In 2015, my life changed in a way I was not prepared for. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at what felt like the worst possible time. At the same time, my job was coming to an end, my grandmother was dying, and my mother was the only one in our household still working. It felt like everything in my life was happening all at once, and I had no control over any of it. I also had to step away from school because of my treatments, which was another loss I was forced to accept. My oncologist gave my family very specific guidance. We were told not to share my diagnosis widely, to avoid large groups, and to be very careful because my immune system would be weak during chemotherapy. We followed that advice closely. We only told a small circle of people we trusted, because we did not want my health situation shared with those who might not have my best interest at heart. That decision helped protect my peace, but it also made the experience feel very isolating at times. There were days when even basic things felt uncertain. I often did not know how I would get to my treatment appointments because my mother was working long hours to keep everything going at home. We leaned heavily on a small group of friends and a few family members who stepped in without hesitation. They helped with transportation, check-ins, and support in ways that carried us through some of the hardest moments. In the middle of my second cycle of chemotherapy, my family suffered another major loss. My grandmother passed away from complications of a stroke and heart attack. She lived with us, and we were the ones by her side when she passed. That moment broke something in all of us. We were grieving her while I was still fighting for my own health. It was overwhelming, painful, and deeply emotional for our entire household. Even with everything happening at once, my family held on. We supported one another the best way we knew how. Prayer became a foundation for us. Quiet strength became our way forward. There were days we did not have answers, but we still had each other. Through this experience, I learned resilience in its most real form. I learned that strength is not about pretending everything is okay, but about continuing to move forward even when life is falling apart. I also learned how important it is to have a support system, even if it is small. A few committed people can make the difference between feeling alone and feeling carried through. Cancer affected my family deeply, but it also showed me the power of endurance, faith, and love under pressure.

The movie "Overcomer" has left a permanent impact on my perspective, influencing both my journey and the way I envision making a positive impact on the world. This film's themes of faith, resilience, and discovering one's identity have resonated deeply with me, shaping my goals, and motivating me to contribute meaningfully to my community. In "Overcomer," two individuals who have lost sight of their faith are brought together by divine intervention. As they navigate unexpected challenges, they are reminded of the presence of God working in their lives, even when they feel lost and uncertain. This resonated with me on a profound level, teaching me the significance of faith and the realization that God's plan might not always align with our initial expectations. As the coach in the movie finds himself coaching cross country despite his lack of familiarity with the sport, I learned that life's detours can lead to unexpected blessings. Just because a path doesn't match my preconceived vision doesn't mean it's not part of a greater purpose. This lesson has transformed the way I approach challenges and uncertainties, encouraging me to seek the underlying opportunities for growth and self-discovery. The movie's overarching message of finding one's identity in Christ has been a guiding light for me. It has fortified my sense of self-worth and purpose, reminding me that I am not defined by external circumstances but by my relationship with God. This newfound clarity has driven me to pursue my academic and career goals with renewed determination. My academic aspirations converge with two causes deeply ingrained in my heart: addressing the housing crisis for senior citizens and enhancing the quality of education in rural communities. Inspired by the movie's themes of overcoming adversity, I am resolute in my ambition to establish open senior assisted living homes. Drawing from my Certified Nursing Assistant experience, I provide affordable, safe, and nurturing spaces where seniors can embrace their later years with dignity and security. Simultaneously, my commitment to empowering the next generation is exemplified through my co-founding of Youth Trnn. With a mission to uplift rural youth, we aim to bridge the resource gap by offering guidance and support, enabling them to harness their potential and envision a brighter future. The film's message of perseverance and self-discovery resonates here too, motivating me to be a guiding force for these young individuals as they navigate challenges and build their identities. To achieve these goals, my college education is paramount. By studying community development, healthcare management, and education, I will arm myself with the expertise required to lead transformative change. By immersing myself in courses that foster creativity and critical thinking, I will be equipped to craft innovative solutions for complex issues. Hands-on experience gained through internships and collaborations with like-minded organizations will further deepen my understanding of the unique challenges faced by seniors and rural youth. "Overcomer" has instilled in me the courage to embrace unexpected paths, the resilience to navigate challenges, and the faith to see beyond limitations. As I move forward on this journey, I am fueled by the desire to transform the lives of seniors and youth alike. Guided by my faith and fortified by education, I am committed to creating a lasting impact that uplifts, empowers, and fosters a sense of belonging within my community.

The Transformative Power of "The Big Idea" by Donny Deutsch In a world where books serve as gateways to new knowledge and perspectives, choosing just one book to recommend to everyone is a monumental task. Among the vast array of literary works that have the potential to inspire, educate, and transform lives, "The Big Idea" by Donny Deutsch stands out as a beacon of hope, resilience, and the power of second chances. As an avid reader who has explored a multitude of literary journeys, "The Big Idea" holds a special place in my heart. It found its way into my hands at a time when I was navigating through a challenging phase in my life. Struggling with setbacks, uncertainties, and a sense of failure, I was in search of guidance that could reignite my spirit and remind me of the possibility of redemption. Donny Deutsch's story is a demonstration of the human capacity to rise above adversity and turn setbacks into stepping stones. His journey from being a dull student to facing the harsh realities of life, including being fired from his father's advertising firm, mirrored my struggles. Just like him, I had faced failures that left me questioning my worth and direction. It was in this state of vulnerability that "The Big Idea" appeared as a lifeline. The book's message of resilience, determination, and the courage to ask for a second chance resonated deeply with me. As I read about Deutsch's transformative journey, I realized that the path to success is not always a straight one. It often involves setbacks and challenges that require us to find the strength to pick ourselves up and keep moving forward. His ability to ask for another opportunity and turn it into a game-changing victory provided a spark of hope during my darkest moments. "The Big Idea" taught me that obstacles are not our identity, but it is our response to difficulty that shapes our character. Donny Deutsch's story serves as a powerful reminder that it's never too late to ask for another chance, to pursue our dreams with renewed determination, and to harness our delays as stepping stones to greater success.

Triumph Over Adversity: A Journey of Resilience and Community Empowerment Life's journey is often marked by trials that test our strength and resilience, pushing us to our limits. Five years ago, I faced a series of formidable challenges that seemed overwhelming. Yet, amid the darkness, I discovered a source of strength within myself, and through that exposure, I forged a path of compassion and community support that continues to guide my journey today. In that chaotic period, life seemed to work against me, presenting me with an embankment of setbacks that left me troubled. A sudden job loss, coupled with the physical and emotional toll of battling cancer, cast a shadow over my life. The passing of my beloved grandmother and the uncertainty of a stopped education deepened my sense of despair. As financial struggles mounted, it became an unbearable battle to make ends meet, and at my lowest point, thoughts of ending my own life began to creep in. During this darkness, an unexpected glimmer of hope emerged. A chance encounter led me to learn about families in our community who were grappling with their challenges, struggling to provide necessities for their loved ones. This revelation prompted a shift within me, a choice to rise above my pain and channel my remaining resources into a gesture of compassion. With the little I had left, I purchased groceries for those families, an act of kindness that would alter the course of my life. Hand-delivering the groceries to those in need exposed me to a world beyond my struggles. Their gratitude and warmth served as a salve to my wounded spirit, and in their stories, I found a renewed sense of purpose. The realization dawned on me that even during my trials, I possessed the ability to make a positive impact on the lives of others. This pivotal moment illuminated the strength of my empathy and the transformative power of extending a helping hand. Through this journey, I uncovered the depths of my resilience and compassion. I learned that adversity does not define us; rather, it reveals our capacity for resilience and empathy. With this newfound understanding, I resolved to focus my energy on supporting my community, using my experiences to uplift those who were struggling around me. Looking ahead, my aspirations are fueled by a deep desire to make a lasting impact on the lives of seniors in need. Building upon my Certified Nursing Assistant background, I envision the establishment of open senior assisted living homes that provide a haven of safety, support, and companionship. These homes will stand as a response to the pressing need for affordable, dignified housing for seniors facing the challenges of a rapidly changing world. By offering a space where they can thrive, engage in activities, and forge meaningful connections, these homes will reflect my commitment to nurturing a sense of belonging and community among our elderly population. My journey from misery to empowerment has equipped me with a deep understanding of the capability within hardship. It has brightened the fact that each challenge we encounter holds within it the opportunity for growth and transformation. As I work toward the realization of my vision, I am motivated by the knowledge that my experiences have empowered me to create positive change within my community. In embracing the lessons learned from my struggles, I am writing a story of resilience, compassion, and empowerment that will undoubtedly inspire others to overcome adversity and make a difference in their own lives and communities.

With a visionary, creative, and community-oriented mindset, I am driven to confront challenges and find solutions that create a positive impact on society. My unique ability to identify issues and develop innovative strategies fuels my passion to make a difference in the community. My academic and career goals align with two causes close to my heart which are addressing the lack of housing for senior citizens and improving the quality of education in rural communities. One of my primary aspirations is to establish open senior assisted living homes, utilizing my Certified Nursing Assistant experience. The need for affordable, safe, and welcoming places for seniors to reside is vital. In the face of gentrification, inflation, and challenging family situations, finding suitable housing becomes a demanding task for many elderly individuals. My vision is to create a vibrant community of homes, allowing seniors to relish their golden years with peace and security. My homes will be places where they can stroll without worries and engage in social activities, fostering a sense of belonging and fellowship. Equally compelling is my dedication to empowering the younger generation, demonstrated through my role as the co-founder of Youth Trnn. Our mission is to inspire, support, and engage rural youth in becoming productive citizens by providing the necessary guidance and assistance to realize their full potential. The youth in rural communities often face neglect, lacking access to resources that their urban counterparts enjoy. I am determined to unite the community and invest in youth, providing our firm care and support. Through mentorship, education, and encouragement, we will empower them to envision a brighter future and nurture their talents. In my pursuit of these goals, my college education will serve as a powerful tool. By acquiring knowledge and skills in areas such as community development, healthcare management, and education, I will equip myself to lead the charge for change. Engaging in courses that adoptive creativity and critical thinking will increase my ability to develop pioneering solutions to complicated problems. I plan to volunteer with organizations that share my vision, to gain valuable hands-on experience and deepen my understanding of the challenges facing seniors and rural youth. In closing, my academic and career goals revolve around my passion for addressing the needs of seniors and empowering rural youth. Utilizing my visionary, creative, and community-oriented mindset, I am determined to make a meaningful impact in the lives of these vulnerable groups. I want to use the scholarship to help further my education so that I can get my Bachelor of Science in Behavioral and Social Sciences to forge a path of empowerment, change and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
