Teaching has helped me in so many different ways, I just want to give the help I got when I needed it the most. When I was a kid, I didn’t have many friends and my parents didn’t really want anything to do with me either. I just went to school and wanted to be submerged in the teaching lessons and not have to think about anything else. A few of my teachers had noticed that I loved school and asked what I wanted to do when I grew up, and I would always say “I want to teach. I want to be the safe space for other people when things might not be going that great everywhere else.” School has always been a rock in my crazy life and I love to help other students try and understand the material. I used to always teach and help homeschool my nieces and nephews when they were all younger and they all have some sort of dyslexia or other learning disability so they all have different ways of learning. Kids have always been apart of my life and teaching is something I want to make sure is always in my life. Teaching and teachers all help influence children into who they become and if the children have some bad teachers that possibly have anger issues or another thing similar, those kids might think “oh it’s okay to do that kind of thing then.” The teachers that I mentioned earlier all would ask each and every one of their students if they were doing okay and double check if they had a place to stay after school, even if that meant they had to stay after and help them out. I was always one of those kids who stayed after school because I couldn’t go to an after school club, my sister was still in school for another 2 hours and I just couldn’t go anywhere without feeling sad and lonely. They helped me so much when I was going through all of that along with my family being broken, they were my new, hardworking, best friends I could ever have. The opportunity for me to make that big of an impact on someone else’s life, or even thinking about it, is break taking and something I really do want to experience for myself. If I didn’t get that help from them when I was in those classrooms, I’m not sure where I would fully be now, I don’t know what I would have done without them. This is why I want to become a teacher, so I can help others the way they helped me.
