Or was I created to wrap myself in blankets and keep warm?” Then, like the voice inside answers, “But this is more pleasant.” and it keeps going, “Were you then born for pleasure all for feeling, not for action? ” And honestly, this whole idea, The Mandate of Action, it reads like a quiet argument about purpose and duty, especially in Book 5 of Meditations, where Marcus Aurelius puts a kind of talk, between the self and the soul, out in the open, not just some simple morning routine. On the surface it looks like he’s fighting laziness, but when you read it close, the point turns into something heavier: human life is not really measured by how comfy your circumstances are, it’s measured by the intentionality behind what you contribute. Aurelius seems to say that our “nature” is tied to social and professional labor, and that choosing comfort over responsibility is basically a rejection of your own humanity. I didn’t notice it at first, but this has been, like, the silent engine for my educational path too. It’s been pushing me to pursue excellence at Tahoma High School and then at Green River College, and now, as I transition to the University of Washington Tacoma, it still feels like the same question is following me around. Aurelius sets it up fast, almost like a strict fork: “human being’s work” versus “blankets. ” The blankets, to me, feel like that closed internal world, the place where you’re safe, warm, and somehow everything stays at zero impact. During my move from Tahoma High School to UW Tacoma, I ran into moments where “ feeling ” could have dragged my standards down. But high-level academics, they don’t care what’s comfortable, they demand the rejection of the “ pleasant ” route in favor of the meaningful one. My Honors designation at Tahoma wasn’t just me chasing enjoyment. It came from choosing “ action. ” Underneath, Aurelius is saying that a person’s value shows up in output and fidelity to duty. So when I choose the “ human being’s work ” of scholarship, I feel like I’m not just studying, I’m actually fulfilling my nature as a learner, and as someone trying to become a future leader in my community. By keeping a high GPA and pursuing a university path, I’m paying that debt. I’m choosing the “action ” of a meaningful career over the “feeling ” of temporary ease. Growing up, I did not serve in the military myself, but I have come to understand the impact of service-related PTSD through my interactions with veterans in my community. Their stories and personal experiences have transformed my understanding of resilience and strength and the covert difficulties that numerous individuals bear throughout their daily lives. Before, I associated strength mostly with physical endurance or discipline, but through veterans, I learned that true strength often comes from continuing to move forward despite internal struggles that others may not see. I have learned that the crucial lesson about PTSD shows that it does not indicate personal weakness. Many veterans return home after serving their country and face challenges that are difficult to explain to others. They may struggle with anxiety, memories, or adjusting back to everyday life. The recognition has increased my understanding that I need to practice patience and empathy while maintaining back to everyday life for my own personal development. I have learned that sometimes the most meaningful support is listening without judgment and showing respect for what someone has been through. As a student, I try to support veterans in ways that are accessible to me. I need to practice respectful behavior toward veterans through understanding their needs while I work to develop my knowledge about PTSD and mental health. The process of raising awareness has value according to my understanding. When people understand what veterans go through, it reduces stigma and encourages more open conversations. People can create positive effects by performing simple tasks, which include showing appreciation for their service and recognizing their experiences. I want to enhance my future activities by dedicating myself to help veterans through direct involvement with support initiatives. Veterans who need help to transition back to civilian life can receive assistance through my volunteer work with organizations that help their transition process and through my support of mental health programs and my participation in community events to raise awareness about PTSD. I want to create a space where veterans receive recognition, comprehension, and companionship instead of feeling excluded. I want to use my education to advocate for the development of improved resources and support systems which will benefit veterans. I want to ensure that all veterans who served their country receive the necessary medical treatment along with appropriate respect through my community work and my professional career. His work includes increasing mental health awareness while creating policies that enable veterans to access help without facing social discrimination. My experiences have shown me that veteran support requires more than service acknowledgment since it demands services which help them overcome their challenges during their transition from military life. It does not add up for any other bearing on the origin of my interest in environmental sustainability than that I grew up with the natural landscape of Washington and saw firsthand the impacts of human activities on forests, water, and wildlife. Being in nature made me realize how closely intertwined our quality of living is with the health of our environment. Gradually, that awareness developed into a desire to preserve those spaces and species that future generations depend on. At Green River College, I see people focusing on protecting the environment and having some environmental clubs. I am deeply fascinated by the idea that sustainable practices may balance human needs for environmental protection into perpetuity. With the knowledge I gain from my studies, I aim to become an informed agent of change whose technical skills and ethical reputation are built upon the protection of ecosystems rather than their detriment. For me I became very interested in history, cultural anthropology, political science and geography when I was in middle school back in mid-2020 during the covid-19 lockdown. It started off as me going onto Wikipedia because I never tried it before until I came across this article that really changed my life. The article is called List of wars between 1945-89 and when I looked at the wars, I was shocked, confused and very interested about this because at that time I didn't understand the concept of proxy warfare in the cold war. That was the beginning of me learning history, cultural anthropology, political science and geography. Since than from 2020 to now I have learned so much of history, cultural anthropology, political science and geography. I first learned mainly the cold war and American history, but I evolved myself into now learning all periods of history from prehistorical period to modern periods now like Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Seljuks, Abbasids, Empire of Trebizond, Crusades, Cold War, and various more that I know. I also expanded my learnings into learning cultural anthropology of ethnicity, linguistics, religions and etc since history and political science pave me the way for learning cultural anthropology and how it shaped history and politics and culture. As for geography its the same thing as for cultural anthropology, it's mainly due to me learning history which makes me expand my knowledge on geography and me learning how geography has changed overtime. So that was my background now I want to tell you how I can plan to make a difference based on my knowledge that I know and my passion since mid-2020. The first plan I will do is is to pursue formal education in fields related to history, geography, and political science so I can strengthen my analytical skills. While much of my learning so far has been self-directed, I want academic training that allows me to research responsibly, evaluate sources critically, and connect historical patterns to modern global issues. This foundation will help me turn curiosity into meaningful understanding. My second plan is to apply historical and geographic knowledge to modern social and political problems. When I was little one of my relatives back in 2014 had cancer, it was my grandmother. I first heard it when my father and mother started crying over this, again when I heard them crying I came downstairs and see them really upset about this, I asked them what happened and what's going on in a confusing ans worrying manner, and they said my grandmother has cancer which absolutely hit me down to the core. I was absolutely devastated and horrified because cancer is not a thing to cure. I was now them crying in grief because of this. I remember crying for like a few hours because of this when I heard the story, it was really sad and really heartbreaking. As I went to school I could not stop thinking about cancer all the time. So I decided to do some research more about cancer and when I heard about this it made me even more devastating of what it actually is and what it does to a human. As I came back home from school I was still very scared and crying about this, then my mother told me that everything is gonna be fine but I disagree about that explaining what it is bases om the reasearch I did when I was in school and then my father said yeah it is true but your grandmother will make it my father said. I still didn't believe them but later after a few days of this I receive the news from my parents that my grandmother is slowly recovering from cancer and I was absolutely so happy because of this. I just cried a bit because of how much happiness I had when I heard the news about it. That's was the experience I had when it comes to cancer of one of my relatives. So what I learned about it is cancer is a terrible disease that is not cured for humans and is consider a threat for human life. You can not cure it so the best hopes is to treat it and pray you don't die from it. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of people died from cancer every year because of this, but there is still hope for people that are still fighting against cancer and you are not alone in this for those who do have cancer. This scholarship would help me based on the experience I had when I first heard cancer of how bad it is when it hit my grandmother, so with that I would like to thank you guys for reading my story and my experience I had when I was little.

As I transition to Green River College to continue my education through the transfer degree pathway, I look back at the last few years of my life with pride for the challenges I faced and the growth I achieved. Throughout the early 2020s, I participated in three sports that shaped me mentally and physically swimming, cross country (XC), and track. Swimming taught me discipline and consistency. Later on, I joined XC and track in 2024, where I developed new levels of mental toughness and embraced the strength that comes from being part of a team. Outside of school and sports, I volunteered at a local elk farm for ten hours, helping with animal care and basic operations. Hello my name is Baha Abukhater and let me tell you about my essay story. I have a passion for civil aviation when I was little and I want to become an aerospace engineer, for all my life I have been dreaming of being an aerospace engineer and I wanted to make that happen and here is why. The first example is when I took aerospace manufacturing and engineering class in 2023 for summer class my teacher Mr Buck gave me and my team an assignment on making a space shuttle. But in the first few days we had to learn how to build and 3d print new things which I became good at. The after this for the next 2 in the half weeks we made the space shuttle using my skills in this class and after a while of hard work we finally made the space shuttle project, it was hard but we succeeded with not just my skills individually but also working together as a team. That was for example number one. My second example is when I took this class officially in fall of 2023 in the puget sound skills center in Washington. For the first semester I learned new things now on how to build with new tools, new models and new designs, but I was stressed on several occasions when it comes to making 3d models and designs. But after sometime I finally got used to this new technology of autocad and printing something. In the second semester of Puget sound skills center in aerospace engineering class I finally was able to master it and I started sometimes creating my own stuff like creating a jetliner airplane for example. Not to mention I also began to help other people mostly in Autocad on 3d printing, for example I help one student who is struggling on the fidget spinner and I had to explain that do this and not what the tutorial saids because they had a different version of Autocad and they agreed. Also I was able to build some pieces and areas for the humble telescope like one of the satellite area. That for the second example. When it comes to financing I am unsure about my future. The reason why is because it depends on the US economy, what state I am living in or the university I am living in, or how I use my FAFSA aid depends on my future. My first educational goal is I am gonna graduate high school in 2025 by finishing political science class in Green River because I am currently a running start student and my counselor wants me to require to do political science class because it's for my graduation. The next step is what's I am done with high school I am gonna go to green river and I am gonna spent the remaining year doing green river college in four quarters summer, fall, winter, and spring. During this I will take engineering classes and a few algebra classes between summer to spring of 2026 quarters. Once I am done and I graduated from green river community college in the spring of 2026 I will transfer the degree of Asociates transfer degree to University of Washington in any campus likes Tacoma or Seattle for example if I can and then I will complete the four year long transition of university of Washington to get the associate degree of becoming an aerospace engineer or something related to aviation because first of all I have a passion of aviation mainly civil aviation, second is when I was in junior year I earned the most improved award for my skills in aerospace manufacturing and engineering class in puget sound skills center. I will work really hard academically for the next four years learning new and improving algebra skills, new tools I can use, technological skills, improving communication skills, improving problem solving skills, and many more. After four years of learning academically I will then graduate from university of Washington in the year 2031 and then I will use my academically skills to get a job in the aviation industry. That is how I will take my steps towards from graduating from high school to graduating from university of Washington in 2031. It is long term but I know I can succeed this.
