Bio

I am a 26 year old woman who is looking to lift herself out of poverty via a college education. I was unable to graduate high school due to my disability, but I was able to obtain my GED in 2017. I have struggled with poverty for a vast majority of my life. I was never able to join any sports or extra curricular activities because my family struggled to even put food on the table. College never seemed like something I could do, due to financial and mental health struggles. My father died in 2020. He wanted me to go to college, so I decided I would try my best to attend college in the 2021 school year. I know it will be an uphill battle, but I am willing to make it work. I plan to put everything I can into becoming someone to make my father proud.

    Art of Giving Scholarship
For my entire life, I have struggled with poverty. I remember wondering if I was going to have dinner that night, or if my school lunch and breakfast be all I had for the day. I was never able to join any after school clubs, any sports, or anything that cost money. All my birthday and Christmas presents came from the salvation army, and all my food was paid for with WIC, food stamps, and pantries. My clothes were all either hand-me-downs, or things we got for free from other people. When I was a child, I wanted to attend college, but as I grew older, I realized college was too expensive for me. My family was unable to save up for vacations, let alone a college education. For years I have struggled with finances. I never had enough money to pay my bills and often relied on assistance from charities or government programs to stay out of homeless shelters. I still am barely scraping by, but I have finally found a way to attend college. Every bit of money helps, and I hope to be considered to receive this scholarship.
