Hilliard L. "Tack" Gibbs Jr. Memorial Scholarship
My name is Beatriz and I'm a college freshman pursuing a degree in economics. As an immigrant from Venezuela and a member of a low-income family, I believe I have a unique perspective on the power of economics to shape societies and people's lives. The Hilliard L. "Tack" Gibbs Jr. Memorial Scholarship would be important in helping me continue my education by easing the financial burden of college tuition and fees.
My passion for economics originates directly from my immigrant background. Growing up in Venezuela, I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of economic mismanagement on an entire population. Watching families struggle with hyperinflation, shortages of basic goods, and lack of economic opportunity lit a flame in me to understand and address these complex issues. This scholarship would not only support my academic journey but would also fuel my determination to make a difference in the economy.
The decision to pursue a degree in economics was born from both personal experience and a desire to create positive change. The strict nature of this field demands dedication and perseverance, qualities I have developed through my experiences as an immigrant adjusting to a new country. I'm committed to excelling in my studies, understanding that the knowledge I gain will be crucial to addressing real-world economic challenges.
After graduation, I aim to work in economic development, where I can apply my knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact. Whether through research, policymaking, or collaboration with international organizations, I aim to contribute to the creation of stable and prosperous economies, both in the United States and in countries like Venezuela. I believe that by understanding and addressing economic issues, I can help improve lives and create more equitable societies.
This scholarship would not only ease my financial burden, but it would also validate my ambition and drive to succeed in this challenging field. It would allow me to focus more on my studies and extracurricular activities related to economics, rather than worrying only about how to fund my education. Furthermore, it would serve as a motivating factor, reminding me of the faith placed in my potential and fueling my passion to excel in my chosen field.
In conclusion, studying economics is more than a career choice for me – it is a calling inspired by my life experiences and desire to create positive change. With the support of the Hilliard L. "Tack" Gibbs Jr. Memorial Scholarship, I'm confident that I can achieve my goals and honor the memory of a dedicated scientist by contributing significantly to the field of economics.

If I could improve one item in the world, my choice would unequivocally be Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. AI is an incredibly promising field that has the potential to revolutionize every facet of our lives and society. However, it is still in its developing stages, and there is ample room for enhancement and growth.
AI has the potential to automate monotonous tasks, thereby freeing human beings to focus their energies on more creative and complex problems. For instance, in the healthcare industry, AI can be utilized to automate data entry tasks. This would free up valuable time for healthcare professionals, allowing them to devote more time to patient care and the humanistic elements of medicine that are often neglected due to time constraints.
Moreover, enhanced AI could lead to the development of more accurate diagnostic tools. This could have a profound impact on the healthcare industry, potentially saving countless lives by enabling earlier and more accurate diagnoses. In this way, improving AI could have a direct and tangible impact on human well-being.
The realm of education could also benefit immensely from advancements in AI technology. AI can be used to personalize learning, adapt to the individual needs of each student, provide instant feedback, and foster a more engaging and interactive learning environment. An improvement in AI could lead to a more inclusive and efficient education system, breaking down barriers to high-quality education and contributing to a more educated and informed society.
Furthermore, AI has the potential to tackle some of the world's most pressing and complex problems, such as climate change and poverty. For instance, AI can be used to analyze vast amounts of data to predict weather patterns and natural disasters. This could provide invaluable insights to help us mitigate the effects of climate change, and potentially save lives by predicting natural disasters with higher accuracy.
In terms of poverty, AI can be used to optimize resource allocation, ensuring that help reaches those who need it the most. This could revolutionize philanthropy and aid distribution, making our efforts to combat poverty more efficient and effective.
However, it is essential to note that the improvement of AI must be accompanied by robust ethical guidelines to prevent misuse and ensure responsible deployment. We need to ensure that AI is used in a way that respects privacy, promotes fairness, and does not contribute to social inequality. The ethical considerations of AI are as important, if not more so, than the technological advancements themselves.
Overall, improving AI has the potential to significantly transform society. It could lead to more efficient and effective healthcare and education systems, help us tackle global issues, and ultimately, create a better world. However, we must also remain vigilant and ensure that the advancement of AI does not come at the cost of our values and principles. The potential of AI is exciting, but we must tread carefully to ensure that it is used responsibly and ethically.
God Hearted Girls Scholarship
From a tender age, my journey of faith began by serving as an altar server from the age of 9 to 18 years old. This early life experience of serving in the church has been incredibly instrumental in shaping my relationship with Jesus, which has become the cornerstone of my faith. This commitment, which spanned a decade, has not only allowed me to foster a profound understanding of my faith but has also nurtured a potent sense of purpose and a resilient moral compass that guides my actions and decisions.
During my formative years in the church, I learned and internalized the value of service, humility, and compassion, principles that Jesus himself embodied and promoted. These principles have greatly influenced my worldview and the way I interact with those around me.
This relationship with Jesus has had a significant impact on my faith, providing me with a strong foundation of beliefs and values that I could rely on during challenging times. The teachings of Jesus have instilled in me the virtues of having faith in myself and others, being patient and understanding, and offering forgiveness. These qualities have not only been invaluable in my personal journey but have also helped me navigate life's ups and downs with grace and dignity.
As I transition into this new phase of life, the next step for me is to integrate my faith into my educational journey. I do not view my faith as a separate entity from my education, but rather as something that deeply enriches it. My faith is a lens through which I view the world, and it teaches me to approach every situation with an open heart and mind. This quality is crucial in the pursuit of knowledge, and I believe that my relationship with Jesus will guide me in my studies, enabling me to approach every challenge with strength and grace.
Furthermore, I plan to continue my involvement in faith-based activities during my educational journey. I am particularly interested in joining a campus ministry or a faith-based student organization. These activities will provide me with a supportive community of like-minded individuals who share the same faith and values. In addition, involvement in such groups will also offer opportunities for me to exercise my faith practically through service to others, a principle that aligns with the teachings of Jesus.
Lastly, I aim to use my education as a tool to embody and enact the teachings of Jesus in my community. I wholeheartedly believe that the knowledge and skills I will gain throughout my educational journey will equip me to make meaningful contributions to society. Whether it's through volunteering, advocacy work, or my chosen career path, I intend to embody the principles of my faith in every aspect of my life.
In conclusion, my relationship with Jesus has been a profound influence on my faith and serves as my guiding principle in life. As I embark on my educational journey, I am confident that this faith will remain a significant part of who I am, continually guiding me to grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually. This faith, grounded in the teachings of Jesus, will be an unwavering beacon that will light my path as I navigate through life.
