A Man Helping Women Helping Women Scholarship
As a proud Hispanic woman and the youngest of five siblings, my strong belief in the importance of family has always been unwavering. Both my parents work as longshoremen and were not able to attend college. While my siblings found their passions early on, finding my niche took me some time. For me, makeup symbolizes womanhood. I have beautiful memories of the times when my mother would allow me to wear some of her lipstick on special occasions. Seeing myself in the mirror with makeup made me feel beautiful. I still remember the first few times I wore fake eyelashes, almost gluing my eyes shut, but now I confidently help my mother put hers on before events.
I have been a part of show choir throughout middle school and high school, and I am currently a member of my high school's nationally ranked group. I have had the honor of being in charge of hair and makeup for the girls. Within this group, I aim to be the best version of myself while maintaining a fun and productive environment. We treat each other equally and act as a family. I strongly believe that in any workspace where you interact with customers, they should feel valued and respected just like in our group.
My dream for the future is to establish a med spa that gives people a sense of self-confidence and love. It would be a warm, welcoming, nonjudgmental environment that accepts and loves everyone regardless of age or gender. I only want to enhance the beautiful features that are already there. Natural features are to be valued, not picked apart and covered. Embracing your true self is the easiest step a person can take to live a fuller life. I would always abide by my principles that every face and hair type is beautiful and perfect. Every person on Earth should be comfortable in their skin with a sense that they are beautiful and perfect just the way they are. I would love to be the person to open the eyes of the ones in the dark and who are blind to their self-beauty.
Receiving this scholarship would greatly support me in my studies as I plan on attending a beauty school which supplies and materials add up to be a lot. It would truly be an honor to receive this scholarship! Thank you so much for your time.
