used my ability to speak up to aid those who cannot, whether out of fear or inability. It is a personal believe that everyone deserves to succeed and to live a fulfilling life. I know that the world can be unfair, unjust and leave people similar to me with little to no support. This knowledge alone gave me the motivation to give myself the task of advocating for everyone, not just myself, so that we can all receive the assistance necessary to complete our life goals. Whether that be to have a family, to be the first to go to college, or to just live and be comfortable without the worry of if dinner is going to be on the table that night. No one deserves to be forgotten about and left behind. I trust that this quality will assist me in my life journey tremendously. I am physically disabled, queer, and a person of color. I come from a low income, abusive family and was necessitated by them to support myself since the day I turned 18. I have been doing everything on my own for so long that I now have the tools to help others who are in the same position I was two years ago. If I had not stood my ground and advocated for myself, I do not believe I would be here today. Alongside wanting to support my future, I also want to be able to support other people in need in the future as well. I plan on using my advocacy skills to lead groups within my community and to give people a place to call home, people to call family. This would be my way of giving back to a community that was so helpful during my lowest times, so that they can someday do the same thing.
