      Lucent Scholarship
Performing arts, dance is my chosen field of study. sometimes, I feel that I didn't choose dance, dance chose me. Dance has been an extracurricular affair since I was 2.9. at a local dance studio. My parents always felt that every child has to have something to do, so that they can stay focus and not have idol time that could lead to trouble, especially living in areas with high poverty and statistical numbers of people not having the means of affording anything other than the necessities. I'm from a two parent working class family and most times, there are no extras, however my parents always made away to enroll me. Dance has allowed me to gain access to a sense of well being. I feel confident, even while feeling unsure, if that makes sense. Throughout the years of dancing, I've been fortunate to be amongst a diverse society of people. This means race, social economic statuses. I Have a good friend that I met in first grade, Anne Goldy. Ann is of Jewish descent, her parents were both lawyers. They were kind and always invited me or my parents over for social events. They asked my parents if they could take me to see the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center, the Mecca of performing arts in New York City. As I sat with the Goldys , I was One of the few people of color viewing this wonderful show. The ballerinas were perfectly prancing across the stage. Their costumes looked as if it was from a fairy tale. Also none of the performers were of my skin color. this was very confusing for me. After the golds dropped me off, Immediately told my mom how beautiful the show was and asked if we can go as a family. I also told my mom that I was one of the few black person in the audience and how none of the the dancers were of my identity. It was this moment, that I said I wanted to be dancer on stage perfectly prancing in a fairy like costume. As I have been training for some years, It was this year that I Performed in a Nutcracker theme ballet with the school that I train with. As I leaped and pranced across the stage I felt like this was my calling that will allow me to be a performer that can assist in other children of my culture to also reach for the stars and give your passion to the audience as you perform. Dance is Accessible.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
I dance because it brings me out of myself. It’s an alto ego. The saying “dance as if no one is in the room “ is my motto that I follow every time I’m training in the studio or performing on stage. Dance has brought me to a crossroad as my senior year is here. As I apply to colleges that majors in performing arts, I questioned myself, about , will this allow me to be financially stable to care for myself and the answer is always, yes according to my heart! However as I research dancers salaries, I become increasingly conflicted. This leads me to thinking how my parents have always made sure they enrolled me at a dance school, knowing the cost was mortifying costly. This momentum of enrollment has been a part of our lives since I was 2.9 year old to the present. If they never gave up hope and continues to make a way, then I too can have hope and keep pushing. When I step on the marlin floors my soul is released. A pirouette is how I maneuver the world. It helps me to realize my strengths and weaknesses as I journey the thing called life. While applying to colleges the subject of cost is constantly my household conversation, so therefore this has led me to seek financial assistance, such as scholarships. To receive a scholarship, brings me one step closer to obtaining a Bachelor’s of fine arts. This degree will allow me to help others that have the same passion of dance to achieve the same. The stars are bright and I would love to shine along with them. Dance is love. It feeds my soul.
      LeBron James Fan Scholarship
Over the years, LeBron James has exhibit Black excellence. He has been a household topic especially during basketball season. My family and I Watch him dribble the ball up and down the court. His leadership shows on and off the court. These are two of the reasons, that I am a fan Of King James. Also he has created a real life fairy tale for so many boys, girls men and women alike. The Promise School, in which he has produced has given so many families a chance to participate in being productive citizens in a world where we are not always on or given an equal start. Most times being black in America is difficult depending on your social economic status. LeBron has given hope to many families, as their child receives a scholarship to attend college. As I read articles and watch Television outlets, I see where he was born and raised Akron, Ohio! As he run up and down the court, you see the physical and mental state as he leads the team to winning many championships. He doesn't allow his start to interfere with his destination. His family is also an enormous part of him being the greatest basketball player. Determination and family are two ingredients that can and has made King James The greatest basketball player. He's a pillar in the field that most of us can gravitate towards and use his story to become the best at whatever we choose.
