My ultimate goal is to become a commercial airline pilot! I am close to completing my Private Pilot License at Ocean Aviation Flight Academy! Eventually, I hope to combine my broadcasting skills along with my experience as a pilot to possibly serve as an aviation and transportation journalist and correspondent for a television network.
I am a student athlete ranking in the top 10% of my class. My G.P.A. is 4.2. My greatest honor, has been my appointment by Governor John Carney (DE) to serve as the student representative on the Delaware State Board of Education- representing all k-12 Delaware Students.
I am a member of the National Honor Society and National Society of Student Scholars. During my Junior year, I acquired 12 credits through Wilmington University, along with two Advanced Placement Courses. As a senior, I have been accepted into the Concurrent Enrollment Program at Southern Utah University and will be taking two Aviation courses (6 credits) Furthermore, I am also pursuing my private pilot license. I plan to attend college and major in Aviation/Professional Flight and minor in Spanish and Journalism.
I play varsity Lacrosse and Football for my high school, as well as Club Lacrosse throughout the entire year. In addition, I have pursued my interest in communications through my work as the lead anchor and producer for my High School TV news program.
When I am not engaged in the above activities I work a part-time job retail sales and and also volunteer 3-6 hours per week at a local community center as an intake volunteer.

I have often heard my mother say, "If you are not setting out to be the best you are doing a tremendous disservice to yourself and others!" Maturity has enabled me to better understand and value the meaning.
Now, at 17, I realize that those were not merely words, but the cultivation of a mindset. Martin Luther King once said, “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” This quote encapsulates my goals and responsibilities as a future pilot. My desire is not just to be "a pilot", but rather, the best pilot; not just to be a part of the aviation industry, but to have a significant impact upon it.
Currently, as a senior in high school, I am in the final stages of obtaining my Private Pilot License. Simultaneously, I am also in the middle of an Internship through Ocean Aviation at the Georgetown Airport in Delaware. In addition, I was accepted into the concurrent enrollment program at Southern Utah University. I completed my first course, Aircraft Systems, in December with an A and will start a second course, Air Transportation, in mid-January.
My ultimate goal is to become a Commercial Pilot. However, another passion of mine, which I eventually hope will complement my flying career, is Broadcast Journalism. At some point, I hope to work as an Aviation Correspondent for a major Television Network. My desire to pursue a career in air travel was sparked by hearing stories on the news ranging from the heroic actions of flight teams, or the lack of qualified pilots needed for logistical and operational safety, to reports on the global economic impact of aviation commerce. I hope that my firsthand experience as a pilot, coupled with my desire to report with integrity and accuracy will create the credibility and transparency necessary for progressive innovation and consumer trust within the aviation industry.
Aviation serves so many purposes in society. Travel, whether it is for well-being, enrichment, or career is a major force in people’s lives. At times, our nation has come to a standstill because of its dependence on the aviation industry. This is one of the many facets of aviation that is important to me- being a part of something so significant! Yet, that does not come close to the honor and privilege of serving others, as they bestow their faith and trust in me. The stakes are high, the demand is great, and the responsibility to others requires unwavering resilience and focus. As my mother ingrained in me- “if you are not setting out to be the best, you are doing a disservice to yourself and others!” Truer words have never been spoken, nor have they been as relevant and meaningful as they will serve to be in my professional role as an aviator. This form of service is greater than individual goals and pursuits- with the greatest personal accomplishment coming from my contribution to another person’s journey in life, as I help them reach their destinations, both literally and figuratively.

My work as a volunteer has evolved into what could be described as a servant leadership style established on the foundation of gratitude, humility, grace, and most importantly action. I try to live and lead by example and allow my actions to speak for themselves. I have been blessed with many things in life, hence I feel it is not only my obligation, but more so, a privilege to use those talents, and give back to make someone so that I may make someone else's life better.
Whether as an intake coordinator at the Rehoboth Beach Community Center or as Governor John Carney's appointed Student Member on the Delaware State Board of Education, I hope my actions are reflective of a servant leader. My goal as Delaware's only student board member of the State Board of Education is always to provide a voice for those who may never be extended the opportunity to contribute. As a servant leader, I believe everyone, regardless of their race, socioeconomic status, age, or any other experienced hardships or limitations has the right to be heard, seen, valued, and respected. I also believe that everyone has the competency and compassion to productively contribute, but often just needs an advocate or mentor to ignite their confidence or empower their contribution and voice! I believe my peers would say that I have done this as a student-athlete, community activist, and volunteer.
As an Intake Volunteer with the Rehoboth Beach Community Resource Center, I document specific needs for our clients (i.e. food insecurity, health care, unemployment) and align those needs to specific services offered through the center and local community. The entire experience has been both rewarding and fulfilling, but more so very humbling. It has enabled me to put aside trivial wants and desires and remain focused and grateful for what is most important in life, such as a warm and safe home, food, clothing, shelter, access to quality health care and educational opportunities, and a supportive and loving family to come home to each day. As a result, it has made me more aware and sensitive to the needs of others, making me a more compassionate listener, able to respect all people and treat them with dignity and honor, regardless of their situation or status. This experience also drives the work I do with the State Board of Education. It has made me determined to contribute to the process of providing a world-class education for all of Delaware's students. In turn, hopefully, it will break the cycle of poverty, and enable the next generation to have financial security and independence.
Servant leadership can be applied to all facets of life. It starts with a shift in mindset that changes our motivations. It grows to include how we value and treat our own family, and ultimately it expands to include not only what we do in our society, but more so how we model this behavior for others to see, and hopefully imitate, spreading the goal of servant leadership through volunteerism, and reaching more and more people!

As a varsity long snapper, I did not hold a position of tremendous glory! The position of Long Snapper has been described as high risk, but with low reward. It takes perseverance and a steady mental mindset. It is like a relief pitcher in baseball- you are expected to come into the game in crucial situations, with no room for error, or no time to dwell on negativity or become overcome with fear. You must always be ready and must always strive for perfection. If you are seeking rock star status, or your name in the paper each week, that will not happen. You may snap 1000 perfect balls, but the only time you are recognized is if you make a mistake. This position requires a true sense of self and a willingness to put the needs and goals of the entire team first.
My mother has often said to me over the years, “Gus, while you are sitting here, someone is out there training and practicing- perfecting their gaming! There will always be someone stronger or even more talented- however, you will derive your sense of accomplishment and fulfillment by being the person who works harder and sacrifices the most. The sacrifice, challenges, and hard work you put in on the front end is what sets you apart and opens doors of opportunity for you on the back end." I strongly believe that this advice shaped my work ethic and commitment. I came to the field every day with a desire to be better and master my craft. I also came to the field with a positive attitude and a desire to learn from my coaches. As a result, the doors of opportunity opened for me. I was respected by coaches and teammates and given leadership roles on my team. Additionally, through hard work, I became nationally recognized as a long snapper, after being deemed the “overall camp champion at the Rubio Rising Seniors Camp in Los Angeles, CA this summer, beating out the number one long snapper in the country. Yet, most importantly, football has generated a great sense of humility within me, which has sparked my desire to serve. Football not only provided me with a sense of dignity and responsibility but most importantly a desire to serve. It fostered my idea of what being a good teammate was all about. Football is more than just the game itself or an individual desire, but rather, a holistic mindset comprised of relentless dedication and a desire to use your actions and philosophy as a vehicle for supporting, encouraging, and inspiring your teammates.
Football created a mindfulness within me, allowing me to recognize that my actions and work ethic do not serve in achieving one particular goal, but are the foundation for all that I will do in life, in turn, shaping my integrity, commitment, and leadership, which are the qualities that inspire and influence others. As a result, I hope that my example will empower and motivate another teammate, colleague, or friend to emulate that same level of determination and drive- which in the end, benefits not only the individual but the collective capacity of the team!

My name is Augustine (Gus) Musika. I have taken five advanced placement classes and eight college courses over the last two years. I am ranked in the top 10% of my class with a 4.14 GPA. I am the starting Long Snapper and back-up quarter for our Varsity football team. I am also the Goalie for our High School Lacrosse team. In my spare time I enjoy CrossFit training, working my part-time job in sales at Hollister, and most importantly pursuing my private pilot license. I am eager to pursue a career in Aviation. I started this process during my junior year of high school. This November, I will have my private pilot license. Since September and throughout my Senior year, I will be taking part in an Internship through Ocean Aviation at the Georgetown Airport in Delaware.
I believe that I have been blessed with so many wonderful experiences and opportunities in life, therefore, community service and civic advocacy are important to me. I have pursued service opportunities that enable me to give back to my community, while also serving as a voice for those that may have been historically underrepresented. I am an intake coordinator at the Rehoboth Beach Community Center. My work here enables me to connect with members of my community who desperately suffer from food insecurity, unemployment, homelessness, and other deficits such as lack of medical care or an inability to keep up with utility bills. With a compassionate ear, I listen and document their needs, and in turn, align services accordingly. On a larger scale, I was also appointed by Governor John Carney (Delaware) to serve on the State Board of Education. My role on the State Board is to provide all students in Delaware with a voice and representation among educators and legislators, who are making decisions that directly affect their education and well-being. My platform on the State Board connects to much of the work I do at the Rehoboth Beach Community Center. Using my civic leadership position I advocate for equity in education, combined with the need for expanded school safety and mental health resources for students, which are critical for all Delaware students to thrive.
I believe I can use my skills and dedication to service to also contribute to the Aviation Industry. Aviation serves so many purposes in society- economic, industrial, and social. Travel, whether it is for well-being, enrichment, or career is a major force in people’s lives. However, educational training for this career is very costly. My family is not wealthy; however, they have and continue to sacrifice to support my future education and career aspirations. My mother’s savings have gone solely to preparing me for college. She does this selflessly and has given up her interests strictly to enhance my ambitions. Her goal is for me to enter college focused on pursuing my dream of becoming a Commercial Pilot. It is a priority for my family that I am empowered with energy, enthusiasm, and a diligent desire to engage and devote myself to my studies, as opposed to being stifled, limited, or overly preoccupied with worries about how I will pay for my education or the insurmountable debt that I may incur. Their focus and support of my goals have been to create a pathway, that is unincumbered, allowing me to thrive academically, and in turn, pursue the career of my dreams, allowing me to be both professionally and financially independent. Hence this scholarship opportunity not only helps me pursue my dreams, but it also helps those who are sacrificing and contributing to my pursuit!

Mind, Body, & Soul Scholarship
Entering my senior year of high school, I have already taken on new endeavors, and although they are small in comparison to the vast experiences I will have in college, it has opened my mind to the amazing possibilities that await. I am eager to transition to the next stage of life. High School can be very insular, and the majority of the students I attend school with are similar to me. I am excited to meet new people from various backgrounds and cultures, who have had exposure to varied ways of life. I feel this is the greatest method for learning and development, for it requires an individual to have an open mind and a willingness to understand, embrace, and perhaps, adopt new ways of learning, living, and leading. By sharing experiences with a diverse group of people from all over the country, I feel as though I will be challenged on so many levels. Additionally, meeting new people is a great way to discover new things that I have yet to uncover about myself.
I strive to always evolve and avoid complacency, hence the reason I have already started to open myself up to new things. For example, I am currently working to perfect my body by stepping out of my comfort zone of traditional exercise, which comes naturally from my participation in football and lacrosse. I have started cross-fit training and additional strength and speed training to truly develop physically. In football, I am a Long Snapper. I have come to embrace this role, which often receives little glory. I know that to be the best Long Snapper, it involves more than just snapping a ball at practice, but rather, a total dedication to overall physical health, along with the patience and maturity that can only be found in someone who is spiritually satisfied. It is amazing to me how a healthy body can truly contribute to a healthy mind and soul, allowing me to embrace personal change and growth.
Intellectually, I enjoy school very much, however, I was craving a learning experience that was more career-oriented, hands-on, and challenging. As a result, I took up flying. I could not have imagined how intellectually and spiritually fulfilling flight could be. As a result, I feel confident and independent! In just three weeks, I will have my Private Pilot License.
My new-found physical and intellectual growth has truly awakened my spirituality. My focus is now on living in the present and being aware and appreciative of the people, opportunities, and talents I have been given. I am keenly aware of and hyperfocused on what matters most- family, love, character, respect for oneself and others, and a sense of gratitude for the gift of life and all the beauty that comes along with it! In the end, my willingness to take on new things has not only made me a better high school student but a better human being!

The dream version of my future self would include a successful career as a commercial pilot, and ultimately, later in my career, using my journalism skills to become an Aviation correspondent for a national news organization.
McClendon Leadership Award
I have often heard my mother say, "If you are not setting out to be the best- in your sport, in school, as an employee, or in whatever you are doing, if the best is not your goal- you are doing a tremendous disservice to yourself and others!" That mantra has stuck with me, particularly when it comes to my participation and leadership in athletics. Maturity and time have enabled me to understand the meaning of that statement and its impact on my actions. In conversations about my participation in Lacrosse (Varsity Goal Keeper), Football (Varsity Long Snapper), and Cross-Fit, my mother would often say, "Gus, while you are sitting here, someone is out there training and practicing- perfecting their gaming! There will always be someone stronger or even more talented- however, you will derive your sense of accomplishment and fulfillment by being the person who works harder and sacrifices the most. The sacrifice, challenges, and hard work you put in now is what sets you apart and opens doors of opportunity for you in the future and beyond."
At a certain stage in my life, I would listen, but not necessarily translate that into action. Now, as a high school junior, it has all become abundantly clear to me. It was not merely words, but a mindset, which personifies the discipline and commitment necessary to lead. It also showed me how much we need other people to accomplish goals and to find success in life and on the field. Without this guidance, direction, and modeling from my mother, I would never have had that epiphany. Perhaps, I would have gone through high school ignorant of what it takes to set yourself apart, content with being mediocre. This advice not only helped to shape my work ethic but also showed me the power and inspiration others can have in your journey to success. It fostered my idea of what being a good leader was all about. Leadership is more than just an individual desire, but rather, a holistic mindset comprised of individual goals and relentless dedication, but also a desire to use your actions and philosophy as a vehicle for supporting, encouraging and inspiring others.
This mindset is not insular, nor is it restricted only to my participation in sports; however, it is a lesson for all areas of life-academic, career, and other pursuits. Martin Luther King once said, “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” This quote perfectly amalgamates my ideology of leadership. Leaders are not created by what they say or how they impose their power over others. Leaders are created through an unrelenting desire to work hard and pursue excellence, regardless of the task. True leaders model excellence in all endeavors, hoping to set a standard and raise the bar for others.

Perhaps, I would have gone through high school ignorant of what it takes to set yourself apart, content with being mediocre. This advice not only helped to shape my work ethic but also showed me the power and inspiration others can have in your journey to success. It personified what being a good teammate was all about. It's more than just the game itself or individual pursuits, but rather, a holistic mindset comprised of individual goals and relentless dedication, but also a desire to use your actions and philosophy as a vehicle for supporting, encouraging and inspiring your teammates.
This mindset is not insular, nor is it restricted only to my participation in Lacrosse, Football, and Cross-Fit; however, it is a life lesson that can be applied to academics, career, or other pursuits. Martin Luther King once said, “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” This quote perfectly amalgamates my ideology of commitment, teamwork, and discipline, necessary in all facets of life.
In closing, Calvin Coolidge once said, “All growth depends on the activity. There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work!” Yes, training and dedication are pivotal. They reveal a commitment to oneself and one’s team. Yet, there also needs to be mindfulness that actions and work ethic do not serve in achieving one particular goal but will be the foundation for all that you will do in life, in turn, shaping your integrity, commitment, and leadership, which are the qualities that inspire and influence others. As a result, the example I set will empower and motivate other teammates, colleagues, or friends to perhaps emulate that same level of determination and drive- which in the end, benefits not only the individual who is setting the standard but magnifies the collective capacity of the team!

I have often heard my mother say, "if you are not setting out to be the best you are doing a tremendous disservice to yourself and others!" Maturity has enabled me to better understand and value the meaning. Additionally, she would follow up with, "Gus, while you are sitting here, someone is out there training, practicing, or studying- perfecting their game or knowledge! You will derive your sense of fulfillment by working harder and sacrificing the most. Combined that with a sense of service to others, and that is what will set you apart and open doors of opportunity."
By June 2023, I will have obtained my private pilot license. Beginning in September of 2023 and throughout my Senior year, I will be taking part in an Internship through Ocean Aviation at the Georgetown Airport in Delaware. Simultaneously, I have been researching and visiting Colleges and Universities that offer my desired dual major (Professional Pilot and Aviation Management) and minor in Journalism.

Math has always been a subject that has been of interest to me. Early on, I was content and felt confident in doing the work. I assume this originated from the strong foundation I had with the basic skills of addition, subtraction, and multiplication. These core skills, which were taught and practiced daily, served as the keystone for the future understanding of many complex principles. Those skills also catalyzed my continued interest and confidence as I experienced a sense of satisfaction and motivation through the successful completion of work and the introduction of new concepts.
However, as I progressed into middle school, and the challenges and rigor of the math content became greater, I did not have the original zeal I once felt. Math became a cumbersome task, often leading to frustration and long hours of work. Perhaps because it challenged me to think differently, or maybe because I did not easily acquire mastery of the content as I once did, Math became mundane and at times, something I would wish to avoid.
Yet, as with many aspects of my life, time and maturity have truly been my greatest gift. With maturity and cognitive development, not to mention exposure to some incredible educators, I have come to understand the "how and why" behind processes. I have come to respect and appreciate the art of abstract thinking associated with many mathematical concepts. Further, I have also learned to embrace the productive struggle, which requires the patience and determination necessary to reach mastery of a mathematical concept. I no longer feel defeated when at first, I don't understand a theory or procedure. As a result, I have taken control of my learning, and in turn, now understand the value of practice and the importance of asking questions and working collaboratively to reach a solution.
In the end, the study of math has empowered me with tremendous life skills, which are required not only in a mathematics classroom but in all areas of life. The ability to methodically consider situations, problem solve, execute fortitude and perseverance, self-advocate, think critically, and collaborate are just a few of those skills. A new foundation for success in life has been paved for me through the acquisition of these secondary skills derived from the study of Mathematics, similar to, or perhaps even greater in outcome and purpose than those original fundamentals embedded in me so many years ago!

I could always sense apprehension and fear from my mother. Why it was happening, I could not articulate, but it was there. Eventually, I discovered the origin of it. My father is an alcoholic. He was arrested for D.U.I. on four separate occasions. He even spent time- on work release- in jail for an entire year. Regardless, his dependence and indulgence continued and even intensified. The degree and strength of this consumption increased from beer to hard alcohol- perhaps because this was easier to hide! His addiction and dependence were stronger than ever- so much so that alcohol was more important than his child's safety. Consequently, my parents ultimately divorced. Reluctantly, my mother was mandated to share partial custody with my father. While I was in his care on weekends, I knew my mother was scared. She would repeatedly ask if I was being properly cared for under his supervision- things like- Was I warm at night? Did he take time to feed you? And more importantly, was he driving safely in the car?
Over time, I realized her fears were justified. Alcohol was the main priority- not me. His actions were so reckless that he was drinking while driving with me in the car- so intoxicated that we had many close calls on the road. Ultimately, my mother was granted a Protection from Abuse Order. I believe this experience did jolt him. The tendencies and dependency are still powerful.
I now realize this experience may have been a gift! My mother is all about me-setting high expectations, exposing me to amazing opportunities academically and athletically, teaching me, coaching me, showing me the how and why behind all life situations, sacrificing time and resources, and tirelessly working to support me. As a result, I am thriving. I have taken five advanced placement classes and four college courses over the last two years. I am ranked in the top 9% of my class with a 4.2 weighted G.P.A. and have recently become a member of the National Honor Society. I am the starting Long Snapper and backup quarterback for our Varsity football team and also the Goalie for our High School Lacrosse team. In my spare time I enjoy CrossFit training, working my part-time job in sales, and most importantly pursuing my private pilot license, which I will complete this May.
This experience helped to shape my work ethic but also showed me the power and inspiration others can have in your journey to success. It fostered my idea of what being a good person was all about. More importantly, it made me grateful and humble. I value my relationship with my mother because she has personified what it means to live a good life, set goals, work hard, passionately pursue opportunity, and love your child with all your heart. She has always said to me, “if you are not setting out to be the best- in your sport, in school, as an employee, or in whatever you are doing, if the best is not your goal- you are doing a tremendous disservice to yourself. The sacrifice, challenges, and hard work you put in on the front end is what sets you apart and opens doors of opportunity for you on the back end". Because of this, in so many aspects of life, I am way ahead of the game- but I think most importantly, even at 17, I know and value of what true love and relentless dedication from a parent should be, which is something I hope to emulate in my future relationships as a spouse, parent, and friend!

The science of flight and operational components of aviation management, along with my ongoing growth and mindfulness are shaping my integrity and desire to serve others. The aviation industry serves many purposes- whether for well-being, enrichment, or career, it is a major force in people’s lives. It is relied upon so greatly that our nation has come to a standstill because of its dependence on the industry. I am eager to contribute to the economic, industrial, and social significance this profession has on society and apply management and business skills to problem solve and creatively develop solutions to perfect operations and the overall flight experience. Furthermore, I am humbled by the privilege of having passengers bestow their faith and trust in me. The stakes are high and the responsibility to others requires unwavering resilience and focus. As once ingrained in me- “if you are not setting out to be the best, you are doing a disservice to yourself and others!” Truer words have never been spoken, nor have they been as relevant as they will serve to be in my professional role in aviation. A degree is costly. I would like to pay for my degree without burdening my family. Including flight fees, costs range from $150,000 to $175,000. I do not wish to take shortcuts in my pursuit. I want to acquire as much knowledge and experience as necessary to serve the industry to the best of my ability. Obtaining my degree would make that goal become a reality. Scholarship support and investment in my education would be met with a level of gratitude that would forever inspire my work, and in turn, empower me to make the industry better for all!

Generational wealth comes in many forms. My family is not necessarily wealthy; however, they have and continue to save to invest in my future education. Their goal is for me to enter college focused on pursuing my dream of becoming a Commercial Pilot. It is a priority for my family that I am empowered with energy, enthusiasm, and a diligent desire to engage and devote myself to my studies, as opposed to being stifled, limited, or overly preoccupied with worries about how I will pay for my education or the insurmountable debt that I may incur. The foundation of generational wealth for them has been to create a path, which is unincumbered, allowing me to thrive academically, and in turn, pursue the career of my dreams, allowing me to be both professionally and financially independent.
In seeing my mother's total dedication to my future, her sacrifice, and her unwavering support and guidance, generational wealth has taken on a far greater and more holistic meaning for me. Yes, it includes financial investment in future generations, however, there are also other less concrete components involved, necessary to make this happen for one's child. Unconditional love, tremendous sacrifice, an all-encompassing desire to put your child before yourself, and a stoic and disciplined approach to investment and spending- not for oneself, but rather selflessness to put personal wants and needs to the side, to provide amazing opportunities and pathways for a child are the fundamental mechanisms needs to establish and provide generational wealth.
In the end, it has become clear to me that generational wealth is not merely handing over a check or some form of inheritance to a child, but rather, it is modeling and personifying what true "wealth" is. Although this does include a fiduciary component, the secondary, and often less accentuated elements, that take the form of inspiring words and encouragement, along with selfless acts of love and sacrifice are truly the greatest gifts that could be bestowed upon future generations. It is those actions that serve as the catalyst for generational wealth.
Of course, generational wealth includes a financial investment in my future! Yet, my willingness and desire to continue to extend similar opportunities to my children and future generations manifest in the fundamental inspirational and emotional components modeled and passed down to me by my mother. They are the elements that foster my desire to make the same type of financial investment in my children and future generations!

I have often heard my mother say, "if you are not setting out to be the best- in your sport, in school, as an employee, or in whatever you are doing, if the best is not your goal- you are doing a tremendous disservice to yourself and others!". That mantra has stuck with me, particularly when it comes to Lacrosse. Maturity and time have enabled me to understand the meaning of that statement and its impact on my actions. In conversations about sports, but particularly Lacrosse, my mother would often say, "Gus, while you are sitting here, someone is out there training and practicing- perfecting their gaming! There will always be someone stronger or even more talented- however, you will derive your sense of accomplishment and fulfillment by being the person who works harder and sacrifices the most. The sacrifice, challenges, and hard work you put in on the front end is what sets you apart and opens doors of opportunity for you on the back end."
At a certain stage in my life, I would listen, but not necessarily translate that into action. Now, as a high school junior, it has all become abundantly clear to me. It was not merely words, but a mindset, which personifies discipline and commitment. It also showed me how much we need other people to accomplish goals and to find success in life and on the field.
