Saying that attempting to progress through life as someone with undiagnosed and unmedicated ADHD is an understatement. Throughout my life, I have always struggled to keep up with work despite being an AB-student for most of my elementary-middle school career. Whenever I transitioned into High School, my executive dysfunction got stronger and began to greatly inhibit me from completing or even starting work. While I did manage to pass all of my classes, I struggled greatly and definitely did not do as well as I could have done. Even now, in college, I struggle a lot with executive dysfunction and often find myself unable to complete work; However, I have learned ways to get by these troubling circumstances. I have learned a lot about college throughout my time here, and I am learning more and more how important companionship is. Facing the challenge of executive dysfunction has also allowed me to grow and learn to rely on those around me for help if it is truly needed. Being motivated by friends and gaining more and more reasons to be here has encouraged me to work harder on my classes. Executive dysfunction is debilitating, but it becomes so much more managable when I have stronger motivation to progress. Unfortunately, companionship is not a permanent solution; I still struggle greatly with beginning work. But simply having that push to keep you going, just somewhat, is a major help. I believe that struggling in my classes has also helped me come to the realization of what I am really passionate about. When I first came to college, I had the plan of going into psychology. I wanted to go all the way — I wanted to keep studying until I managed to get a doctorate in psychology. However, after taking psychology classes and learning more about what I will be doing for the next 10 or so years, I realized that this is not what I want to do; I want, and even need, to do something that is more hands-on. I need something that I enjoy and that will sufficiently keep my attention, simply because I often have trouble paying full attention to things I actually enjoy purely because of the format it is presented in. My challenges have helped me understand what exactly I need to help me learn. I need to be able to keep focus on a task, and my best way of doing that is through hands-on jobs.

Imagine sitting in the audience watching your very first live play; You're getting lost in the music, the lights, costumes, everything that comes together to bring that world to life. No one ever thinks about the effort that goes into creating the set and scenic design for these plays; Most people tend to admire the acting before they focus on the hard work that the backstage crew put in. However, this work put into what is known as Technical Theatre is just as important as the actors themselves. It is my goal to prepare myself for a career in Technical Theatre, more specifically in costuming. Costumes are just one aspect of shows and plays that bring the whole thing together and I would love to be able to contribute to something as beautiful and cooperative as theatre. Through creating and designing costumes, I aspire to make a positive impact on theatre programs wherever I may go; Whether it's through teaching others or simply making costumes for future shows and plays. I love theatre, and I want to help create these small worlds for others to indulge in. Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to work with costuming at the moment, but I have worked intimately with Technical Theatre during my time in college.

The art medium that I am most passionate about is Theatre, but more specifically Theatre Design. I have always had a strong interest in musicals and they have brought a lot of joy to my life; And now that I have met actors and have seen more plays, my passion for Theatre as a whole has grown. Theatre creates a world for both those within (actors, crew, directors, etc.) and those spectating to drown yourself in. It is a magical experience, and it is brought together with multiple factors. When people think of theatre, they tend to think of acting; However, without theatre design and tech, we would lose half of the experience. The worlds of these plays are created through the props, the lights, the music, and everything behind the scenes. The actors play a major role, but those working behind the scenes are equally as important. The work that goes into making a show as great as it can be is very important to me as I want those watching to have the best experience possible. I have only worked backstage on a show once, and it was a very important time for me that led to me discovering my love for the world of theatre design. Theatre as a whole has enhanced my life and the lives of those around me. Some of my closest friends have strong passions for theatre, whether it be for the acting or the design. My friends who are in theatre have a great passion for it and get energized from simply rehearsing their lines. The most passionate people I have ever met come from the theatre program, and these people are very important to me. These friends are a factor of why I see so much beauty in theatre and why I want to pursue it as my life's career. As I continue getting through my degree, I hope to learn more and more about theatre that will help me put on shows that will entrance the viewers and give them something to think about. I want people to experience the same feelings I do when I watch a show or a musical, and if I can be the one to instill those feelings, I would be satisfied with my role in life. Theatre is an artform that I believe everyone should have the chance to see and/or participate in; It can enhance the mind in so many ways and I hope that those who do not enjoy theatre are able to gain an appreciation for it.
