This is the first piece of my societal issues series. In this piece, I layered the stories of racial crimes and injustices with the eyes of Black Americans watching history repeat itself. I burned the edges of the paper purposely to symbolize the American system trying to forget the horrible things that happened to the Black Community throughout history. The charred edges also represent the lack of black history we are taught in the American School system, burning away the stories of people who suffered for this Land to be where it is today. I have the colors of the American Flag in the background, symbolizing the advocacy for nationalism in a nation that purposely makes it hard for minorities to succeed.

During COVID-19 I learned more about myself than I would have during a normal school year. My time at home was spent focusing on school work and self improvement. My grades were always great , but they excelled tremendously because I had time to really take in the concepts I was learning. I was not worried about what time I had to be at practice , or what meetings I had after school. I also realized my room was one of my favorite places to relax and focus. The environment of my room reflects my own personality , from the table of plants , to the wall full of faux ivy leaves , then to the corner of all my artwork , and back to my painted cow print door.
