Being a student official has given me many memories, but the one that stands out the most is the time I spent working games alongside my friends. What made those moments special wasn’t just the games themselves, but the atmosphere we created together. We would arrive early, joke around while preparing the field or court, and help each other get ready before the game started. Even though we had a job to do, it never really felt like work. Instead, it felt like being part of a team where everyone had each other’s back. The best part was realizing that we were doing something we enjoyed while also earning money. Being on the clock while laughing with friends and sharing inside jokes made the experience feel even more rewarding. During games, we had to stay focused and professional, but there were always small moments that reminded me why I loved the job. Whether it was exchanging quick glances after a funny situation or talking about the game afterward, those experiences created a strong sense of camaraderie. We learned how to communicate without saying much, trust each other’s decisions, and support one another when the pressure increased. Even when games became intense and emotions ran high, having my friends there made the experience manageable and even fun. Looking back, those moments taught me that work can be meaningful and enjoyable when you are surrounded by people who share the same goals and mindset. While the friendships and fun were some of the highlights, being part of the Officials Academy played a much bigger role in shaping who I am today. The academy pushed me to grow in ways I didn’t initially expect. As an official, I had to learn how to make quick decisions, stay calm under pressure, and maintain fairness no matter the situation. These skills didn’t come naturally at first, but through training, mentorship, and experience, I became more confident in my abilities. The academy emphasized accountability and professionalism, teaching me that every call I made had an impact on the game and the players. Through this process, I developed a stronger sense of responsibility. I learned how to manage my time, show up prepared, and take my role seriously. Being trusted to officiate games meant that others relied on me to be fair, consistent, and composed. Those expectations helped me mature and recognize the importance of discipline and commitment. Over time, I began to see how the lessons from officiating applied beyond the field. The ability to stay focused, think critically, and remain calm under pressure are qualities that will benefit me throughout my life. Because of these experiences, I have grown into a more responsible and determined person. The Officials Academy not only helped me develop leadership and decision-making skills, but it also motivated me to think more seriously about my future. Those lessons have inspired me to pursue my aspirations and take the next step in my academic journey. As I look ahead, I plan to bring the same dedication and work ethic to my studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where I hope to major in civil engineering. Just as officiating required attention to detail, fairness, and responsibility, civil engineering demands careful planning and thoughtful decision-making. The experiences I gained as a student official have prepared me to take on new challenges, and I am excited to continue growing as I work toward achieving my goals.
