ECCL Divine 9 Scholarship
Becoming a Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. member in 2022 was more than a moment—it was a transformation. From the beginning of my membership, I committed myself to serving my chapter and the broader community that raised me. Since then, I have held nearly every position within my chapter, each teaching me more about service, leadership, and sisterhood. Today, as I prepare to take on the role of Basileus, I reflect on this journey's impact on my education, my purpose, and the legacy I strive to leave behind.
My involvement in Sigma Gamma Rho has been deeply intertwined with my time at Middle Tennessee State University. I've developed skills far beyond the classroom through leadership roles, including two years on the NPHC executive board. Coordinating programs, advocating for unity among Divine Nine organizations, and representing the voice of Black Greek life on campus have given me a sense of direction and a platform to inspire others. These experiences have shaped my academic journey, helping me find focus and passion in my animation, video, and film production studies.
Balancing my studies with my commitments has not been easy. There were moments when the weight of leadership, personal goals, and academics felt overwhelming. I’ve faced the challenges of impostor syndrome, financial hardships, and the pressure of being a student leader who is always “on.” But every challenge has only made me more resilient. My sorority sisters, mentors, and the Divine Nine network have continuously lifted me, reminding me that I am not alone.
Looking forward, I plan to use my membership to continue amplifying the voices of Black women and underserved communities. Whether it’s through storytelling in film or organizing service projects that target educational equity, I want to merge my creative talents with my commitment to service. As Basileus, I plan to lead my chapter with compassion and intention, focusing on impactful programming, mentorship initiatives, and academic excellence. I want to be the leader who leaves doors open for those coming behind me, just as others have done for me.
My dreams are big. I want to tell stories that matter—stories that make people feel seen. I want to create animated films and documentaries that challenge stereotypes and celebrate our culture. I want to be a changemaker, both behind the camera and in the community. My journey through Sigma Gamma Rho has taught me that service and leadership are not separate from my dreams; they are what ground them in purpose.
To be considered for the EECL Divine 9 Scholarship is an honor. It affirms that our work within our organizations is seen and valued. If selected, I will continue striving to embody the ideals of sisterhood, scholarship, and service—not just in my letters, but in every step I take.
