WinnerI first fell in love with musical theater when I was 9, performing in a unique rendition of Mr. Popper's Penguins with a local theater company in San Diego. From then on, I started taking classes specializing in voice and dance. When I start rehearsal processes for new shows, it is so exciting to start a new project that people want you to be a part of, especially meeting new people who help bring the story to life. This art form helped me develop strong community-building and communication skills, as well as being able to receive and interpret body language. My passion grew in high school when I started taking musical theatre-focused classes. At this point, I had already had a short film and a TV show under my belt, along with undiscovered talents like talking with my mouth closed (very interesting to listen to). Now, as a senior, I feel ready to make the next big step in my life to expand my education by doing something that I love. I chose a career in musical theater because I love storytelling and inspiring people to get involved in the arts, not for the fame but to make an impact on others and change someone's life.
I want to attend college to pursue a higher education in something I love: Musical Theatre, while also earning a minor in marketing and/or cultural Studies. I really enjoy being in the company of students who are willing to learn and are motivated to be the best that they can be while staying true to themselves. I would also love to create generational wealth for myself and those who come after me, so they can be set up for success and be free to do whatever they please without having to think about finances. Due to my cultural and family background, I've always been interested in attending college. I'm not a first-gen student, but I've been inspired by family members who have attended colleges, specifically Historically Black colleges and Universities, and have come out to be very successful because they knew what they wanted to do and did it. And I knew I could do just that. With this degree i hope to explore and be well-rounded in multiple art forms, like dancing, painting, and much more. In the end, it'll make little me very happy to know that I continued to pursue the arts because I put my mind to doing something that I love.
