Bio

Hello! My name is Ashley Jimenez. I graduated high school in May of 2021 with an associate's degree under my belt. I am a junior at the University of Central Oklahoma majoring in Business Administration. Continuing my passion for leadership and impact, I am heavily involved in different organizations on campus. Along with being involved in different organizations, I also work for UCO's President, Patti Neuhold-Ravikumar. My purpose in life is service. I like to consider myself a servant leader. Volunteering for non-profits fills my cups because I know that I am making an impact on someone's life, even if it is just a small impact. I enjoy engaging with people of different backgrounds. As a First-Generation Hispanic, I want to inspire others that anything is possible if you truly want it and work hard enough.

Towards the end of my freshman year of high school, a local university pitched our school a program called the Early College High School Program. It was an amazing opportunity for high school students to obtain their associate's degree a week before graduating high school. The President told us it would be free, excluding books; all we had to do was take a residual ACT and score at least a twenty. I took the ACT, knowing that I had made a sixteen on my first and only test at the time. I waited two weeks for the scores. Once my school counselor handed us a slip of paper with our scores, my heart exploded once I saw my score. I went home and told my family; it was probably the first time they sighed in relief and were excited for me. I knew I had to make sacrifices and give my absolute best to receive my degree. Not only was I doing it for myself, but for my family knowing that they had to help my sister with her university expenses. Once I graduated with both my high school and college diplomas, I decided to try a new hobby that would make me extra money if I needed it. In June 2021, I started my training to earn my certification in massage therapy. I never would have thought that I would develop a passion for it. A passion to help people, either mentally or physically. I finished my certification and am now enrolled at the University of Central Oklahoma, majoring in business administration and minoring in leadership to finish my bachelor's degree. In order for me to have a positive impact in the world, I have to allow myself to start small, as in start impacting my community. Since I live in a big city, there are several nonprofit organizations that I have my eye on. Mostly on the Latino Community Development Agency. I want to be one of the voices and advocates for my fellow Hispanics in my surrounding area. I know what it is like not being heard and silenced. My little cousin is one of the reasons this organization caught my attention. Throughout his school career, he was also known as the troublemaker because of the other kids he hung out with. However, he was a very talented athlete that he took pride in. There was never a day where he was not outside playing basketball or running. Not only in sports was he talented but also in mathematics. My cousin picked up on the concepts faster than I did. However, he became mixed up with the wrong crowd in high school caused his grades to go down and his basketball and running careers to be over. I did everything I could for him to start taking school seriously because I saw his potential. He eventually dropped out a semester before graduation. I am convinced that if he hung out with good influences, he would be playing with a D1 basketball team right now. Kids like my cousin are the ones I want to help and guide to a better light. With my business and leadership background, I know I will make a positive impact locally that will soon turn national.
