Education became important to me long before I ever stepped into a classroom with a clear vision for my future. Growing up in a low income household, I learned how to work hard before I learned how to feel secure. Before I understood what stability meant, I understood responsibility. I knew what it felt like to pack belongings into boxes without knowing where we would go next. I understood the fear that comes with eviction notices, financial hardship, and uncertainty about the future.
Those experiences shaped me deeply. They taught me resilience, discipline, and perseverance, but they also showed me how important education truly is. To me, education represents opportunity, stability, independence, and the ability to build a future not defined by struggle. Education is more than earning a diploma or learning technical skills; it is a path toward transforming survival into success.
In the middle of uncertainty, I found something that grounded me: beauty.
Hair and cosmetics were never just hobbies or surface level interests. They became my sanctuary. When everything around me felt unstable, styling hair or experimenting with color gave me peace. The moment I picked up a brush or began sectioning hair, the noise of the world softened. My thoughts became clear, and for the first time, I felt focused, calm, and capable.
That passion eventually became my purpose.
Pursuing an education in cosmetology is important to me because it would allow me to turn something that once helped me cope into a career that helps others. I want to specialize in extensions, vivid colors, blonding services, and alternative cuts and color because each of these services represents transformation. Whether it is restoring confidence through extensions, creating bold self expression through vivid color, or helping someone feel seen through a unique style, beauty has the power to change how people see themselves.
Education will give me the technical knowledge and professional training necessary to master those skills. I want to continue learning advanced techniques and evolving alongside an industry that is constantly changing. More importantly, I want my education to help me create a stable future while positively impacting others through my work.
I know what it feels like to struggle with confidence and to feel unseen because of difficult circumstances. That is why the legacy I hope to leave is one rooted in empowerment. I want to create an environment where people feel accepted, confident, and free to express themselves unapologetically. When someone sits in my chair, I want them to leave feeling stronger than when they arrived.
I also hope my journey inspires others who come from backgrounds like mine. I want people to see that hardship does not define potential. Even when life feels uncertain, passion, education, and determination can create a different future. I want my story to remind others that creativity can become a career, and survival can become success.
Coming from a low income household has presented financial barriers to pursuing cosmetology school, but it has never weakened my determination. My work ethic was built through adversity. I am not afraid of long hours, discipline, or sacrifice because I understand what it means to work for something greater than yourself.
To me, education creates possibility. Through cosmetology, I hope to leave a legacy of confidence, creativity, and empowerment. Beauty helped me through some of the hardest seasons of my life. Now, through education, I hope to use that passion to uplift others one transformation at a time.
Scorenavigator Financial Literacy Scholarship
To have the privilege and ability to attend college or continue schooling after high school has been a huge goal and dream of mine since I was a young girl. Coming from a low income family with constant financial and medical setbacks and struggles, such as addiction, eviction, and unpaid bills, made that dream feel impossible. My goal slowly became a dread, knowing my parents and loved ones do not have the means to pay for my education or even help. The thought of figuring out where and how to make thousands of dollars just to continue my education and improve my life feels degrading. I am worth more than a minimum wage job that I can only tolerate.
Watching my loved ones and myself struggle paycheck to paycheck while stuck in minimum wage jobs because they did not complete or enroll in college or trade school can degrade and belittle anyone’s spirit and limit their life.
Earning the opportunity to attend college and trade school would change the outlook of my life and my future family’s life. Being able to learn, grow, and build a career is especially important to me because of my mental health struggles. I have learned that I am at my best when I am engaged and working toward something meaningful.
For me, this career is not simply about hair. It is about confidence. It is about giving someone the feeling I once needed the reassurance that they are powerful, expressive, and worthy of being seen. When someone sits in my chair, I want them to leave not only loving their hair, but loving themselves a little more. am at peace when I create beauty. In those quiet, focused moments, I am reminded of who I am: disciplined, determined, and capable of transformation. With the support of this scholarship, I will not only continue my education, but I will build a future where I help others find confidence, self expression, and strength through hair.
Beauty saved me in my most uncertain seasons. Now, I am ready to use it to uplift others one transformation at a time.
I want to enroll in cosmetology and learn how to help people feel better about themselves and more confident is my goal. Being able to give someone a look that puts a smile on their face is an amazing feeling. I plan to continue my education in cosmetology after completing the first two years of basic knowledge and hands-on experience so I can grow with the industry and hopefully be professionally hired, working with people around the world.

I learned how to work hard before I learned how to feel secure. Before I understood stability, I understood responsibility. I knew what it felt like to pack belongings into boxes without knowing where they would go next. I understood the quiet fear that comes with eviction notices and financial hardship. Growing up in a low income household meant nothing was guaranteed, not comfort, not permanence, not even a sense of home. What it built in me, however, was resilience, discipline, and an unshakable work ethic. When life demanded strength, I answered.
In the middle of uncertainty, I found something that grounded me: beauty. Hair and cosmetics were never just surface level interests. They became my sanctuary. When everything around me felt unstable, sitting down to style hair or experiment with color brought me peace. The moment I picked up a brush or began sectioning hair, the noise of the world softened. My breathing slowed, and my thoughts cleared. In those moments, I was not overwhelmed. I was focused, capable, and calm.
Beauty became my coping mechanism, my daily hobby, and eventually my passion. It was the one space where I felt fully in control. Creating something beautiful from a blank canvas reminded me that transformation is always possible. Even when my surroundings felt chaotic, I could create order. Even when I felt small, I could create something bold.
I know what it feels like to struggle with low confidence. Instability can make you question your worth and feel unseen. But I also know the power of transformation, not just physically, but emotionally. The first time I completed a hairstyle that made someone light up, I understood something important. Beauty is not about vanity. It is about identity, empowerment, and helping someone see themselves differently.
That is why I want to become a professional stylist. My goal is to specialize in extensions, vivid colors, blonding services, and alternative cuts. I am drawn to bold expressions, electric blues, fiery reds, soft platinum blondes, and textured styles that allow individuality to shine. Extensions represent restoration and enhancement. Blonding requires patience and precision. Vivid colors demand creativity and fearlessness. Alternative styles challenge tradition and celebrate uniqueness. Each specialty reflects transformation in its purest form.
For me, this career is not simply about hair. It is about confidence. When someone sits in my chair, I want them to leave not only loving their hair, but loving themselves more.
However, coming from a low income background presents financial barriers. My family has worked tirelessly to overcome hardship, but resources remain limited. A cosmetology scholarship would not just ease tuition costs, it would create opportunity. It would allow me to continue my education without placing additional strain on my family and give me the stability I have worked to build.
My work ethic is rooted in survival, but fueled by passion. I am not afraid of long hours, discipline, or sacrifice. In cosmetology school, I will bring focus, dedication, and a strong desire to learn. I want to master advanced extension techniques, perfect blonding methods, and continue growing with an evolving industry.
This scholarship represents more than financial support. It represents belief in my future. It would allow me to turn my passion into a profession and my survival into success.
Beauty helped me through uncertainty. Now I am ready to use it to uplift others, one transformation at a time.

To embody a life of service means choosing to live with compassion, humility, and intention each day. It is a commitment to putting others before yourself and recognizing that even small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact. Service is not limited to grand gestures or public recognition. It is found in everyday moments, in listening without judgment, offering encouragement, and using your talents to uplift those around you. Living a life of service requires patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others grow into the best version of themselves.
For me, service begins with helping people feel confident and valued. I plan to use my education in cosmetology to create an environment where individuals feel comfortable, respected, and empowered. Beauty is more than physical appearance. It is closely tied to how people see themselves and how they carry their confidence into the world. When someone feels beautiful and cared for, it can shift their mindset, strengthen their self esteem, and positively influence other areas of their life. Through cosmetics and cosmetology, I want to help people not only look their best but truly feel their best from the inside out.
My work will be rooted in love and faith. I believe that every person is created with purpose and worth, and I strive to see Christ in others. Serving others through cosmetology is, to me, an expression of that faith. When I sit behind the chair, I will not only be providing a service but also offering kindness, encouragement, and understanding. I want my space to feel safe and welcoming, where people can relax and leave feeling renewed. Whether someone is preparing for a special event or simply taking time for self care, I hope to make each interaction meaningful and uplifting.
Education will give me the technical skills and professional knowledge needed to excel in my field, but it will also teach me discipline, responsibility, and continuous growth. By mastering my craft, I can serve others with excellence and integrity. I plan to keep learning, improving, and staying committed to high standards so that I can provide quality service to every client I encounter.
Ultimately, embodying a life of service means using my gifts to make a difference. Through cosmetology, I will combine creativity, skill, and faith to help others feel confident, loved, and appreciated. My education will not just prepare me for a career, but it will equip me to serve others wholeheartedly and make a positive impact in my community.
