I have always been fascinated with art, design, the natural world, and urban spaces which have inspired me to pursue a career in landscape architecture. My love for farming blossomed four years ago as I began working at the Urban Bowery Farm. There I learned to work with local native plants and determine which seasons and times of day to plant certain species, how much water and fertilizer they need, and where to plant them depending on how high and wide they grow. Long before my interest in the natural world developed, I had been doing fine art which involves perspective, attention to detail, and patience. In the fall of 2021, I started an online art store called Asia Rain Studios. I sold art prints and completed commissions but then began taking my originals and printing them on stickers and tote bags, creating a three-bag series revolving around nature. This experience taught me to use my resourcefulness and to problem-solve obstacles including deadlines, finances, and supply chain issues. The patience I developed through this lengthy process transferred into my academic life where I learned to dig deeper and glean a better understanding of challenging concepts. As a landscape architect, I will marry my talent for design with my love of the natural world. I will use my talents to combat climate change through restoring natural places by designing rooftop gardens that absorb stormwater, air pollution, and cool buildings. Any scholarship will help me attend a university and allow me to focus on my 3-year internship and landscape architecture exam without incurring debt.
