"I am pro-life". This is a statement I have been proud to say, no matter my audience. I am Christian, and more specifically, Catholic. This does not necessarily require me to be pro-life, but it certainly makes my beliefs run deep. I am passionate about the certainty that the unborn, no matter what stage or how small, are fully alive. Another personal aspect that makes me care deeply for the unborn is my own mom. Not only did she choose life for me, but she brings new life into the world every day. Her work as an OB/GYN inspires me to love and care the smallest and most helpless humans as relentlessly as she does. The amount of care and compassion she shows mothers and babies in her work astounds me and inspires me. I have been able to witness the great impact that showing a young mother love and compassion can have. While in a grocery store, my mother and I were approached by a woman with two children. The mother told my mom she had been her doctor during her first child's birth. The woman was only 13 years old at the time of her first pregnancy. She told my mom that her kind words encouraged her to keep her baby, even at such a young age. Now she has a husband and is living a wonderufl life with her two kids. Moments like this, I remember that our words have the biggest impact when they are filled with love.
For these reasons, I am active on my campus in our Students for Life club. I was so excited when I first heard about this club because there was nothing like this offered in my small hometown. We have monthly meetings and all kinds of activities to support both babies and mothers. Some things we have done recently include making baby blankets, supplies drive, informational talks, praying outside planned parenthood, tabling events, and so much more. My favorite event that we have been part of is 40 Days for life. We prayed rosaries outside of planned parenthood every week during the event. We do our best to make sure people stay informed about the reality of abortion but also the reality that mothers are often in desperate need.
I am passionate about the protection of the unborn. I would not be here without the love and support of this movement. Women and children alike are safer because of the pro-life movement. I am proud to be one who stand up to protect the lesser of us. I think that everyone deserves a right to life, no matter how small, no matter how many cells their living body is made of at any point. As mother Theresa said," It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish."
