I am very passionate about helping others in my community. Growing up in a border town allowed me to interact with many people from different backgrounds. I learned from their situations and how the environment they were stuck in affected them deeply. I now want to pursue higher education and attend law school to help those who feel stuck in their situations. I have tried my best to go and expand my knowledge in many different already, but I know that I still have more to learn.

Public Service Scholarship of the Law Office of Shane Kadlec
My interest in law stems from a deep desire to advocate for individuals who often feel unheard or overlooked within the justice system. Growing up along the U.S.–Mexico border, I witnessed firsthand how legal systems can both protect and fail communities, especially those facing economic hardship or limited access to resources. These experiences shaped my understanding of justice not just as a concept, but as something that directly impacts people’s lives, opportunities, and dignity.
This passion became more concrete during my undergraduate studies in Criminal Justice, where I began to explore how laws are created, interpreted, and enforced. I was particularly drawn to the intersection of law and social equity, understanding how systemic issues influence legal outcomes. My academic experiences reinforced my belief that the law can be a powerful tool for change, but only when it is applied with fairness, compassion, and a commitment to equity.
My internship with the Public Defender’s Office in El Paso County played a pivotal role in solidifying my decision to pursue a legal career. There, I saw the realities of the criminal justice system up close. I observed how public defenders work tirelessly to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background or financial situation, receives proper representation. This experience challenged me to think critically about due process, constitutional rights, and the importance of ethical advocacy. It also confirmed my desire to stand in spaces where I can actively defend and support those navigating complex legal challenges.
Currently, as an intern with Estrella del Paso and a Loretto Justice Fellow, I continue to engage with issues surrounding immigration, human rights, and community advocacy. This work has broadened my perspective on how law intersects with policy, national security, and humanitarian concerns. It has also strengthened my ability to communicate effectively, think analytically, and approach legal issues with both empathy and professionalism.
In addition to my practical experiences, I am pursuing a master’s degree in Intelligence and National Security, which allows me to explore law from a broader, global perspective. This academic path has deepened my understanding of how legal frameworks operate in areas such as national security, public safety, and international relations. It has also reinforced my commitment to pursuing a legal career that not only addresses individual cases but also contributes to larger systemic improvements.
Ultimately, I am pursuing a career in law because I believe in its potential to create meaningful change. I want to be part of a system that upholds justice, protects rights, and serves communities with integrity. Whether advocating for clients, shaping policy, or addressing broader societal challenges, I am committed to using the law as a tool to make a lasting and positive impact.
Tawkify Meaningful Connections Scholarship
One of the most meaningful relationships in my life has been with my dad. From a very young age, I have watched him work tirelessly to provide for our family. He began working when he was still in elementary school, long before most people even begin to think about responsibility in that way. Since I was born, I have seen firsthand the level of sacrifice, discipline, and determination it takes to keep going, even when things are difficult. His work ethic and resilience have shaped not only my perspective on life, but also the way I approach my own goals and relationships.
My dad did not have the same educational opportunities that I have today. Instead of being able to fully focus on school, he had to prioritize helping his family and working to get by. Despite this, he has always emphasized the importance of education in my life. He made it clear that while his path was different, he wanted something more for me. Growing up, he constantly reminded me that education was a tool, one that could open doors, create opportunities, and change the direction of my future. Seeing everything he sacrificed made me realize that I was not just working toward my own success, but also honoring the opportunities he never had.
What has impacted me the most is not just how hard he works, but why he works so hard. Everything he does is rooted in his commitment to our family. There were countless moments where he put his own needs aside to make sure I had what I needed to succeed, whether that meant long hours, physical exhaustion, or constant stress. Even when he was tired, he never showed it in a way that made me feel like I was a burden. Instead, he carried that responsibility with strength and quiet determination. Watching him do this taught me the true meaning of perseverance and selflessness.
Because of my dad, I have developed a strong sense of responsibility and motivation in my own life. When I face challenges, I think about everything he has gone through and remind myself that giving up is not an option. His example pushes me to keep going, especially during moments when things feel overwhelming. It is one of the main reasons I have continued to pursue my education and set higher goals for myself, including earning my degree and planning to further my studies. I carry his sacrifices with me as a constant reminder of why my education matters.
This relationship has also influenced the way I build connections with others. My dad may not always express himself through words, but he shows care through his actions. Because of this, I have learned that meaningful relationships are not always about what is said, but about what is consistently shown. I try to reflect this in my own relationships by being dependable, supportive, and present for others. Whether it is through my leadership roles, internships, or personal relationships, I make an effort to show up for people in ways that matter.
Additionally, my dad’s experiences have made me more empathetic toward others. I understand that everyone carries their own struggles, many of which are not immediately visible. This perspective has shaped the way I interact with people, encouraging me to be more patient, understanding, and open-minded. I value building genuine connections where people feel respected and supported, just as my dad has always supported me.
The relationship I have with my dad continues to shape who I am every day. His strength, sacrifice, and determination have become the foundation of my own values and goals. He has shown me that success is not given, it is earned through hard work, resilience, and the willingness to keep going even when things are difficult. Because of him, I am motivated to continue my education and build a future that reflects not only my ambitions, but also everything he has worked for.
Ultimately, my dad’s influence has taught me that relationships are built through actions, sacrifice, and consistency. The lessons he has passed on to me will continue to guide the way I approach my goals and the way I connect with others. I am who I am today because of his example, and I will continue to carry that with me in everything I do.
Christian Fitness Association General Scholarship
Growing up between El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, I learned early on that access to education is not equal for everyone. While I was fortunate to pursue higher education, I also witnessed how financial barriers can prevent hardworking and capable students from achieving their goals. Seeing friends and community members struggle to afford tuition, textbooks, and even basic necessities made me realize how fragile the opportunity to attend college can be. These experiences shaped my perspective and motivated me to continue my education despite the challenges that come with it.
I recently graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Legal Reasoning, an accomplishment that reflects not only my academic dedication but also my long-term commitment to public service. Throughout my time in college, I worked to build a strong academic foundation while developing the skills necessary to pursue a career centered on justice and advocacy. My coursework pushed me to think critically about legal systems, inequality, and the ways in which policy impacts marginalized communities. More importantly, it reinforced my desire to pursue a career where I can make a meaningful impact. I am now preparing to pursue a master’s degree in Intelligence and National Security, where I hope to further expand my knowledge and contribute to addressing complex issues that affect both local and national communities.
In addition to my academic work, I have been deeply involved in leadership and service throughout my college experience. As a Senator-at-Large in the Student Government Association, I had the opportunity to represent the student body and advocate for improvements in campus resources and student engagement. In this role, I worked to ensure that students’ voices were heard, particularly those who may not always feel represented in institutional spaces. This experience strengthened my leadership skills and taught me the importance of advocacy, collaboration, and accountability.
Serving as an Orientation Leader was another experience that had a lasting impact on me. When I first entered college, I remember feeling disconnected and unsure during orientation, which made the transition more difficult. Because of this, I made it a priority to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for incoming students. I worked closely with new students to help them feel comfortable, informed, and confident as they began their academic journeys. Being able to positively influence someone’s first experience in college was incredibly meaningful and reinforced my passion for supporting others.
My professional experiences have further shaped my commitment to justice and service. During my internship with the Public Defender’s Office, I gained firsthand insight into the legal system and observed the importance of ensuring fair representation for all individuals. This experience exposed me to the realities faced by individuals who rely on public defense and deepened my understanding of systemic inequities within the legal system. It also strengthened my desire to pursue a career where I can advocate for those who may not have the resources to advocate for themselves.
Currently, I am an intern with Estrella del Paso, where I continue to engage in work that supports vulnerable populations and addresses issues impacting my community. Through this role, I have been able to further develop my understanding of advocacy and community-based work, while contributing to efforts that aim to create meaningful change. Additionally, I am a Loretto Justice Fellow, an experience that has allowed me to deepen my commitment to social justice and equity. This fellowship has provided me with opportunities to engage in work that aligns with my values and to collaborate with others who are dedicated to making a difference.
Beyond these roles, I have remained actively involved in organizations such as IGNITE, the Chicano(a)x Pre-Law Society, and Texas Rising. These experiences have allowed me to engage in civic participation, leadership development, and advocacy efforts that extend beyond the classroom. Through these organizations, I have been able to connect with individuals who share similar goals and contribute to initiatives that promote equity and representation.
Despite my academic and extracurricular accomplishments, the financial burden of higher education continues to be a significant challenge. The cost of tuition, textbooks, and living expenses has steadily increased, making it difficult to focus entirely on my academic and professional goals. As I prepare to pursue a graduate degree, these financial barriers become even more significant. Like many students, I must carefully balance my responsibilities while navigating the financial realities of continuing my education. Without adequate support, these challenges can limit access to opportunities that are critical for growth and advancement.
This scholarship would provide essential financial support as I take the next step in my educational journey. It would allow me to focus more fully on my studies and continue my involvement in meaningful work without the constant stress of financial strain. More importantly, it would serve as an investment in my future and in the impact I hope to make. I am committed to using my education to pursue a career in public service, where I can advocate for justice, support underserved communities, and contribute to creating a more equitable society.
My journey reflects resilience, determination, and a strong commitment to making a difference. I have consistently worked to take advantage of every opportunity available to me while remaining dedicated to my goals and to my community. I understand the value of education not only as a personal achievement, but as a tool for creating change. For these reasons, I believe I am a strong candidate for this scholarship, and I would be honored to receive your support as I continue pursuing my education and working toward a future rooted in service and advocacy.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My experience with mental health has shaped the way I view myself, my goals, and the world around me in profound ways. It has taught me that success is not just about achievement, but also about balance, self-awareness, and resilience. There were moments when managing responsibilities felt overwhelming, and I had to learn how to navigate challenges while still moving forward. These experiences pushed me to develop coping strategies, seek support when needed, and better understand my own limits.
Because of this, I have become more intentional in both my personal and professional life. I now prioritize my well-being in a way that allows me to sustain my academic and career goals rather than burn out trying to meet unrealistic expectations. As a graduate student pursuing a degree in Intelligence and National Security Studies, I recognize the importance of maintaining mental clarity and emotional stability, especially in a field that requires critical thinking, attention to detail, and sound judgment. My experience has made me more disciplined and more mindful of how I manage stress.
My relationships have also been shaped by my mental health journey. I have learned the importance of communication, vulnerability, and support systems. Being open about challenges has strengthened my connections with others and allowed me to build more genuine relationships. I have also become more empathetic, understanding that everyone is facing their own struggles, even if they are not visible. This has made me more patient and supportive in my interactions with others.
In terms of my understanding of the world, my experiences have given me a deeper appreciation for the complexity of human behavior. I have learned that mental health is influenced by many factors, including environment, stress, and access to resources. This perspective has shaped how I approach situations, encouraging me to look beyond surface-level assumptions and consider the broader context behind people’s actions and decisions.
Overall, my experience with mental health has helped me grow into a more resilient, compassionate, and self-aware individual. It has strengthened my goals by reminding me that true success includes not only professional achievement, but also personal well-being and the ability to positively impact others.

These experiences have played a major role in shaping both my academic path and my long-term career goals.
Throughout my academic journey, I have remained committed to leadership, service, and community engagement. I serve as a Senator-at-Large in the Student Government Association, where I advocate for student needs and work to create policies that improve campus life and accessibility. Sharra Rainbolt Memorial Scholarship
Cancer has deeply affected my family, especially when my dad was diagnosed. His illness changed our lives in ways I never expected, not only emotionally but also financially. Before his diagnosis, my main focus was school and building my future. However, once he became sick and unable to work the same way, I had to step up and take on responsibilities that I hadn’t fully anticipated at this stage in my life.
As a full-time student, balancing classes, assignments, and extracurricular responsibilities was already demanding. Adding a part-time job to help support my family made things even more challenging. There were days when I would go straight from class to work, and then come home to help with whatever was needed, all while trying to keep up academically. It was exhausting at times, and there were moments when I felt overwhelmed trying to meet all of these expectations. However, I knew that my family depended on me, and that sense of responsibility pushed me to keep going even when it felt difficult.
Watching my dad go through cancer also changed my perspective on strength. I saw firsthand what it means to keep fighting, even on the hardest days. Despite the physical and emotional toll, he remained resilient, and that motivated me to adopt the same mindset in my own life. His perseverance inspired me to stay committed to both my education and my role in supporting my family. It reminded me that challenges, no matter how overwhelming they may seem, can be faced with determination and courage.
This experience also taught me the importance of time management and prioritization. I had to become more disciplined with how I used my time, learning how to balance work, school, and family responsibilities effectively. While it wasn’t easy, it helped me grow into someone who can handle pressure and adapt to difficult situations. I became more independent and developed a stronger work ethic because of it.
Most importantly, going through this experience brought my family closer together. We learned how to support each other not just financially, but emotionally as well. It showed me the value of being present for the people you love and the importance of stepping up when it matters most.
Although my dad’s cancer diagnosis brought many challenges, it also shaped me into a more resilient, responsible, and compassionate person. It taught me that even in the face of hardship, it is possible to rise to the occasion and continue working toward your goals while supporting those who need you most.
