These are integral to my mission of creating positive change and uplifting marginalized communities through accessible arts education and resources. In essence, my journey is driven by a relentless commitment to make the arts a beacon of hope and opportunity for those who need it most. Through creativity, public policy, and community development, I aspire to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable world where the arts serve as a powerful force for change and empowerment.

If granted the opportunity, I would embark on a mission to enhance my community by addressing a pressing issue that has long troubled me: inequality of access to art-based experiences for black children in most black neighborhoods. Growing up in a household shaken from domestic violence, I was often consumed by fear and anxiety which affected my ability to speak up for myself. My family and teachers always considered me to be extremely shy and I was bullied for this shyness caused by the problems I faced at home. Art became my preferred method of self-expression which supplemented my development. It gave me a voice, allowed me to build my character, and assisted me in understanding the challenges I faced in life. When I was younger, I had a dream to become an artist of some sort, but this was hampered by financial challenges and few opportunities. For this reason, equitable arts education is the most important venture for me. I believe that the artistic abilities of any young black person should not be constrained by the inequalities placed upon them by society. The arts including music, dance, visual arts, and theater can act as catalysts for personal growth, empowerment and community building. The arts provide a means for students to discover their unique voices, develop a strong work ethic, and cultivate a passion for lifelong learning. Despite this, many Black children are deprived of such chances. Budget cuts and educational inequities have led to the closure of art programs, leaving students with limited access to artistic resources. This disparity not only deprives them of opportunities for personal and intellectual growth but also perpetuates a cycle of systemic inequality. My vision for improving my community is based on creating educational programs that bridge this gap, ensuring that Black children have equitable access to the arts. These programs would be strategically placed in schools in predominantly Black neighborhoods, providing students with the tools, resources, and opportunities to explore various artistic disciplines. Furthermore, I would advocate for reforms in educational policy. These policies will provide increased funding for the arts in schools serving predominantly Black communities. I would accomplish this by working with other local leaders, parents, and community organizations to advance the cause of arts education. By creating educational programs and advocating for increased arts funding, I hope to foster a more inclusive society where every child has the opportunity to strengthen their artistic potential.

My journey into the world of the Arts commenced during my formative years, where the canvas and the stage served as gateways to a world teeming with unbridled imagination. Dance, in particular, ensnared my senses with its mesmerizing interplay of graceful movements and the evocative power of storytelling. Yet, my upbringing in a marginalized community revealed the upsetting reality of inequitable access to the Arts. Financial constraints cast extracurricular activities as a distant luxury, and my dreams of dance wilted in the face of this stark inequity. Nevertheless, adversity did not snuff out my passion; instead, it fanned its flames. My belief is elegantly simple: creativity is a birthright, not a privilege. Regardless of one's origins, every individual deserves a chance to explore, express, and ultimately excel in the Arts. This belief fed my want to establish educational programs that would serve as the keys to unlocking the Arts' transformative potential for those languishing in the shadows of opportunity. Among the defining moments of my journey was the organization of a dance workshop for underprivileged children through "Ballet and Books," a student club on my college campus. As I bore witness to the radiance of joy, the blossoming of confidence, and the newfound channels of self-expression in these young hearts, it became evident that the benefits of participating in the Arts were no mere abstraction but a radiant reality. It was a glimpse into an alternate world, a world where every child, despite their socioeconomic circumstance, could embark on a voyage to explore their artistic passions without constraint. Yet, my passion does not merely revolve around creating opportunities; it is a goal that celebrates diversity. It underscores the universal truth that artistic expression serves as a pillar for self-capability and self-confidence. The Arts have an innate ability to amplify the voices that society often silences, challenge the insidious grip of stereotypes, and serve as a catalyst for empathy and dialogue. They are not mere tools but rather an alchemical force that fosters understanding, forges unity, and ignites the fires of social change. The remarkable journey of Misty Copeland, the first Black ballerina to be a part of The American Ballet Theatre, serves as a prominent figure in fueling my passion. Her path to greatness was not paved with gold but rather with the stones of determination, bolstered by the pillars of community support. Misty embarked on her ballet odyssey within the nurturing embrace of an inner-city community center, where the exorbitant fees of privilege did not cast a looming shadow. Misty's narrative epitomizes the transformative potency of the Arts when the doors of opportunity swing open wide for all to enter. I am a fervent believer in the Arts' power to metamorphose lives, bestow empowerment upon individuals, and enrich our lives through imagination. My journey is illuminated by a vision of a world wherein every child, irrespective of their origins, is invited to explore their artistic passions and contribute their unique melodies to the symphony of human creativity.

My dream job is to serve as the CEO of a nonprofit program that operates in schools across the nation, implementing the arts in underprivileged school districts by providing access to resources and mentors. This role would allow me to combine my passion for the arts with my commitment to addressing educational inequalities. In my dream job, I envision myself working closely with students, educators, and philanthropists to bring about transformative change in these communities. As the CEO of this nonprofit program, I would regularly visit schools and engage with students. I would have the opportunity to speak to them about the myriad of ways in which the arts enhance essential life skills. These skills include creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and empathy. I believe that the arts not only enrich lives but also equip students with the tools they need to navigate an increasingly complex world. Fundraising events would be a crucial aspect of my role. I would collaborate with philanthropists, community leaders, and supporters to secure the resources needed to sustain and expand our program's reach. These events would not only raise funds but also build a network of advocates who share our vision of equitable access to arts education. In terms of the qualities I seek in a career, creativity ranks at the top. The ability to think innovatively and find novel solutions to complex problems is essential in the nonprofit sector. Flexible hours are also important to me, as they would allow me to adapt my schedule to accommodate my neurodiversity. As someone with ADHD and autism, I have learned the importance of creating a work environment that aligns with my needs, which often means embracing flexibility. Additionally, livable wages are crucial as they ensure financial stability and the ability to support oneself. Finally, a career that prioritizes its purpose and social impact is of paramount importance. Knowing that my work directly contributes to positive change in underserved communities is a driving force in my career aspirations. My experiences with ADHD and autism have indeed presented challenges during my college years. However, these challenges have also led me to develop valuable skills in time management, organization, and adaptability. I've learned to create schedules and routines that work for me, allowing me to excel academically and in my extracurricular activities. In my future career search, I will seek positions and organizations that align with my values and priorities. I will prioritize workplaces that offer flexibility, foster creativity, and have a clear social impact mission. My journey through college has taught me the importance of advocating for my needs and seeking environments that support neurodiversity. I am confident that these qualities will guide me toward a fulfilling and purpose-driven career where I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

As I reflect upon President Franklin Roosevelt's assertion that each generation encounters a pivotal moment—a rendezvous with destiny—it's impossible to overlook the stark truth that defines African-American history. Throughout our tumultuous journey, Black and brown communities have often been denied the opportunity to experience a genuine rendezvous with destiny. Our fate has too often been predetermined by systemic racism and inequality. Today, as we stand on the threshold of a new era, Millennials and Generation Z find themselves facing their defining moment, grappling with a myriad of complex issues that threaten our society and the world at large. We live in a time marked by broken communities and persistent individualism emphasized by the quest to rediscover lost ideals of success under capitalism, the struggle against diminishing rights, and an unshakable feeling of regression. However, amidst this whirlwind of challenges, resilient and visionary young individuals of this generation continue to exhibit an unmistakable ambition and drive to instigate transformative change, reshaping our very understanding of progress. Furthermore, they grapple with the disquieting notion of success under the relentless forces of capitalism—a system that has historically excluded Black and brown communities from equitable opportunities. For African Americans, the pursuit of material wealth has often remained elusive, leaving many feeling disconnected from their core values and yearning for a more meaningful existence. Underrepresented members of Generation Z possess the capacity to redefine success, placing greater emphasis on collective well-being, social justice, and environmental sustainability. By drawing inspiration from indigenous and Afro-centric wisdom that esteems community over consumerism, they can forge a new path towards a more equitable and harmonious world—one that rectifies past injustices. In addition, young individuals continue to confront the disheartening reality of diminishing rights, as government officials seek to curtail civil liberties in the name of security. The echoes of historical struggles for freedom within the African-American community—ranging from the Civil Rights Movement to contemporary fights for justice—resonate within their collective consciousness. This rich history ignites a desire to safeguard their rights and the democratic principles that underpin our society while extending those liberties to any who face oppression. Generation Z’s diverse and unwavering commitment to social justice possesses the potential to lead a renewed commitment to upholding the values of justice, equality, and liberty for all communities. Despite the prevailing sentiment that society is regressing, Generation Z displays an extraordinary ambition and drive to effect positive change. They reject passivity in the face of a deteriorating world and instead resolve to be the architects of a brighter future. This indomitable spirit and unswerving dedication to progress set them apart by being a generation poised to confront the complex challenges of our time which have been exacerbated and ignored by previous generations. At the heart of Generation Z's journey lies the profound challenge of fostering togetherness in a world that often lacks the principles necessary for genuine community. As a Gen-Z Black Woman, I have borne witness to the enduring scars of historical divisions and systemic inequalities that have disproportionately impacted Black and brown communities. In an age marked by social discord and ideological conflicts, these young individuals—many of them hailing from marginalized backgrounds—possess a unique opportunity to rekindle the values of empathy, inclusivity, and collaboration. Just as the Greatest Generation united in the face of adversity during World War II, today's youth have the potential to bridge divides, reigniting a sense of collective purpose that transcends individual interests and origins. We refuse to be confined by preconceived models or paradigms, drawing inspiration from a diverse array of sources, including indigenous and Afro-centric ideas of community and knowledge. These wisdom traditions accentuate the interconnectedness of all life, the significance of harmony with nature, and the value of collective wisdom. African American youth within Generation Z harness these profound concepts to envision a more inclusive and sustainable world, where the well-being of all takes precedence over the pursuit of individual gain.

My unique contribution to making mental health care affordable and accessible revolves around establishing community-based connection hubs. These hubs would serve as local centers where individuals in need of mental health support can find resources, guidance, and a network of empathetic individuals ready to listen and assist. I would emphasize the importance of culturally competent care, ensuring that these hubs are sensitive to the diverse needs of the community they serve. By offering resources in multiple languages, recognizing cultural nuances, and promoting inclusivity, these centers would bridge gaps in mental health care access for underserved populations. My vision is not just about providing affordable mental health care; it's about fostering a sense of community, empathy, and support that is often missing in conventional mental health care systems. By creating these community-based connection hubs, I aim to make mental health care a fundamental and accessible part of every community's well-being.

Living sustainably has become an imperative aspect of my daily life, marked by a series of intentional choices aimed at minimizing my environmental impact. These choices are not merely a trend or a response to growing ecological concerns; they are a conscious commitment to safeguarding our planet for future generations. In today's world, the urgency of addressing climate change and its dire consequences has never been more apparent. From rising global temperatures to extreme weather events and the loss of biodiversity, the signs of environmental degradation are all around us. Recognizing the gravity of this situation, I have made it a personal mission to adopt sustainable practices in my daily life. One of the key pillars of my sustainable living approach is reducing energy consumption. I meticulously manage my electricity and water usage by adopting energy-efficient appliances, turning off lights when not in use, and minimizing water wastage. These small but intentional actions help lower my carbon footprint by decreasing the demand for fossil fuels, which are a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, I advocate for the use of renewable energy sources such as solar panels, which offer a clean and sustainable alternative to conventional power generation. Another significant aspect of my sustainable lifestyle is my choice of transportation. I prioritize walking, cycling, carpooling, and the use of public transit whenever possible. By reducing my reliance on personal vehicles powered by fossil fuels, I not only decrease my carbon emissions but also contribute to alleviating traffic congestion and improving air quality. Additionally, I advocate for the expansion of public transportation systems and the development of bicycle-friendly infrastructure to encourage sustainable commuting options for all. The rationale behind my commitment to reducing my carbon footprint is grounded in a deep sense of responsibility toward our planet and future generations. Climate change poses an existential threat to our environment, biodiversity, and human civilization. Its consequences, if left unchecked, will reverberate across the globe, impacting vulnerable communities disproportionately. By reducing my carbon footprint, I actively participate in the global effort to mitigate the effects of climate change, working towards a more sustainable and equitable future. Reducing carbon emissions is not solely a matter of environmental concern; it also addresses social and economic disparities. Vulnerable communities, often those least responsible for carbon emissions, bear the brunt of climate change impacts. By adopting sustainable practices, I contribute to a more just and equitable world by helping to alleviate the burden on these communities. Furthermore, reducing our carbon footprint can stimulate economic growth through the creation of green jobs and the development of clean energy technologies. The intentional choices I make to live sustainably are rooted in my recognition of the urgent need to address climate change and reduce our carbon footprint. By reducing energy consumption, promoting sustainable transportation, and practicing responsible consumption and waste reduction, I aim to minimize my environmental impact and advocate for a more sustainable future. It is not only an ecological imperative but also a social and economic responsibility to reduce our carbon emissions and safeguard the planet for current and future generations. Living sustainably is not merely a choice; it is a commitment to the well-being of our planet and all its inhabitants.

The realm of science, particularly the fields of political science and social sciences, has undeniably played a pivotal role in shaping my decision to pursue a career in graphic design. My journey toward graphic design did not commence with the typical artist's brush or a fascination with colors and shapes. Instead, it embarked with a fascination for communication, both verbal and visual, and a profound interest in the dynamics of human interaction within society. This curiosity drew me to the fields of political science and social sciences, where I explored the intricate web of relationships, power structures, and societal influences that govern our lives. In the world of political science, I encountered the complexities of governance, policymaking, and the impact of decisions on individuals and communities. Through rigorous analysis and research, I developed the ability to dissect intricate issues, discern underlying patterns, and articulate my findings effectively. It was here that I honed the art of persuasion, recognizing the vital role of communication in influencing opinions and shaping policies. Simultaneously, my studies in the social sciences exposed me to the multifaceted nature of human behavior and society's interwoven fabric. I delved into the nuances of psychology, sociology, and anthropology, gaining insights into the factors that motivate individuals and communities. These disciplines illuminated the power of storytelling, empathy, and visual communication in bridging gaps, fostering understanding, and driving societal change. It was at the juncture of these academic pursuits that my path converged with graphic design. I realized that design, much like political science and the social sciences, is a dynamic tool for communication and influence. It serves as a visual language that transcends cultural, linguistic, and demographic boundaries. Through design, complex ideas can be distilled into digestible visuals, making them accessible to diverse audiences. For instance, consider a campaign advocating for social justice or environmental sustainability. With graphic design, I could craft visually striking materials that not only conveyed the urgency of the issue but also evoked empathy and prompted individuals to take action. The strategic use of color, typography, and imagery became my tools for fostering societal awareness and change. Furthermore, graphic design's role in political campaigns fascinated me. It became evident that the success of political candidates often hinged on their ability to convey their platforms through compelling visuals and messaging. Here, the intersection of politics and design became palpable, and I realized that my unique background in political science could provide me with a nuanced perspective in the field of campaign design and political communication. As I ventured deeper into graphic design, I uncovered the profound impact it has on public perception and behavior. Design choices, whether in branding, user interfaces, or marketing materials, can shape how individuals perceive an organization or product. This insight from my social science studies became invaluable in creating designs that not only looked aesthetically pleasing but also resonated with the target audience on a psychological level. In conclusion, the fields of political science and social sciences have intricately woven their threads into my pursuit of a career in graphic design. They have endowed me with a unique perspective, enabling me to infuse my designs with analytical depth, empathy, and the power to influence societal narratives. My journey exemplifies the harmonious convergence of seemingly disparate disciplines, ultimately shaping my path toward a career that bridges the worlds of visual communication and societal impact. As I embark on this professional journey, I am driven by the belief that graphic design can be a potent force for change, illuminating the complex issues of our time and inspiring meaningful action.

Title: Illuminating Pathways: The Significance of Extending a Helping Hand In the intricate tapestry of humanity, there exists an unbreakable thread—an innate, primal yearning to connect, support, and uplift one another. This desire etched deeply into the very core of our human spirit, impels us to extend our hands in aid to those who stand in need. Why, you might wonder, is it so crucial to lend a helping hand? The answer is far more profound than mere empathy; it resides in the inherent transformative power that such acts possess—a power capable of shattering the barriers that divide us, nurturing the seeds of hope, and sowing the seeds of lasting change. At the heart of my passion lies an ardent longing—to create equal opportunities in the Arts for marginalized communities through the conduit of educational programs. This aspiration is not an isolated thread but an integral part of my understanding of why helping others is paramount. It is a belief rooted in an unwavering conviction—a conviction that art, in its purest form, transcends the confines of boundaries and language, offering a universal medium with the potential to unite and uplift even those who have been marginalized, silenced, and disenfranchised. To help others is to embrace and celebrate our shared humanity. It is the recognition that every individual, regardless of their background or circumstance, deserves a chance to thrive and to realize their full potential. Within the realm of the Arts, it means unlocking the doors to creative expression and self-discovery, bestowing a voice upon those whose narratives have long been muted. In the pursuit of creating equal opportunities in the Arts, I have been blessed with the opportunity to collaborate with individuals from a multitude of diverse backgrounds, each possessing their own unique, untold story. These interactions have served as a radiant beacon, illuminating the extraordinary depth and richness of the human experience. They have fostered a profound appreciation for the indomitable impact of art—how it can mend the human spirit, empower individuals, and rejuvenate communities. Helping others is a testament to our collective responsibility for the world we inhabit. It is an acknowledgment that the world can indeed be a better place when we actively contribute to the well-being of those who share it with us. Through educational programs in the Arts, I have borne witness to individuals from marginalized communities as they uncover their latent potential, nurture newfound confidence, and harness their creative voices to challenge entrenched stereotypes and societal constraints. The ripple effect of these transformations extends far beyond the individual, touching the lives of families, neighborhoods, and entire communities. In summation, the significance of helping others is a guiding light that steers us towards a world characterized by compassion and equity. It serves as a constant reminder that we are all inexorably connected and that our actions possess the potential for profound and far-reaching consequences. For me, this guiding principle is embodied in my fervent passion for creating equal opportunities in the Arts for marginalized communities. Through educational programs and artistic endeavors, I endeavor to light the way, plant the seeds of hope, and be a catalyst for positive change. In doing so, I hope to become an integral part of a larger movement—one that transforms lives alters perspectives, and leaves an indelible mark on the world we collectively inhabit. As the words of Maya Angelou remind us, "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry," and it is through helping others that we can thread a tapestry woven from the diverse and beautiful fabric of human experience.
    Mental Health Importance Scholarship
The significance of mental health in our lives cannot be overstated; it's the invisible force that shapes our emotions, thoughts, and actions. My belief in its paramount importance arises from a deep understanding of the consequences of neglecting it. Untreated mental health issues, lurking beneath the surface, can lead to skill regression, burnout, strained relationships, and an overall diminished quality of life. At its core, mental health is intertwined with our overall well-being. It molds our perspective on life, colors our interactions, and shapes how we tackle life's challenges. Just as physical health is crucial to our daily functioning, mental health is equally indispensable. Neglecting it is akin to ignoring a fundamental part of our existence. The consequences of unaddressed mental health issues can be far-reaching. Skill regression is one such outcome. When mental health deteriorates, our cognitive abilities, creativity, and problem-solving skills often follow suit. Our minds become consumed by distressing thoughts and emotions, leaving limited mental capacity for productive thinking. This regression can hinder academic or professional growth and result in missed opportunities. Burnout, another consequence, is a common outcome when mental health is neglected. The constant pressure and emotional burden that accompany poor mental health can lead to chronic exhaustion and disengagement. Burnout doesn't just affect personal well-being but can also impair academic or professional performance, hampering progress and success. To safeguard my mental wellness, I employ a variety of strategies. Regular physical activity is a cornerstone of my mental health regimen. Exercise not only enhances physical health but also releases endorphins, nature's mood boosters. Engaging in physical activity provides a channel to release stress, anxiety, and pent-up emotions, helping me maintain equilibrium. Building connections within supportive campus communities is another crucial element of my mental wellness. Social support is a powerful defense against mental health challenges. Being part of a supportive network fosters a sense of belonging and provides a lifeline for sharing experiences, seeking guidance, and finding solace. These connections bolster resilience and counteract the isolation often associated with mental health struggles. Additionally, I've come to understand the importance of setting boundaries and learning to say no to commitments that could overwhelm me or intensify stress. Recognizing my limits and prioritizing self-care is vital. This includes dedicating time for rest, relaxation, and activities that bring joy and fulfillment. In conclusion, the significance of mental health cannot be overstated. Its neglect can result in skill regression, burnout, and a significantly diminished quality of life. To safeguard my mental wellness, I am committed to regular physical activity, actively seeking out supportive communities, and steadfastly practicing the art of setting boundaries. Through these actions, I am not only strengthening my resilience but also ensuring that I am well-prepared to confront life's challenges with unwavering clarity and vitality.

In the vast, enigmatic expanse of the cosmos, a breathtaking tapestry of celestial wonders beckons to our inquisitive souls, waiting to be unveiled and comprehended. The relentless pursuit of comprehending the nature of our universe transcends the realms of mere scientific exploration; it is a profound journey that possesses the transformative potential to harmonize our existence with the diverse living organisms that share our precious planet, unveil the pernicious ways in which humanity impacts the world, and kindle a profound connection with the awe-inspiring, cosmic grandeur that envelops us. This monumental quest is not confined to the domain of astronomers and physicists alone; rather, it is a collective human endeavor that transcends disciplinary boundaries and is propelled by our innate curiosity—a ceaseless yearning to decipher the underlying truths governing the cosmic symphony. The paramount importance of embarking on this odyssey of cosmic understanding cannot be overstated. It offers us an unprecedented opportunity to forge a harmonious coexistence with the remarkable tapestry of life on Earth. Despite the unparalleled beauty and diversity of our planet's ecosystems, the relentless march of human activities, driven by unchecked industrialization and resource exploitation, has threatened the delicate balance of nature. Climate change, pollution, and habitat destruction—these are but a few of the lamentable consequences of our actions. The concept of "biophilia," eloquently introduced by the esteemed biologist E.O. Wilson, asserts that humans possess an innate affinity for the vast array of life forms that inhabit our world. This powerful idea extends beyond the boundaries of our planet, beckoning us to appreciate not only the wondrous biodiversity of Earth but also the potential for life to flourish in the cosmic theater. It is in the discovery of exoplanets, habitable zones, and the relentless search for extraterrestrial life that our sense of wonder and reverence for the cosmos is awakened, strengthening our deep bond with the natural world. By unraveling the intricate workings of the universe, we gain valuable insights into the cosmic rhythms that govern not only the celestial bodies but also the nuanced and interconnected natural cycles on Earth. This profound understanding can serve as a guiding beacon, illuminating a path toward sustainable and harmonious coexistence with our planet's fragile ecosystems. Furthermore, the exploration of the universe provides an invaluable cosmic perspective, offering profound insights into the detrimental aspects of human behavior. As we turn our gaze toward the vastness of the cosmos, the myriad concerns and conflicts that often consume our daily existence appear infinitesimal in comparison. This cosmic outlook has the potential to foster humility and unity among humanity, transcending the arbitrary divisions that plague our world. Consider the transformative phenomenon known as the "Overview Effect," a profound experience reported by astronauts who have gazed upon Earth from the serene confines of outer space. 2. Why are you choosing to pursue education in the arts? In a world painted with endless possibilities, I have chosen to pursue education in the arts because I believe that creativity has the power to transform lives, transcend boundaries, and bridge the chasm of inequity. It is a path illuminated not only by my passion for artistic expression but also by an unwavering commitment to bringing opportunities to low-income and marginalized communities, particularly those of people of color (POC). My most important reason for wanting a career in the arts is to provide children residing in these areas with the same chances to succeed as those who live in high-income neighborhoods. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have access to arts education and resources that allowed me to explore my creativity and develop a deep appreciation for the arts. However, I couldn't help but notice the stark disparities that exist in the availability of arts education and exposure in different communities. Many low-income neighborhoods, often predominantly populated by people of color, lack access to quality arts programs, creative outlets, and opportunities for artistic growth. This imbalance perpetuates a cycle of limited access to cultural enrichment and hinders the development of talent and potential in these communities. My journey into the arts began as a personal exploration, but it quickly transformed into a mission to address this inequity. I am deeply committed to utilizing my education in the arts as a catalyst for change. One of my primary goals is to establish community centers in underserved areas, offering a wide range of arts programs and resources. These centers will be hubs of creativity, fostering an environment where children and young adults can discover their talents, nurture their passions, and dream without limitations. Additionally, I envision hosting teaching seminars and workshops that not only empower individuals with artistic skills but also inspire them to envision a future filled with opportunities. These seminars will not only provide technical knowledge but also mentorship, guidance, and encouragement to navigate the often challenging path of pursuing a career in the arts. Furthermore, I am committed to securing funding for arts initiatives in underserved communities. Whether through grant writing, fundraising campaigns, or collaboration with organizations that share my vision, I aim to ensure that financial barriers do not hinder the creative aspirations of young talents. Through my dedication to this cause, I hope to dismantle the barriers that restrict access to the arts for low-income and POC communities. I want to open doors that were previously closed, offering children and young adults the chance to express themselves, gain confidence, and develop skills that extend far beyond the canvas or stage. The arts have the power to instill a sense of pride, purpose, and belonging, and I firmly believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves the opportunity to experience this transformative force. In conclusion, my pursuit of education in the arts is not merely about personal passion and creativity; it is a lifelong commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive world. I want to use my knowledge and skills to bring the beauty and richness of the arts to underserved communities, providing opportunities for self-expression, personal growth, and empowerment. Through community centers, teaching seminars, and funding initiatives, I hope to be a catalyst for change, giving children in low-income and POC areas the chance to shine and succeed, just like their peers in high-income neighborhoods. It is my unwavering belief that by doing so, we can paint a brighter future for generations to come.

    Anne DiSerafino Memorial Arts Scholarship
As a Black woman coming from a home of blue collar workers living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to support, not only themselves, but an entire family, I have always shoveled Basquiat colored jewels under 401k fruitful dirt. I planned my career based on society's idea of stability and became fearful of failing to progress myself, my family, and my people. I applied to colleges with dreams to become a woman in politics; to ensure financial safety and fight for the rights that Black Americans have been repeatedly deprived of, however I realized I was not being fulfilled in the way I once thought I could be. There was a yearning in my chest dying to feel satisfied and I knew I had to create a new path for myself, regardless of how terrifying that felt as a second-year college student trying to receive my degree amidst a pandemic. Despite the backlash from family members and friends, I prioritized myself and my wants, thus deciding to transfer from a well accredited university and switch my major to graphic design. When asked what drives my passion for art, I reminisce on how difficult this time was for me. Relationships were left strained and I carried the weight of lacking support whilst managing a change in my career path. No matter how helpless I felt at times, I knew I would never allow this new found fire in me to burn out. I spent most of my life working towards the goals of others and once I decided to take a moment to clean off my lenses, I realized I never needed glasses in the first place. So Again, when asked what drives my passion for art, the only answer that felt suitable was resilience. Art displays varying motives and can be interpreted in many ways, but I would say my favorite thing about art is the resilience of the artists themselves to create careers out of something that most people scoff at. If I can maintain the resilience I have shown in that moment of my life, then my art will never cease to strengthen my passion. I hope to receive the Anne DiSerafino Memorial Arts Scholarship in order to begin my studies of the arts and gain the opportunity to strengthen my skills without adding to my debt. Similar to Anne DiSerafino, I would regret looking back on my life and not choosing my own fulfillment in the arts.

John-Michel Basquiat's untitled piece from 1981 depicts a downturned expression pinned onto the cross section of a Black man's head, revealing an unsettling look into the mind of a Black man, maybe even Basquiat himself. This piece has remained prevalent in my mind since I was a little girl, as the image used to scare me. As I've grown into my body, this piece has stayed with me for a different reason. When I was 14, I was diagnosed with depression and later ADHD. As a Black girl, my mental health has received seldom concern from my family and my community, however this untitled piece has always made me feel seen. The piece's strokes leave me feeling uneasy and anxious, especially the work closer to the "brain", a feeling I've grown familiar with amidst my mental illnesses. Seeing a Black face that so clearly represents me as Black individual struggling with mental health has always brought comfort in knowing I am not alone in this struggle.
