Bio
Hello! ππ½ My name is Ayreon Johnson, 18 yr old Afro-Native American girl from Westside Atlanta who is eagerly anticipating the arrival of attending college as a current highschool senior. Iβve started on my art journey since I was 3 years old, practicing independently and professionally for many more in hopes of creating a better world for my friends, family, or whoever else my work brings joy too. Despite my age, I know itβs never too early or too late to make a change or start something new! I plan to do just that as I grow as a person and student.

All my life, I have been asked the familiar question: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" What began as a simple dream of seeing my paintings in museums has grown into a mission to create art that inspires, heals, and connects. My vision is to reimagine the film industry's impact-using my work to tell stories that uplift communities and spark change.
As a child in Westside Atlanta, I wanted to be like my art teacher, creating pieces that captured imaginations. Over time, I discovered an even greater calling: to bring inspiring moving illustrations to life. While I often found joy in the small details of everyday life, I learned many of my peers struggled with anxiety, depression, bullying, and isolation. I used the encouragement l'd absorbed from cartoons and art to lift their spirits, until one day I realized-I could create my own work to guide youth toward emotional intelligence, resilience, and connection.
For six years, I worked tirelessly on a comic series infused with life lessons, wisdom, and vibrant storytelling. Along the way, I learned from institutions and mentors such as SCAD's Summer Seminar, ZuCot Art Gallery's internship, and renowned artists Eric Mack and Will O'Donnell. These experiences cemented my dream of becoming an Artistic Director-using quality entertainment to bring joy and hope to audiences worldwide. With a bachelor's degree in fine and studio arts and a minor in film and media studies, I will take my first step into the industry. Beyond my career, I plan to mentor aspiring artists, support charities, and lead community art initiatives. As a woman of color, I hope my journey shows that with vision and perseverance, we can create beauty, foster unity, and inspire the next generation to dream boldly.

Over the course of my life, I have been constantly berated with the question, βWhat do you want to be when you grow up?β or βWhat do you want to do with your life?β. As
I live, learn, and grow through many of lifeβs challenges, this question has alongside me. What started as just a simple pipe dream of artistic achievements displayed in museums, has developed into a vision of greater impact on the world through the reanimation of the film industry on my
life. By pursuing a higher educational prowess, providing for my community, and accomplishing
new heights, I hope to make this vision bloom into fruition with the aid of those who are willing to invest in this bright future.
Originally, my childhood dream was to be like my art teacher, creating masterful pieces for people to ponder, but now my dream is to create inspiring moving illustrations for the world to witness. However, as I blossomed into the young woman I am today, I noticed all the disheartening encounters of the world around me. Despite my own background from Westside Atlanta
kid, I valued life with high appreciation, often asked why I was always happy. However, I was shocked to hear that other kids were unable to see the beauty in the mundane like I had, until I
heard out their stories. Issues like anxiety, depression, bullying, insecurity and social ostracizing
were highly prevalent, despite our young age. Often, I would uplift my peers with encouragement I learned from cartoons and artwork to make them smile, until it hit me. I could make my own cartoon, one that guides the youth to cultivate strong minds and bonds with one another,
motivating them to improve their lives through the importance of emotional intelligence. For 6 years I worked hard to develop my own comic, adding life lessons and wisdom I learned along the way. Tirelessly, I worked on my craft, connecting with respectable artistic figureheads and
institutions, such as SCAD's Summer Seminar, ZuCot Art Gallery's summer internship, and studying under Eric Mack, Will O'Donnell, and many more informative endeavors. Throughout
this journey of self-discovery, I have found that my occupational dream is to become an Artistic Director, making an impact by providing quality entertainment services worldwide and giving joy and hope to those who need it most.
Through the pursuit of a bachelorβs degree in fine and studio arts and a minor of film and media studies, I intend to make my first step into the film industry and accept artistic projects to improve the state of our community with the use of vibrant colors. I yearn to give back to the community by donating to charities, taking in understudies or interns and volunteering at community art initiatives. I dream of writing meaningful literature one day, with themes of key concepts like character design, poetry and creative writing to provide education to those who hope to start their own creative projects. Through carrying this torch, I as a woman color, I hope to leave a legacy of change and succession for girls like me in my community, so
they too can use hard work and a vision to bring positive change in the world.

It was a warm spring afternoon, and the air carried the scent of fresh grass and blooming flowers. I was around seven years old, nearing the end of second grade. The sunlight streamed through the windows of the art room as I sat intently listening to my teacher, Mr. Mack, a towering man with waist-length locs that swayed gently like willow branches and a beard as soft and sprawling as moss. He wore brown Timberlands and a green puff jacket over striped orange and yellow sleeves that peeked out like bursts of paint. It was my favorite part of the day--until my mother walked into the room, confusion written across her face. "Strange how my daughter keeps ending up in here," she said, arms crossed. I looked away, sheepish but resolute. I was supposed to be at dance class, but once again, I'd found my way back to the art room. "I don't like dancing," I muttered defiantly. "I want to be in the art club with Mr. Mack!" He chuckled, approaching with a kind smile. "It's my fault, Ms. Johnson. She had me convinced you sent her. She's got a keen eye--really excels artistically for her age. In fact" He reached into his coat and pulled out a folded flyer, crisp and colorful. "There's this opportunity--it's not much, but it might be worth the investment." My mother's eyes scanned the page, her expression softening with each sentence. A spark of understanding lit in her eyes. "Yeah, sure," she said. "We'll do it!β
Weeks later, we drove down a lightly wooded road, the tires crunching against gravel. An open gate greeted us ahead, leading to a large building tucked behind the trees. To the side, I spotted a faded
blue park--solitary, quiet. "Mommy, can we go there after this?" I asked, tugging at my seatbelt. "Sure thing," she smiled. "Let's just get through this interview first." I huffed dramatically, scribbling loops around the gingerbread man I had drawn on the back of an old paper. "What's this even for? I'm just a kid." She chuckled, squeezing my hand as we stepped out of the car. I clung to her side, ascending the gray stone steps of a rather lifeless school building. The atmosphere felt washed out, drained of color. "This place could use a splash of paint," I whispered under my breath. Inside, my feet tapped against ceramic tiles as I stared up at the academic posters crowding the walls. But as we entered the designated room, my heart lit up--there were my friends! Emilio, with
his buzz-cut fade and slouchy gray pants, flashing his signature gapped grin. And Tiana, a bubbly girl with bright pigtails, gold hoops, and a twirl-ready pleated skirt. We were all dressed in green polos, our badge of honor for advancing to second grade.
"Ah, Ms. Johnson, welcome," said the program leader. "We were just about to get started. Please grab a pencil and join us." We were introduced to the Jesse Owens mural project at KIPP Collegiate. Our job? To brainstorm values, passions, virtues, and community strengths that would help inspire the mural's design. We
poured our hearts into it--every sketch, every word, every color swatch represented a piece of
ourselves. As we brainstormed below, our teacher painted above us, bringing our dreams to life
stroke by stroke.
Weeks passed like petals on the wind. One afternoon, Mr. Mack asked us to dress up. "Fancy clothes, everyone," he said with a grin. "We're going somewhere special." Our work had not gone unnoticed. We were invited to attend the premiere of the Jesse Owens biopic--a powerful film chronicling his journey from humble beginnings to Olympic glory, and how he defied racial prejudice on the world stage. Watching it as a young Black girl, I felt stirred in a way I hadn't known before. I saw myself in his determination, in his resistance, in his triumph. I realized that greatness didn't just belong in history books or on screen--it could live in me too. On the day of the mural's unveiling, excitement buzzed through the air like bees in spring bloom. "Ayreon! The news people are gonna be here!" Tiana squealed, nearly bouncing out of her Mary Janes. "Wait!" I shouted. "I want to add something!" Mr. Mack turned, eyebrows raised. "What do you want to add?" I thought for a moment. Then, clear as day, the image popped into my mind. "The Gingerbread Man!" And so, we added one last whimsical touch--a tribute to my childhood drawing that had started it all. Just in time, the news truck pulled up, cameras flashing. I answered questions, smiled wide, and finally--scissors in hand--cut the red ribbon that opened our mural to the world. As the sun reflected off the golden blades, I felt something deep awaken within me. This was who I was meant to be.
From that moment on, art was no longer a hobby--it was my calling. I dove into every form I could find: sculpting, sketching, digital illustration, fashion design, photography, and animation. I started
reaching out to programs and professionals, forming bonds with places like SCAD and college
mentors. Each connection, each experience, added another hue to my growing palette. That mural was more than a school project--it was a declaration. A visual symphony composed by the hands of curious children and guided by the heart of a compassionate teacher. It taught me that art is about community. That creativity can uplift, inform, and transform, where even the smallest
voices can leave the loudest echoes.
As a blossoming creator in the film and fine arts industry, I continue to explore the intersections of identity, memory, and storytelling. As an Afro-Native American artist, I'm drawn to how personal and cultural histories can be preserved and reimagined through artistic expression. I often blend photography, found materials, and hand-drawn animation to challenge static narratives and awaken ancestral memory. My process is both intuitive and research-based, rooted in the old and reaching into the new--where digital meets handmade, and reality meets imagination. Ultimately, I aim to craft work that doesn't just sit on a wall or screen, but lives in the hearts of those who witness it. I want my art to reclaim forgotten stories, highlight unseen beauty, and spark a sense
of connection and emotional truth. Because I believe that art isn't just about making something-- it's
about making meaning, which Iβve been doing ever since the day I chose art club over dance.

I could make my own cartoon, one that guides the youth to cultivate strong minds and bonds with one another, motivating them to improve their lives through the importance of emotional intelligence. For 6 years I worked hard to develop my own comic, adding life lessons and wisdom I learned along the way. Throughout this journey of self-discovery, I have found that my occupational dream is to become an Artistic Director, making an impact by providing quality entertainment services worldwide and giving joy and hope to those who need it most.
My positivity pivoted my life for the better, leading me towards a pursuit of a bachelorβs degree in film and media studies and a minor of fine and studio arts. I intend to make my first step into the film industry and accept artistic projects to improve the state of our community with the use of vibrant colors, giving back to the community by donating to charities, taking in understudies or interns and volunteering at community art initiatives. I also dream of writing meaningful literature and books about key concepts like character design, poetry and creative writing to provide education to those who hope to start their own creative projects. Through carrying this torch, I as a woman of color, hope to leave a legacy of change and succession for girls like me in my community, so they too can use hard work and a vision to bring positive change in the world.

As I live, learn, and grow through many of lifeβs challenges, this question has grown along with me. What started as just a pipe dream of artistic achievements displayed in museums, has developed into a vision of greater impact on the world through the reanimation of the film industry on my life. Originally, my childhood dream was to be like my art teacher, creating masterful pieces for people to ponder, but now my dream is to create inspiring moving illustrations for the world to witness. However, as I blossomed into the young woman, I am today I noticed all the dark woes of the world around me. Despite my own past and background as a Westside Atlanta kid, I valued life with high appreciation, often asked why I was always happy. Of course, there were many life-altering trivial moments in my life that cause me disdain. Nonetheless, I relied on the everlasting support and love of my grandmothers, family and friends to uplift me on days i could not hold my own. However, I was shocked to hear that other kids were unable to see the beauty in the mundane like I had, until I heard out their stories. Diane Amendt Memorial Scholarship for the Arts
It was a warm spring afternoon, I was roughly seven years old, concentrating intently to my teacher, when my mother abruptly arrived. βStrange, she keeps ending up in
here everyday.β I turned sheepishly, lacking attendance at my dance class, I rebutted βI donβt like dancing; I want to be in the art club!β Amused by my reply, he began to explain, βItβs my fault, she had me convinced you gave her permission. She's got a keen eye for visual arts, despite her ageβ¦ in fact, may I suggest this?β He gently unfolded a flyer. βIt isn't much, but it's definitely a worthy opportunity?β My mom scanned through the paper, eyes lightening with each
sentence. βSure! Weβll do it!β
Weeks later, we drove down a wooded road, towards a high school. I glanced out to blue park, pleading. βMommy, can we go there after this?β, βWe just need to get through this first, ok?β An aggravated sigh escaped me, as she smiled lightly. βCheer up, it'll be funβ. As I scaled the desaturated stone steps, humming the tune of βThe Gingerbread Manβ, I began taking mental notes of the dreary atmosphere. Finally, we arrived, as my face brightened with joy! My friends were here! Emilio and Tiana, both 2nd grade students at KIPP like me! βAh, Ms. Johnson! We were just about to get started, please have a seat, grab a paper and pencil and weβll begin.β The presenter explained that we would be participating in the creation of the Jesse Owes mural for KIPP Collegiate. We each applied our ideas, values, strengths, weaknesses, any topic of passion to aid our teacher create this masterpiece. After a while, we left the
room, conversing about the possible outcomes. βI wonder what will be on the final design βEmilio said
curiously, tapping his feet with his hands in his pocket, βI hope it has some bits of pink!β Tiana said,
daydreaming about the possibilities. The experience was unimaginable to say the least, I aided preparation of a mural teacher was proposed to create, adding piece by piece to our creation every day. While we worked on our colorful pieces below, our teacher worked on the masterpiece above us.
In a matter of weeks, Mr. Mack reached out to us, advising us to wear fancy clothing. Our efforts werenβt unseen, for we were invited to witness the newly produced Jesse Owens Movie commemorating what we made. The movie focused on the beginning and end of his life, from him working hard as a young track star, to being the first black Olympic track winner. It was inspiring for me as young black girl, leaving me curious about what I too, could achieve. Time flew by, as we reached our destination. βAyreon! The News people will be here soon!β Tiana yelped, bouncing with joy, βWait! I wanna add something!β Mr. Mack stood there perplexed, βWell, what do you wanna add?β I pondered until suddenly, a cloud of thought drifted in my mind. βI wanna add the Gingerbread man!β We painted it, moments before the News truck pulled in. I came, I asked, I answered, and finally cut the red ribbon to our dashing new display. The golden scissors shimmered brightly in the sun, as a new doorway of opportunity was engraved into my future. From that day forward, I understood what I wanted to do in my life, and that was art. I tried all forms, fashion, sculpting, sketching, animating and many more. I researched and connected with individuals like the people at SCAD and other colleges, embarking on the blossoming of my artistic journey.

I also want to give back to the community by donating to charities, taking in understudies or interns and volunteering at community art initiatives. I want to write meaningful literature and books about key concepts like character design, poetry and creative writing to provide education to those who hope to start their own creative projects. However, I cannot do this journey alone, with the aid of my family, friends, teachers, the people of my community and hopefully you, I appeal to you to take the time to invest in this dream I hope to bring towards the light. Through carrying this torch, I as a woman of color, desire nothing else but to leave a legacy of change and succession for young women like me in my community, so they too can use hard work and a vision to bring positive change in the world.

Over the course of my life, I have been constantly berated with the question, βWhat do you wanna be when you grow up?β or βWhat do you want to do with your life?β. As I live, learn, and grow through lifeβs challenges, this question has grown along with me. What started as just a pipe dream of artistic achievements displayed in museums, has developed into a vision of greater impact on the world through the reanimation of the film industry on my life. By pursuing higher educational prowess, providing for my community, and accomplishing new heights, I hope to make this vision bloom into full fruition with the aid of those who are willing to invest in this bright future.
Originally, my childhood dream was to be like my art teacher, creating masterful pieces for people to ponder, but now my dream is to create inspiring moving illustrations for the world to witness. However, as I blossomed into the young woman I am today I noticed all the dark woes of the world around me. Despite my own background from Westside Atlanta kid, I valued life with high appreciation, often asked why I was always happy. However, I was shocking to hear that other kids were unable to see the beauty in the mundane like I had, until I heard out their stories. Issues like anxiety, depression, bullying, insecurity and social ostracizing were highly prevalent, despite our young age. Often, I would uplift my peers with encouragement I learned from cartoons and artwork to make them smile, until it hit me.
