Growing up, I was always fascinated by how things worked. Whether it was taking apart old electronics or even messing with my bicycle. My true passion, however, emerged when I started learning more about cars. Doing basic things such as oil changes, with being a female it has given me more confidence to have some knowledge about vehicles. I realized how transformative it was to bring something broken back to life. That moment sparked my interest in autobody work.
To pursue this passion, I enrolled in an autobody repair program in college where I am excelling in both the theoretical and hands-on aspects of the field. I am learning how to work with different materials, from sheet metal to plastics, and mastered techniques like sanding, welding, and paint blending. My favorite part of the program so far is learning the everyday process in an autobody shop. It has taught me the importance of attention to detail and how vital each step is in the process of turning a car into something extraordinary
My goal is to use my skills not only to repair and restore vehicles but to contribute to the greater good by making the industry more accessible and focused on creating long-term opportunities for the next generation.
I’m excited to continue growing in this field and contribute to a future where autobody work is not only about repairs but about making a lasting, positive impact on individuals, communities, and the world.

Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Being raised in a single-parent household at the age of 14 years old after my father had passed away has been one of the defining experiences of my life. While it came with challenges, it also shaped me into a resilient, hardworking, and compassionate individual. Watching my mother balance work, finances, and family responsibilities taught me the value of perseverance and resourcefulness. It also gave me a deep appreciation for how much a strong support system can mean in the face of adversity. These lessons continue to influence my approach to life and my vision for the future.
Growing up, I saw firsthand the sacrifices my mother made to ensure our family’s needs were met. Whether it was working long hours or finding creative ways to stretch every dollar, her unwavering determination inspired me to approach challenges with grit and optimism. I also learned the importance of empathy how to listen, support, and uplift others during difficult times. These qualities are now deeply ingrained in who I am, and they shape my goals as I move forward in life.
Although I’ve chosen to pursue a career in auto body repair, my ambitions extend beyond the technical skills I am building. I want to use my talents to make a difference in people’s lives. Auto body repair may seem like a practical trade, but it has the potential to do good in ways that might not always be obvious. A repaired vehicle can help someone return to work, visit loved ones, or regain a sense of independence. By offering affordable, high-quality service, I hope to give back to my community and support those in need.
Beyond my career, I envision a future where I can pay forward the lessons I’ve learned from my upbringing. Perhaps that means mentoring others who, like me, grew up in challenging circumstances and are searching for a path forward. I want to show them that with hard work and determination, they can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
Even if my career path evolves over time, the values I carry with me resilience, empathy, and a desire to help others will remain at the core of everything I do. Being raised in a single-parent household has shown me that life’s challenges can be a source of strength, shaping us into people who are capable of lifting others up. I am grateful for the lessons this experience has taught me and look forward to a future where I can use my talents to make a positive impact.
My goal is simply to do good in the world, no matter the scale. Whether it’s fixing a car, mentoring a young person, or simply being a source of encouragement to someone who needs it, I want to use my skills and experiences to help others move forward, just as my family’s love and support helped me.
Harry & Mary Sheaffer Scholarship
In a world that often feels fragmented, I believe that even small actions can spark significant change. My unique talents and skills in auto body repair may seem, at first glance, unrelated to fostering empathy and understanding. However, this craft has taught me lessons about patience, resilience, and connection that extend far beyond the workshop. By combining my technical expertise with my commitment to service, I aim to contribute to a global community that values understanding, collaboration, and compassion.
Auto body repair is, at its core, about restoration, about seeing potential where others see damage. Each vehicle tells a story, and the process of repairing it requires attention to detail, respect for its history, and a desire to create something whole again. These principles are deeply aligned with the idea of building an empathetic world. Just as I listen to the concerns of a customer and approach their needs with care, I strive to apply that same mindset to human interactions. I believe empathy begins with listening: understanding someone’s unique circumstances and responding with kindness and action.
As I progress in my career, I plan to leverage my skills to bring communities together. Vehicles are often a lifeline, connecting people to their jobs, families, and responsibilities. By offering accessible, high-quality services, I can help individuals regain mobility and independence, which fosters greater inclusion and opportunity. Additionally, I hope to mentor aspiring technicians, creating opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to enter the field. Sharing knowledge and empowering others is one way I can bridge gaps and promote understanding.
Beyond technical skills, my experiences have shaped me into someone who values diversity and collaboration. Growing up, I worked alongside people from various walks of life. These interactions taught me that every individual brings a unique perspective to the table, and that collaboration whether in a repair shop or a global community thrives on mutual respect and understanding. In my future endeavors, I will advocate for inclusive workplaces that celebrate diversity and prioritize the well-being of their employees.
Building a more empathetic global community requires recognizing that everyone has something valuable to offer. My contributions may begin in a repair shop, but their ripple effects can extend far beyond. By treating each person and project with care, I hope to model empathy in action. Whether it’s restoring a vehicle, mentoring a colleague, or advocating for sustainable practices, I am committed to fostering a sense of connection and shared purpose that can bring people together and build a brighter, more understanding world.

Isaac Yunhu Lee Memorial Arts Scholarship
From a young age, I was drawn to creativity and craftsmanship. I loved expressing myself through art and working with my hands to bring ideas to life. Over time, this passion evolved into a fascination with cars—machines that blend design, engineering, and personal expression. What truly inspired me to pursue custom design with automotive paint was realizing the unique potential of cars as moving canvases. They are not just vehicles that transport people; they’re an extension of identity, personality, and artistry.
My inspiration began with my admiration for custom cars and the creativity behind their designs. Whether it was bold flames on a hot rod, intricate airbrushed murals, or the mesmerizing effect of candy paint in the sunlight, I was captivated by the way paint could transform an ordinary vehicle into something extraordinary. Seeing the pride and individuality these custom designs gave their owners inspired me to explore this craft further.
What really solidified my passion was the realization that automotive painting isn’t just about aesthetics it’s about storytelling. Every custom paint job has a story behind it, whether it reflects someone’s personality, commemorates a cherished memory, or pays homage to a specific culture or time period. The idea that I could help someone tell their story through the design of their car deeply resonated with me and motivated me to develop my skills in this area.
As I started learning more about automotive paint, I was amazed by the level of precision and attention to detail required. Custom paintwork isn’t just about applying color; it’s about mastering techniques like layering, blending, and creating depth through shading and finishes. It’s about understanding how light interacts with different types of paint and how to achieve effects that leave people in awe. This combination of technical skill and artistic vision inspired me even further—it became a challenge that I was excited to take on.
Beyond the creative aspect, I was also inspired by the opportunity to create something truly unique for others. A custom design with automotive paint allows people to see their cars as more than just vehicles it becomes a reflection of who they are. Being able to bring that vision to life for someone else is incredibly rewarding and motivating.
Ultimately, my inspiration comes from the love of art, craftsmanship, and the joy of creating something meaningful. Custom design with automotive paint allows me to combine all of these passions, turning cars into works of art that can be admired, remembered, and cherished.
Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
The universe is vast, complex, and mysterious, and the pursuit of understanding it is one of the most profound and important endeavors humanity can undertake. Exploring the nature of our universe not only satisfies our innate curiosity but also deepens our understanding of existence and our place within it. From uncovering the origins of life to predicting the future of our planet, studying the universe helps us address fundamental questions that have fascinated humans for centuries.
One reason it’s so important to better understand the universe is that it drives innovation and progress. Many of the greatest technological advancements in history have come from exploring space and the cosmos. For example, satellites, GPS systems, and advancements in telecommunications stemmed from our desire to study the universe. By continuing to explore its mysteries, we unlock new ideas and technologies that can benefit humanity in ways we can’t yet imagine.
Additionally, understanding the universe provides us with a greater appreciation for the interconnectedness of life. The discoveries of astrophysics and cosmology remind us that we are all made of "star stuff"—the elements that compose our bodies were forged in the cores of ancient stars. This profound realization fosters a sense of unity and awe, encouraging us to view ourselves as part of a larger, interconnected whole. Such a perspective can inspire greater care for our planet and empathy for one another.
In pursuing this understanding, one concept I hope to employ is interdisciplinary thinking. The mysteries of the universe cannot be solved by any single field of study. By combining physics, mathematics, engineering, biology, and even philosophy, we can take a more holistic approach to unraveling cosmic questions. Collaboration between diverse perspectives and disciplines is essential to generating new ideas and solutions.
Another key idea I believe in is the importance of accessibility in science. Understanding the universe should not be reserved for experts alone it is something that should inspire and empower everyone. I hope to contribute to efforts that make complex scientific concepts understandable and engaging for people from all walks of life. Through education, storytelling, and innovative communication, we can spark a love for science in future generations, ensuring that the quest to understand the universe continues to thrive.
Ultimately, seeking to understand the nature of the universe is about more than just science it is about humanity’s enduring spirit of discovery. It reminds us that we are part of something far greater than ourselves, and that through curiosity, collaboration, and innovation, we can uncover truths that unite us all.
Elijah's Helping Hand Scholarship Award
Mental health and suicide have significantly impacted my life, shaping the way I view myself, others, and the importance of emotional well-being. These experiences have been both deeply challenging and transformative, teaching me about resilience, empathy, and the need to break the stigma surrounding mental health struggles.
There have been moments in my life when I, or those close to me, have faced the weight of mental health challenges. Whether it was personal struggles with anxiety and self-doubt or watching someone I care about wrestle with depression, these experiences have left a lasting imprint on me. At times, the feeling of being overwhelmed by life’s challenges made it hard to see a way forward, but through seeking help, leaning on loved ones, and taking small steps toward healing, I learned that there is always hope, even in the darkest moments.
One of the most difficult experiences I’ve faced was losing someone I knew to suicide. That loss was a profound reminder of how silent and hidden mental health battles can be. It opened my eyes to how important it is to truly listen, support others, and let them know they’re not alone. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the depth of what they were going through, and that taught me a valuable lesson: never underestimate the power of kindness, connection, and simply being present for others.
These experiences have shaped how I approach my own mental health and how I interact with others. I’ve learned the importance of reaching out for support, whether it’s through friends, family, or professionals, and I’ve realized that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. I’ve also become more attuned to the struggles of those around me, making it a priority to check in with people and let them know they are valued and loved.
Looking forward, I want to use my experiences to make a positive impact. Whether it’s by creating a supportive work environment in my career or helping to raise awareness about mental health, I feel a responsibility to contribute to breaking the stigma. I believe that sharing our stories and being vulnerable can open doors for understanding and healing not just for ourselves but for others, too.
Ultimately, while mental health and suicide have brought pain into my life, they have also taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of human connection. These lessons have made me more empathetic and committed to being a source of encouragement and hope for others.

Philately, the study of postage stamps, is a hobby that not only offers a unique way to explore history, culture, and art, but also teaches valuable skills such as patience, attention to detail, and organization. To encourage young people to pursue this hobby, I would highlight how philately connects them to a larger world. Each stamp tells a story, whether it’s about the country it represents, a historical event, or a cultural tradition. I’d recommend starting with a collection of stamps from different countries, which could spark an interest in learning about geography and history. Additionally, joining a stamp club or attending philatelic events can help young collectors connect with others who share the same interest, fostering a sense of community. By framing philately as an engaging and educational hobby that also promotes cultural exploration, I believe young people will be inspired to discover the joy and satisfaction that come with collecting and studying stamps.

From a young age, I’ve been fascinated by the transformation of damaged or worn-out vehicles into something functional and beautiful again. David Hinsdale Memorial Scholarship
I am a hardworking, determined individual with a passion for the automotive industry, particularly in auto body repair. From a young age, I was fascinated by cars and how they could be transformed through skill, creativity, and effort. Over time, this interest grew into a career path as I realized how much I enjoy working with my hands and solving problems. Enrolling in an auto body repair program has been a defining step in my journey, equipping me with the technical knowledge and hands-on experience to pursue my goals.
Beyond my career aspirations, I deeply value the idea of giving back and making a positive impact on my community. As I have grown personally and professionally, I have learned how interconnected our lives are and how even small acts of service can ripple outward to create meaningful change. My goal is to use the skills I’m developing in my trade to contribute to my community in ways that go beyond repairing vehicles and provide excellent customer service.
One way I plan to make an impact is by offering affordable, high-quality auto body services to those in need. Many people rely on their cars to go to work, care for their families, and live their lives, yet not everyone can afford costly repairs. Recovery is more than just the absence of addiction it is a process of reclaiming my life, my purpose, and my identity. To me, recovery means rebuilding what was lost and discovering new strengths along the way. It’s about progress, not perfection, and embracing each day as an opportunity to grow and move forward.
At its core, recovery is about freedom. Addiction once controlled my choices and clouded my mind, but recovery has given me the clarity to take control of my life again. It means learning how to face challenges without relying on substances, finding healthier ways to cope, and recognizing my worth beyond my past struggles. Recovery isn’t just about saying no to addiction it is about saying yes to a better, fuller life.
Recovery has also taught me the importance of connection. It’s not something I could do alone. The support of family, friends, and recovery communities has been vital to my journey. Recovery, for me, means being vulnerable enough to ask for help and strong enough to offer it to others when they need it.
Most importantly, recovery is about hope. It’s about believing that change is possible, even in the face of setbacks. It’s a commitment to keep striving for a life filled with purpose, passion, and peace. For me, recovery is not just a destination it is a lifelong journey that I am proud to embrace every single day.

My journey with addiction is a story of struggle, transformation, and hope. It’s a path I wouldn’t wish on anyone, yet one that has shaped me into the person I am today—stronger, wiser, and more determined to live a meaningful life. My experiences have taught me the value of resilience, self-awareness, and the power of education to create change, both for myself and for others.
At its worst, addiction felt like being trapped in a cycle I couldn’t escape. I didn’t fully realize how much it had taken over my life until I started losing the things I valued most: trust, relationships, and my sense of self-worth. Addiction had a way of isolating me, making me feel like I was fighting a battle alone. It wasn’t just the substance; it was the emotional weight and shame that came with it.
The turning point came when I realized how much my choices were not only hurting me but also the people I cared about. I remember looking in the mirror one day and barely recognizing the person staring back. It was a wake-up call—a moment when I knew I couldn’t continue down the same path. With the support of family, friends, and a recovery program, I took my first steps toward sobriety. Those early days were some of the hardest I’ve ever faced, but they also marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
Since becoming sober, my life has transformed in ways I never thought possible. Sobriety has given me the clarity and focus to pursue goals that once seemed out of reach. I’ve rediscovered my passions, including my love for working with my hands and solving problems, which led me to study auto body repair. This trade has given me a sense of purpose and accomplishment, as I can see the tangible results of my efforts. It’s more than a career; it’s a symbol of the new life I’ve built.
I want to use my education and experiences to help others who are struggling. By sharing my story, I hope to show that recovery is possible and that there is a way forward, no matter how hopeless things may seem. In the future, I hope to mentor others, whether through volunteering with recovery programs or creating a supportive work environment in my field. I want to be an example of how hard work and determination can turn even the darkest moments into opportunities for growth.
Addiction was a difficult chapter in my life, but it doesn’t define me. What defines me is my commitment to sobriety, my passion for learning, and my desire to help others achieve their own transformation. Through education and perseverance, I’m building a life that reflects the strength and hope I’ve gained along the way.

My journey has been shaped by resilience and growth, both of which stem from my personal experiences with mental illness and its effects on my family. I am someone who values hard work, creativity, and the ability to overcome challenges—qualities I’ve developed while navigating the complexities of mental health in my life.
Mental illness has touched my family in significant ways, teaching me lessons about compassion, patience, and the importance of seeking support. Watching a loved one struggle with depression and anxiety was not easy. It affected the dynamics of our home, sometimes creating tension or feelings of helplessness. However, it also strengthened my sense of responsibility and empathy. I learned how to support others while maintaining my own well-being, a balance that is often difficult but essential.
Personally, I’ve faced my own challenges with mental health. There were moments when anxiety felt overwhelming, making it hard to focus on school or pursue my goals with confidence. Yet, these experiences have made me stronger. I’ve learned to recognize the importance of self-care, open communication, and asking for help when needed. Therapy and other resources have given me tools to manage my mental health, and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made.
These experiences have profoundly influenced my outlook on life. They’ve shaped my goals and career aspirations, particularly in the field of auto body repair. Working with my hands and seeing tangible results gives me a sense of accomplishment and focus that helps ground me. Mental illness has also given me a greater appreciation for the importance of community and connection. I’ve realized that everyone faces challenges, even if they’re not visible, and that kindness can make a tremendous difference. This understanding has strengthened my relationships with family and friends, as I strive to create a supportive environment for those I care about.
While mental illness has presented challenges, it has also been a source of growth and self-discovery. It has taught me the value of perseverance, the importance of empathy, and the power of seeking help. These lessons drive me to build a future that reflects resilience and purpose. I am committed to using what I’ve learned to not only better my own life but also to support others who may be facing similar struggles.
Through hard work and determination, I am confident that I can achieve my goals while fostering a life that prioritizes mental health and compassion. This journey has shaped who I am today, and I am grateful for the strength and perspective it has given me.

My experience with anxiety has been a challenge, but it has also been a significant part of shaping who I am today. Anxiety has taught me resilience, self-awareness, and the importance of finding healthy ways to manage stress. There were times when I felt overwhelmed by self-doubt or the pressure to succeed, but I’ve learned to turn those feelings into motivation. I’ve developed tools to overcome obstacles, like breaking tasks into smaller steps, staying organized, and reminding myself of the bigger picture when things feel difficult. At times, it has made even simple tasks feel overwhelming, as my mind tends to overthink every detail or anticipate the worst outcomes. This has affected my confidence, sometimes making me second-guess my abilities or hesitate to take risks. One of the most significant ways anxiety has impacted me is in how I approach challenges. Instead of diving into problems head-on, I’ve had to learn strategies to break tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. It has also pushed me to focus on time management and organization, as feeling prepared is one of the ways I calm my nerves and build confidence.
Living with anxiety has also given me a deeper sense of empathy for others. I understand how important it is to approach situations with patience and compassion, whether it’s with family, friends, coworkers, or customers in a future career. It’s made me more committed to creating positive interactions and environments, whether I’m working on a team or helping someone through a stressful situation.

For me, earning a degree in autobody repair is not just about learning technical skills; it’s about proving to myself that I can overcome challenges and accomplish something meaningful. It’s a chance to turn my passion for fixing and restoring cars into a career that I can be proud of—a career where I can help others and make a difference in their lives.
Additionally, earning this degree will open doors to opportunities that I wouldn’t have otherwise. It’s a way to secure a stable future, provide for myself and my family, and eventually work toward my long-term dream of owning an autobody shop. Having this degree will give me the knowledge, confidence, and credibility I need to succeed in an industry that I’m passionate about.
My journey with anxiety has taught me that growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone, and pursuing this degree is a step I’m excited to take. It’s about building a life and career that not only brings me fulfillment but also allows me to help others, whether it’s through restoring their vehicles or inspiring others to pursue their own dreams despite challenges.
Ella's Gift
I have suffered with anxiety and depression most of my life. My brother had committed suicide when I was five years old, my father passed away from a stoke when I was fourteen years old, and my mother had passed away in a car accident when I was twenty-two. I had turned to alcohol and drugs for many years to cope with the grief, depression and the anxiety I was feeling. I was in survival mode for most of my life.
I have got multiple DUI's I had been to two different outpatient treatment centers, but I still continued to use. On my second DUI I made every excuse in the book to keep using. I quit going to treatment, and my probation officers put out an agents warrant for my arrest. I went to jail, and I had my probation revoked. After I returned home from jail, I sold my house I was already two months behind on my mortgage payment because drinking and drugs was more important. It was very chaotic; I had no plan on what I was going to do. My thoughts were either I sell it or lose it. Two months later I had received my third DUI it was a felony. I got accepted into a diversionary court; it was a very hard program. I had a curfew, I had to check in with my probation officer every night, attend four to five classes of outpatient treatment with random urinalysis drug testing, attend four A.A. (alcoholic anonymous) meeting a week, and maintain a full-time job.
I have completed the program successfully and I am not longer a convicted felon. I am eight hundred and seven days clean and sober. The program taught me resilience and to love my self again. My life today is so much better. I am happy now, I enjoy waking up and facing the next day, when in the past I honestly did not care if I lived or died. I have motive to help others that are struggling with substance abuse, and I will always be in their corner if someone is being rude or judging an addict and stand up for them, only because I know how it feels and if you are willing to make a change recovery is possible.
I still stay connected with my peers from my diversionary court program that are still in the program and attend the alumni events they hold each month, to show that recovery is possible after graduation. I still attend A.A. as well. I also talk to people that are new in recovery hoping I can give them the strength and hope that I had received myself. I have explained to multiple people it is not an easy journey, but it gets better it never gets any worse.
While being in recovery I have gained my self-confidence back. I knew when my program was coming to an end, I still needed to keep myself busy, so that was when I applied at Idaho State University for the Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing program. I wanted something better for myself, as I was currently working at a hotel doing housekeeping living paycheck to paycheck. I am motivated to build a successful future for myself. This program sparked my interest because I am a hands-on learner, and I love cars. While being in school, touring different shops and seeing how my instructors and other people that are in the industry are passionate about the field, that motivates me even more to do better and to gain the most knowledge I can while attending school. After completing my education in autobody repair, my immediate plan is to move out of state and work in a professional autobody shop where I can apply the skills I’ve learned and continue to grow through hands-on experience. Working in a real-world setting will allow me to refine my techniques, learn from seasoned professionals, and become proficient in handling various repairs, customizations, and advanced restoration projects.

Beyond technical skills, I plan to give back to my community by offering affordable services, mentoring young people interested in automotive careers, and promoting sustainable repair practices.
I would like to form strong, personal relationships with the customer. When people entrust their vehicles to professionals, they are not just looking for a repair—they’re seeking someone they can trust. This sense of community builds loyalty and fosters positive relationships between customers and local businesses. As a reliable, trustworthy technician who will provide high-quality work I will make a significant impact on the customer’s life by giving them peace of mind and building a strong, lasting relationship. I can be able to take pride in the positive impact I have on customers' lives by offering high quality service and support during challenging times, like after an accident. Showing empathy to customers is crucial when working in the automotive repair industry. I have been in a couple accidents throughout my life it is devastating, stressful, and for some even traumatic.
For individuals involved in accidents, the repair of their damaged vehicle can help with emotional healing. Seeing their car restored can symbolize moving forward, giving them peace of mind and reducing the mental burden of the incident. A repaired vehicle allows them to regain their mobility and independence, whether it’s for commuting, family needs, or simply everyday activities. For many, their vehicle is essential to getting to work or other vital places. Through autobody repair, a person’s ability to maintain their livelihood and carry on with daily tasks is restored.

I have been passionate about cars my whole life. As a child we had multiple cars as I was growing up. I was always interested in how they operated, but as time has gone on, I have become more in love with the paint jobs that are done on vehicle. I attended the lowrider supershow last summer and that had driven my passion for paint on vehicles even more. One of the most rewarding aspects of working in the autobody industry is the ability to transform something damaged into something new, functional, and beautiful again. Whether it's repairing a car that holds sentimental value to its owner or restoring a vehicle after an accident, autobody work is deeply fulfilling because you’re not just fixing metal—you’re restoring someone's confidence, pride, and peace of mind. My objective is to build a successful career in the automotive repair and autobody industry. I aim to master advanced collision repair techniques, paint restoration, and modern vehicle diagnostic technologies to provide high-quality service to customers. To secure a position as an autobody technician where I can apply my skills in collision repair and painting, while gaining hands-on experience and expanding my expertise in the latest automotive technologies. To excel as a professional autobody technician by mastering advanced repair techniques and staying updated with evolving industry trends. My goal is to deliver high-quality workmanship and exceptional customer service while contributing to a team-oriented environment.
As a dedicated individual pursuing a career in the autobody repair industry, I face financial barriers that make it challenging to achieve my educational and professional goals. The cost of tuition, tools, materials, and certifications essential for hands-on learning in this field exceeds my current financial capacity. Additionally, balancing part-time work with my studies limits my ability to fully fund my education.
Receiving this scholarship would alleviate the financial strain and allow me to focus on acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in autobody repair. It would help cover critical expenses such as specialized tools and training programs, enabling me to complete my education and advance toward my career objective of becoming a skilled autobody painter and technician.
