Someone who has been truly impactful in my life is my uncle, Christian. He is an FDNY firefighter and has taught me so much through his experiences working for the City of New York. From a young age, I have looked up to him not only because of his bravery, but because of his compassion and dedication to helping others. Christian has taught me to be alert, open-minded, and, most importantly, kind and helpful. These are just some of the values he has passed on to me, but the qualities you inherit can truly make or break the community around you. The values I have inherited will help me work with my community and support others unconditionally. I have learned that being there for people is not just about doing a job, it is about truly caring for their well-being. With my dream of becoming an NYPD detective, these qualities are crucial and will strongly influence the way I serve and interact with others. They will guide my decisions and shape the kind of officer I strive to become. As a future NYPD detective, I aspire to be there for everyone, whether it’s someone facing mental health struggles, a woman who has lost her child, a father searching for his children, or families experiencing loss, confusion, or hardship. I want to be someone people can rely on during the most difficult moments of their lives. I promise to listen with empathy, to comfort with sincerity, and to protect with courage and integrity. I understand that trust between the community and law enforcement is essential, and I want to help build and strengthen that trust. It is my duty as a future NYPD officer to serve with integrity, no matter the circumstances. No community should have to fear those who are meant to protect them. No one should feel the need to hide their pain or suffer in silence just to stay safe, that is not right. Everyone deserves to feel heard, respected, and protected. It is our responsibility to serve and protect, and that is why this is my dream. I want to see communities in New York flourish without fear, to live freely and openly, without hesitation. I want people to feel safe going outside, without worrying about the individuals around them. That is my dream, and I hope those around me can feel that passion and commitment through my actions. I also hope to continue sharing the knowledge and wisdom my uncle has given me, passing it on to anyone willing to listen. As we grow—not only as a society, but as a community—I hope to see meaningful change within us. A change so powerful that fear no longer controls us. A change so deeply rooted that it frees those who feel trapped. A change for our communities, our people, our society, and our world.
