True change begins with service, and service begins with compassion. That belief has guided everything I do, from volunteering in my community to shaping my future career goals. If given the opportunity, I would work to improve my community by expanding access to essential resources while also providing education in digital safety. I want to help people meet both their immediate needs and the long-term challenges of navigating an increasingly digital world.
Through my volunteer work, I have witnessed the difficulties that many families face every day. Distributing food and diapers to families in need, preparing boxes of food to send abroad to countries facing food insecurity, and delivering meals to a local shelter for women and children have all shown me the impact of service. These experiences have taught me the importance of empathy, patience, and organization. They have also reinforced my belief that consistent, thoughtful actions can create meaningful change. Seeing the relief and gratitude of those I help motivates me to continue finding ways to make a positive difference.
In addition to hands-on service, I am passionate about using my future career in Cyber-Security and Digital Forensics to provide lasting benefits to my community. Many people are unaware of the risks they face online, from identity theft to cybercrime, which can have serious consequences. By offering workshops and educational programs on digital safety, I hope to empower individuals and families to protect themselves, their information, and their digital identities. I want to give people the knowledge and tools to feel secure in both their physical and digital lives.
My leadership experience as a Union Leader in high school further prepared me to serve my community in meaningful ways. Leading group sessions, mentoring younger classmates, and encouraging collaboration taught me how to guide others, inspire confidence, and work as part of a team. These skills are essential when addressing both real-world and digital challenges, and they have strengthened my ability to take initiative and solve problems effectively.
Improving my community is not just a goal, it is a responsibility that I take seriously. Through a combination of hands-on service and technology-driven education, I aim to create a safer, more supportive, and empowered community. I want every individual to have access to the resources, guidance, and knowledge they need to thrive. Serving my community has shown me the profound difference one person can make, and I am committed to continuing this work through both volunteer efforts and my future career in cybersecurity and digital forensics.

Gloria Millender "I am 3rd" - J. O. Y. Scholarship
My life is grounded in the J.O.Y. principle—putting Jesus first, others second, and myself third. This mindset guides how I lead, serve, and pursue my goals.
Stepping into leadership as a Union Leader this year has been a meaningful journey. I see it not just as a title, but as a calling to lead with humility, to serve my classmates with compassion, and to mentor others not only academically but also spiritually. I’m honored to walk alongside students in their high school journeys, offering encouragement and faith-based support.
My passion is helping people, and I express that through acts of service. At my church, I assist in distributing food and diapers to families in need. The joy I feel seeing a parent leave knowing their family will eat tonight is indescribable. I make sure every person I meet knows they are seen, valued, and respected. I also help prepare and deliver meals to a shelter for women and children affected by domestic violence. And when I see someone on the street asking for help, I give what I can, not because I know their story, but because I choose grace over judgment. I remind myself that it could easily be me or someone I love in that position. My hope is that someone would show them the same kindness.
My relationship with Christ shapes every part of who I am. Faith is my foundation, giving me strength, purpose, and direction. I believe with God, all things are possible but we must prepare, do the work, and persevere. I live with the mindset that failure is not final; it’s simply a step in the journey to growth. I don’t fear falling short, because I know I serve a God who lifts me up and sets me back on course.
Putting Jesus first keeps my heart grounded. Serving others keeps my life meaningful. And putting myself third gives me clarity and peace, but because I know I’m walking in love, purpose, and humility.

To be purposeful, responsible, and productive as a community member means striving to make a positive impact and living with intention in everything I do. It’s about setting meaningful goals, staying focused, and doing my best as a student, a young adult, and a Christian. These values are important to me because they guide how I show up in my school, my church, and my community.
Each day, I begin with a plan and clear goals to accomplish. I listen to encouraging messages to stay motivated and focused on achieving good grades, being a dependable Union Leader, and staying out of trouble. I take my academic responsibilities seriously. If I miss class due to illness or sports, I contact my teachers right away and make sure my assignments are turned in on time. I value good relationships with my teachers and believe being proactive shows respect and maturity.
Responsibility is something that was taught to me early. My mom made it clear that I was in charge of completing my homework and chores—I wasn’t supposed to wait for reminders. That mindset has helped me become a responsible young man who understands the importance of taking initiative. Whether it’s schoolwork or helping around the house, I know what needs to be done and make sure it gets done.
As a Union Leader in high school, I’ve had the opportunity to lead various activities during student retreats and Mass services. I take pride in fulfilling my duties well and always offer support to fellow Union Leaders when needed. Leadership has taught me the importance of being dependable, encouraging others, and working as part of a team.
Last summer, I worked my first job as a full-time Summer Camp Counselor. I was responsible for 10 to 15 kindergarten and first-grade students every day. I made it a point to arrive on time, stay focused, and sometimes even stay late to support the afternoon team. That job taught me what it means to be responsible for others, not just myself. I built relationships with the kids, developed patience and empathy, and realized how rewarding it is to make a positive impact on others’ lives. I’ll be returning this summer, and I look forward to building on that experience.
Throughout middle and high school, I’ve stayed active in sports, volunteered at church, and participated in school service activities. These experiences helped me develop time management and productivity skills. Balancing academics with extracurriculars hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned how to prioritize my responsibilities and stay committed. These lessons have shaped who I am and will continue to guide me in the future.
Looking ahead, I plan to carry these values with me into college and beyond. I’ll stay focused on my goals, be intentional about my actions, and remain grounded in the principles that have helped me succeed so far. I will continue to grow as a leader, serve my community, and seek opportunities to be impactful. I’ll also keep my faith strong, knowing that with God’s help, I can handle whatever challenges come my way.
I believe that being purposeful, responsible, and productive is not just about what you do,it’s about who you choose to be every day. I’m excited for what lies ahead and committed to making the next chapter of my life just as meaningful and fulfilling as the last.

Nickels Student Athlete Scholarship
One of the challenges I have experienced during my school career is trying to balance schoolwork and extracurricular activities. I have always enjoyed being social and participating in as much as I can. Engaging in various activities has allowed me to grow as a person and develop a diverse set of skills. I enjoy sports and have played basketball for my Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years. The sport has taught me the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication. Beyond athletics, I also spend time working in my church, where I distribute food and diapers to families who have experienced economic difficulties. This role is incredibly fulfilling; I enjoy being able to help others, and it makes me happy to see their faces light up when they realize they have what they need to provide for their families. I cherish the moments spent communicating with them, learning their stories, and understanding their challenges. Playing Cross Country has also been a new and positive challenge in my Senior year. Practice was held every afternoon even after an actual Cross Country match. Making this commitment has given me a level of endurance and perseverance that I didn't even realize I had. I dug deep and made the sacrifice needed and it proved to be very fulfilling..
Participating in these activities is fun and rewarding, but there is a cost. While I thrive in these environments, there is still homework that is due and deadlines to meet. I work hard to ensure I’m completing my assignments early whenever possible, so I can fully engage in my extracurriculars without worrying about late nights of study. Even though there have been times when I didn’t manage to complete my work ahead of schedule, I’ve learned to dig deep and make the necessary adjustments to get everything done. When I know I have a game coming up or other commitments, I proactively communicate with my teachers, advocating for myself by requesting short extensions when needed. This approach has fostered positive relationships with my educators, who appreciate my transparency and responsibility. Most of the time, I focus on meeting my deadlines and accomplishing all that I set out to complete.
I take great pride in being a determined and disciplined student, understanding that these qualities will serve me well not just in school, but throughout my life. Balancing these various aspects has taught me invaluable lessons in time management and prioritization, skills that will be essential as I continue my academic journey.

I am a Senior at St. Vincent Pallotti High School, in Laurel, Maryland. I love my school and have enjoyed participating on the JV Basketball teams in my freshman and Sophomore years. I have also played AAU Basketball for the last four years. I enjoy team sports. The ability to work together to be our best is a great feeling. It wasn't always a perfect environment, but I tried to help my teammates not to point the finger after a loss, but figure out how we could do better the next time. I always tried to input my positive spin on a situation so that we could move forward with the best attitude and a clear mind.
I also participated in the school chorus and archeology club. Our local expeditions were interesting. It was great learning more about the history of the area where we live and attend school. Earlier this year, I became a Senior Union Leader. The opportunity to be a leader and to assist my peers has been life-changing. I realized that I did have something helpful I could share with my peers, and I had a chance to enhance my facilitation skills by leading small groups. My four years at Pallotti have been memorable and rewarding. I believe my time at Pallotti, and upbringing with my mom and grandma have prepared me for the next chapter in my life. I'm ready to secure the world!
Thank you. I appreciate your consideration.

Motivation is more than a passing feeling. It is the undeniable drive that pushes me toward success. My success, thus far, is influenced by the love of my family, the strength of my faith, and my resilience. I am inspired to push beyond limits, embrace challenges, and carve out my path to greatness!
My motivation comes from discipline and consistency, which better describes my approach to achieving goals. My mother, grandmother, and my father's support have shaped me into the person I am. Their encouragement in sports, academics, and life has instilled in me a deep sense of purpose and belief that, with determination and faith in Christ, I can achieve anything I set my mind to.
I desire to work in the IT and Cybersecurity field. I want to protect people from those who aim to deceive and act maliciously. I want the internet and our networks to be safe for everyone. My goal is to stop those who seek to do damage to our children, our military, our banks, and our day-to-day lives by hacking our computer systems and safety.
I genuinely envision myself achieving my goals. Stepping up this year to become a Union Leader has been a great leadership experience. I appreciate the opportunity to lead my fellow seniors and some underclassmen. This role allows me to lead and be called upon to help them if they should need assistance.
My passion is to help people. I work in my church distributing food and diapers to families in need. It's a rewarding feeling to see a parent walk away from the distribution area, knowing there is food on the table to feed their families. I speak to them and ensure they know they are important and respected. I also assist in cooking and delivering food to a shelter for women and children of domestic abuse. I don't always get to see the families, but knowing that I am assisting those who normally prepare the food, with one less thing to do, makes me happy. Again, the joy I receive seeing people receiving a break and getting the assistance they need is rewarding. If I see someone on the street and they are asking for funds, If I have it, I will give it to them. Some might say, "You don't know what they are doing with that money!" I respond, "It's not for me to judge. I recognize that at any time, it could be me or my family member who needs help I hope someone would be kind to them.
My relationship with Christ has shaped my perspective on life. My faith has brought me abundant support and a deep sense of purpose and belonging. I know that anything is possible, but you have to be willing to prepare yourself, do the work, and never give up. I firmly believe that anything worth having is worth fighting for. I can do anything but fail. And even if I fail in an area, I remember it is not a setback but an opportunity to learn, grow, and rise to meet the task.
Looking ahead, I am eager to pursue my educational goals and positively impact the world. I am committed to paying it forward by helping others who follow in my footsteps, leading with the same positivity I have received my entire life. Thank you for considering my application.
Jorian Kuran Harris (Shugg) Helping Heart Foundation Scholarship
Can you imagine a world where every click online is secure, and every action is safe from hackers? I aspire to be a catalyst for ensuring the safety of our systems. I want to design and enforce those methods that help to reduce the affects of hackers who attempt to do harm to our infrastructure and our country. I will learn to fight those international threats as well as domestic threats .My goal is to learn everything I can about cybersecurity, particularly in digital forensics and information security, as these fields challenge my critical thinking skills.
Last Summer, I completed a one-week Cybersecurity Internship in the Leadership Initiatives Program, at Georgetown University. It was a priceless experience. I collaborated with peers from across the country on a capstone project to develop a security plan for a new green energy company. Initially, this was an intimidating task, but our motivation to tackle our mission, allowed us to roll up our sleeves and dig into our project. We quickly developed relationships and a sense of trust in our group. Not only did we work together, we also took field trips to the Pentagon and the Department of Defense to learn more about the Government and the work they do around Security.
We worked on our project and came up with a security plan. After we presented our plan, the CEO accepted the plan and approved it. That was the most rewarding feeling ever. I learned so much in that one week. I anticipate creating more plans, and programs, to make our communities safer.
Currently, I am taking a Cybersecurity class at my high school. So far, I have an A in the class. I see this as only the beginning of what's to come for me. I am working diligently to do my very best in this class. I am enjoying the opportunity to learn about slight security, Cyber-security attacks and how to better secure your own systems at home, school and in the workplace. I am fascinated about Digital Forensics. I would like to take my knowledge into the Law Enforcement or the Federal Government. Perhaps, the Justice Department of the Defense Department one day. I look forward to digging deeper and truly finding my area of concentration.
My journey has been very fulfilling. However, it has not been without it's challenges. The art of balancing school work and extracurricular activities has posed significant challenges in my academic career. My enthusiasm for social involvement drives me to participate in a wide range of activities. I have played basketball, run Cross Country and actively participated in my church services distributing food and diapers to families in need. However, managing these commitments comes with its own set of challenges. The demands of schoolwork and looming deadlines require careful planning and proactiveness. To navigate this, I strive to complete assignments as early as possible to avoid late-night cramming before events or games. if there was an occasion when I couldn't finish an assignment ahead of time, I made necessary adjustments to meet deadlines or communicated with my teachers to request an extension. As I continue to explore my passion for cybersecurity, I remain committed to overcoming obstacles and contributing to a safer digital world.
