Growing up on a family farm, I have learned the value of hard work, discipline, dedication, and perseverance. My paternal grandfather moved to the community of Clifty, Arkansas, in the late 1950s with his family, where he and my grandmother started RockiRidge Farms, a dairy farm. In 2006, due to low milk prices, they sold the dairy cow herd and transitioned to a beef cattle operation. My father, one of eight children, joined my grandfather on the farm at a young age. When my grandfather retired, my father took over the family farm. My family and I continue to live and farm on the same land my father grew up on. I intend to use the lessons I’ve learned growing up on the farm to guide me through college and my future career.
I have chosen to pursue a double major in Agricultural Business and Agricultural Communications. Growing up on the farm has given me firsthand experience with the daily operations of farming, the financial challenges farmers face, and the importance of educating others in the community about the value of agriculture. I am passionate about using my voice to advocate for farmers and help people outside of the farming community understand why farms are essential to our society.

WinnerA verse that I refer back to often is, Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” To me, this verse means that no matter how far, hard or impossible your goals might seem, you can do it all and reach it with God. Nothing is too big or too small for God. He will guide you down your path and be with you every step of the way. This verse is a constant reminder that I don’t have to rely on my own strength or abilities alone, but can trust the power of Christ to help me overcome challenges and persevere in tough times.
I reflect on this verse often in life. One place that I use it is in softball. Being the catcher for the Lady Eagles softball team, I am a leader on the field. The role requires constant focus, determination and encouragement of my teammates. When plays or games don’t go our way, I often reflect on this verse. I remind myself that no matter the outcome, I can rely on God to give me the strength to keep going. At the end of each game, we invite the opposing team to gather arm in arm around the pitching circle and we all recite the Lord’s Prayer together. This not only strengthens my faith but also promotes unity and sportsmanship, regardless of the score at the end of the game. My faith has a lot to with my leadership abilities on and off of the softball field.
This verse also comes to mind while working on my family farm. Being raised on a farm, I have learned that there are many different trials and tribulations that come with farming. Last year, my families farm was hit by a tornado. We relied on our faith, family, and community to help get our farm back in working order.
My faith is the foundation in everything I do, and it continually reminds me that I can face any obstacle, knowing that Christ is with me. As I prepare to go to college and look ahead to the future, I plan to continue relying on my faith to guide me through any challenges. I also want to be a witness to others, sharing the hope, strength, and peace that comes from knowing Christ. My goal is to be a positive influence and to inspire those I meet to also trust in the strength that comes from God, knowing that with Him, anything is possible.
