What is the point of studying psychology? Isn't it just mental gymnastics? If anyone can do it, why should it be a career? This is the question my father has asked me for the last ten years, ever since I told him I wanted to work in the medical field like my mother. I've been shamed and ridiculed for something I believe is more important now than it has ever been. Growing up was never easy for anyone...especially with a father and mother who decided divorce was a good idea when their children were young...things have always seemed black and white and green. Green in the sense of as in money, this world is full of greed, pain, and money...child support doesn't make ends meet, child support isn't support, it isn't picnics, it isn't showing up for that last basketball game of the season. It's money sent via text once a month, no phone calls, no effort in seeing those children who have to grow up watching their mother struggle. They have to sit back and be yelled at because that money does not cover groceries, electric bills, or gas. It instills this fear, the fear of pursuing a degree that isn't guaranteed with such a small number of people in the social work fields; this fear devastates me because children now require therapists more than ever. We seem to have a school shooting every other week, the divorce rate has skyrocketed, and what are we to do but mock our children when they actively want to help society? Helping professions have never been viewed positively, and I know this better than many of my peers because I grew up with a mother in a helping profession, a teacher for the past 25 years. What I've seen and heard about the minds of tomorrow that she's been given the opportunity to teach. It is heartbreaking that these children should not only be safe in schools, but also have access to outside resources and affordable assistance. Despite the fact that it is a drop in the bucket, I would like to study psychology and become a psychotherapist in order to better this sickening world, There should never be parents who try to discourage their children from helping, but there are, and while completely cutting him off isn't a wise decision, it discourages me from working in this field; I want to help and pursue my passion without struggle.

Why are we disgusted by the fact that women throughout history have worked so hard to get to where they are today? The Oxford dictionary defines feminism as "the advocacy of women's rights based on gender equality." That sense of equality is extremely empowering, but in politics, many people look down on the concept of equality. We as a society have turned back the clock; this is not how we were meant to live! As a woman in an all-female household, I've only ever known my mother and sister. I can change my own lightbulb, make my own money, and provide for my family. Women these days tell me, "feminism is awful, because women just think they're better than men," which disgusts me because it's not true. Feminism means equality to me; no one is too weak to survive in this world, and no one should be treated differently because of their gender. It's empowering to know that I don't have to rely on a male figure for basic human needs; as a society, we've come a long way... However, I still believe that divide exists in schools. In the last two years, my peers and I have advocated for a much more open rule book, and those rules regarding our school's dress code, saying shoulders are proactive and distracting is disrespectful when there shoulders. Children mock and make fun of these, but this is a serious issue for women, who are defined by their figures and what they can and cannot wear due to their weight. However, since this is our only life, it shouldn't matter what women wear or weigh; I just want to live in a world in which it isn’t a second thought, not a whisper behind a hand or a finger pointing and laughing. Women bullying women has to end, we need to empower one another and end this cycle of men tearing women down and judging them for there weight or way they dress. feminism means equality, it will always mean equality we need to praise that word instead of fear it, we need to teach the future women of America about this powerful word. It is so important to remember that we are all humans, we all deal with grief and anger and breakup and happiness. Depending on who we are will determine how we handle said emotion's but it can be done, more recently mental health has been brought to light and I personally think as a society this is a huge deal; Mental health can be defined as: "a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being". It is important we talk about these thing's and not keep it bottled up inside, in today's modern era people are so obsessed with technology and how other people handle there daily lives, seeing people on trips to foreign country's or living lavishly may really stress others out. Personally I have just come back from what I thought was the worst dip in my mental health, June of 2021 was one of the hardest month's I had ever had to live through and constantly during it I really did question if it is worth it to be on this earth, it is so hard to sit back with all the stress COVID-19 brought me and watch others be so triumphant while I feel like as though I have fallen behind, and am not good enough for my friends. However with meditation and constant affirmation coming back from hard dip's in mental health can be done, there is hope and I believe in today's day and age school's should have more mental health awareness along with our society.

There is not a day that goes by, in which I do not think about the opportunity's in which I passed out on, due to doubt and fear of inner demons taking over, I fear on what I have missed out on and yet I still continue to not put in my all. Is this because of fear of failure? well I believe it is, My mission in life is to strive and yet at every corner I am bombarded with doubt and fear of not being good enough, whether it be with school grades or with my violin practice or simply painting a picture. I feel as though many of us fear that we will never be good enough but there is hope, there is a light at the end of the tunnel over quarantine I really did begin to try much harder and sure enough my grades began to skyrocket. My relationships began to get so much better, I became happier and my life seemed to utterly change for the better and all because of that determination and that strive to have goals. One thing leads to another, the the domino effect is a very real thing and it can be defined as a chain reaction is the cumulative effect produced when one event sets off a chain of similar events. This term is best known as a mechanical effect and is used as an analogy to a falling row of dominoes. I personally believe that striving for better grades or attempting to pull yourself out of this bottomless pit of fear and failure will set you up for complete and utter success, and letting those passions drive you.
