Good Afternoon. My name is Avery Miles, and I go to Chestnut Hill College, where I'm studying Computer Information Technology with a concentration in Software Development with a minor in Cybersecurity. I'm learning this field because when it comes to Cybersecurity, I see the danger when people hack into your account and steal prime information. For example, in the 2016 election between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump, how they attacked the people that were undecided and created false ads and propaganda to swing the votes to Donald Trump and help him win the election. As a person with Facebook, I'm cautious about what I post on my page after seeing how they used Facebook to swing the vote for Donald Trump to win the presidential election. When the CEO of Facebook/Meta, Mark Zuckerburg, was at the congress, he had to answer the question of how Facebook users' account was a break and account users used their privacy in the election. Mark couldn't respond then and blamed it on Cambridge Analytica. Mark says in the hearing that he was unaware that Cambridge Analytica claimed that they still had all the Facebook user's data when Cambridge Analytica told him that they had to delete all the accounts. Another reason I'm studying Software Development is cause I love how working on different program applications like NetBeans, Ruby on Rails, Eclipse, and Javascript and how all come together differently is very interesting. I love the challenge of bettering myself as and program developer. The problem we have in society is that people are unaware of the issues. The consequence of putting things online that hackers can use against you. Understanding the technology, in general, will be a complex task cause society doesn't want to take the time to learn it, or it's not essential at the moment. I feel that we should have a class in every school district where we, as computer majors, teach other people the good, bad, and the ugly behind using the computer. People don't know that companies and jobs are looking at your Facebook account, Instagram, and Twitter to see what type of person you are before they even consider hiring you. As something like you at the club, drinking sometimes can hurt you as a candidate for a position cause they think you will party and get drunk all the time and won't be able to do your job.
