I am a driven full-time college student, at Drury University, working towards a Biochemistry major. I am also a NCAA DII athlete and have to balance academics, athletics, clubs, and a social life. I was in the top ten percent at my high school and graduated Summa Cum Laude, from a class of around 500 students. I plan to continue my education but am not sure if I want to attend medical school or go down a different route, however, I know I want to go into the medical field in the future. I love volunteering in my community whenever I can. I am planning to work over the summer in order to help pay for my tuition but without more aid I will have to take out student loans.

Since I was a kid, I have wanted to go into the medical field. I deal with chronic migraines and want to help others to be in less pain. I want to be involved with the care of patients and do everything in my power to help make people feel better. I have volunteered in my community for as long as I can remembered and due to living in St. Louis metropolitan area, I have seen and helped those who live in great poverty. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, especially at the start, I would volunteer in my community to help bring food and supplies to those that are at the highest risk and do not have the appropriate resources. Volunteering in this kind of situation made me realize even more, just how much I want to help others. I want to help in any way that I can and feel that the medical field is where I am best suited to help.
I have been interested in science as long as I can remember. The big shift to science for me began in fifth and sixth grade when I had two amazing science teachers who began to introduce us to difference ideas. They also both ran the STEM program at my school. I remember being so excited when I learned about this program, and I immediately signed up for as much as possible. Participating in these events as one of the few females I already felt the need to make it known that I belong. I would go above and beyond in order to show that I belong in the group that was filled with guys. Once I reached middle school, I signed up to be in the Illinois Math and Science Academy academic honors group. In this program students stayed after school one day a week where we did experiments and projects to dive deeper into STEM subjects and I absolutely loved doing this and was in the program for two years. Additionally, because of this group I was able to help volunteer at the IMSA summer camp where I was able to teach students about STEM. Watching how the students reacted to the experiments made me so happy to volunteer and bring STEM to other students.
Once I reached high school, I became very focused on taking science where I discovered that I really liked both biology and chemistry. From here I knew that Biochemistry was the major for me. When applying for colleges I knew that I wanted to go to a college that had Biochemistry as a major as well as being able to lead me into the medical field. Drury University had both of these, and I absolutely love learning everything I can. Right now, I am looking into going to Physician Assistant School, but am keeping my options. The one thing I do know, is that I enjoy chemistry, biology, and helping people. I hope to have a career in which I can use my love for science to help others in any way possible.
Science is my route of being able to help those in my community that are in need. Going into the medical field would mean that I would be able to help others that desperately need the help. My goal in life is to live as though I never know when my last day will be, and to help as many people as I can in the time I have here.
