Bio

I am very passionate about helping others in my community. Growing up in a border town allowed me to interact with many people from different backgrounds. I learned from their situations and how the environment they were stuck in affected them deeply. I now want to pursue higher education and attend law school to help those who feel stuck in their situations. I have tried my best to go and expand my knowledge in many different already, but I know that I still have more to learn.

    Bold Books Scholarship
This quarantine made many individuals pick up a book and enjoy a new world they have never seen before. One of the books I picked up was Normal People by Sally Rooney, as soon as I picked it up I couldn't set it down. I really felt a connection with it, thinking about the book right now it I remember why I really like it and why I couldn't put it down. No matter how mad I was at the actions of one of the main characters I loved that they took me through their everyday life and gave me an insight on who I don't want to become as a person. When we read books many read them because it takes them to another world, maybe it gives them an insight on a life they might have never experienced in real life. Personally this book showed me the person I am trying to avoid in life, it really showed me that no matter what I do in life I don't ever want to hurt the people around me. In my opinion that one character was really selfish and didn't care about what he said and the actions he did. I wouldn't want to be that person or surrounded myself with those types of people. Everyone gets inspired in their own different ways, this is how Normal People by Sally Rooney is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read.
    Bold Patience Matters Scholarship
As someone who takes a few extra minutes to understand a concept that others may feel is the easiest concept ever known to man, it can feel horrible. I've had many instances especially in any type of math class in which I've had the hardest time getting the hang of the solutions. I could see and feel how irritated my group was because I couldn't understand. I would feel horrible at the end of the class and would just want to leave and go home. If you have ever been in any situation like this you can understand how unsettling it can feel. Ever since those incidents of me feeling uncomfortable and down I found that having patience is really important. I wouldn't want someone else to feel like how I felt. It can bring your confidence down because you start thinking that you might be stupid and don't deserve to be in the class you are, when honestly you just need a little extra help. Always be aware of the feelings of others, you wouldn't want to feel like that either wouldn't you?

I recently started the school year and that meant that the organizations that I am part of will finally start being more active again. I am part of National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and I was previously part of The Chick-fil-a Academy but because of Covid-19 it has been hard to do anything. In all of these organizations we do as much community service as possible and it is always super fun. There is one instance in which I was doing service with The Chick-fil-a Academy at our local food pantry for a few hours. It was early November and we were filling up people's trunks with canned goods and other types of foods that they would be able use to be able to feed their families during the holidays. I saw how baldy the members of the community need help this night. There was one family that asked my partner and I if they were offering any baby food at the pantry while we were loading up their car. I saw two baby twins and a few other kids inside sitting on their car seats. I knew that they were for sure going to use what they were receiving and I instantly became worried for the babies. I decided to tell a group of friends an idea I had, it consisted of them donating some baby food items to me and I would put them all together for the kids in that family. I did just that, I contacted the family thanks through information they had provided to the ones organizing the food pantry and I delivered their new goods. Kids are always a soft spot for everybody, I honestly believe that if someone was put in the same position I was they would have also done the same thing. Their kids are a bit older now and unfortunately I have not gotten the opportunity of volunteering there again. I often think about them when others ask for help, I think about how relieved they must have felt when they saw that they didn't have to struggle to find affordable food for those babies. it really helped me understand that we should always help out those who are struggling if we can in any shape or form.
