My dad is Puerto Rican and he’s always been proud of his heritage. Growing up and seeing my dad that proud of it made me feel the same way about it, now I carry some sort of symbol of it everywhere I go. To me being Puerto Rican means everything, it is a part of me that makes me feel so connected to the land itself. I may not live in Puerto Rico but every time I visit in the summer it feels like home, it’s the one place where I’ve truly felt like I belong. Puerto Rico gives me peace a place where I can relax and be close with my family. It brings my spirits up and it makes me appreciate life so much more. To my family Puerto Rico means a lot as well it’s who we are makes us proud of our ancestors and everything that they did and all that they endured. I want to contribute to this world by letting others feel heard and make them feel like someone truly understands their point of view right or wrong they are being heard. I want to become a criminal psychologist and be face to face with criminals and understand their story, understand the way they think, and acknowledge how they feel. I’m a very empathetic person on a daily I sit and understand people’s point of view when there are going through something. Everyone says that I’m a good listener and give out great advice. I believe I do have a gift in understanding others and giving out advice so I wanna be able to use that in the future. It’s something’s that is a part of me that I highly value. My mom is the one who inspires me the most with her hard work and determination to get things done it reflects on me. My mom has endured a lot in her childhood and still now and I want to work harder to be able to give back to my mom for everything she’s been able to give me and for her to finally have peace in her life. I have her determination to succeed in all that I set myself to do. I never give up even when the path isn’t clear and even if things get tough I fight through it. I’m determined enough to want better for myself and want a good future. I also want to become a mother one day and want to have the trust of my kids them being able to talk to me about anything and me being able to understand them and let them know it’s okay and give out some advice to them. I know things will get tougher but knowing where I come from and the history of my heritage I will not disappoint. I will accomplish everything I have set out for myself and I’ll continue to be disciplined while achieving all. Helping others in an emotionally intelligent way is on of my biggest goals and can’t wait to study about it in college.
