Bio

I am looking to obtain training and certification as a surgical technician. I have worked in an orthopedic office as the surgery scheduler and currently work as an endoscopy technician in my small town hospital. Being able to work in the hospital setting, I see many options that would give me a chance to grow and cement my career in healthcare. I have always been interested in medicine but never had the confidence to pursue it until now. It has been almost ten years since I graduated from Mansfield University with a degree in Graphic Design. The idea of going back to school now with also having to work full-time is a daunting aspect. Still, I am excited by the possibilities having a surgical technician certification could provide me! To support myself financially, I work full-time with a part-time job at my local library. I enjoy reading so working in a library is no hardship. Of course, working two jobs leaves me with limited time for myself but it is necessary if I want to pay my bills and save for a house. Paying for college with scholarships would ease my mind about going back to school at this stage in my life. I have two cats that fill my apartment with so much joy and life. They are a mother and son, she came to Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries as a young, pregnant cat who had evidence of physical abuse. I have volunteered at the shelter and have donated many times to them because they help so many animals find great homes and provide great medical care to the abused ones.

Music and reading are my escapes from reality. I enjoy The Beatles and fantasy novels because I love imagining the stories they are painting. I listen to music whenever possible, I find it very motivating especially when I am cleaning or engrossed in a large project. It can also flip my mood from listening to sad songs to more upbeat songs so I end up dancing in my kitchen. I have seen many readers on social media describe reading as living a thousand lives. When my life is not exciting or stressful, escaping into another life is refreshing and invigorating. It helps to pull me back to center and prioritize my responsibilities. I would be lying if I said I did not enjoy spas and massages. Although I cannot afford it often, I love a good massage to ease my aches and pains. They also work to empty my mind of unhealthy and unproductive feelings because I feel so good afterward.
    Pet Lover Scholarship
I have two cats, Penny Lane and Ziggy Stardust, who are my everything. They bring so much life and love to my apartment with their crazy antics and cuddles. They are actually mother and son and cuddle so much that it makes my heart full. They hold me accountable when I am not home enough and also when their food dish is low by their standards. I know they help with my mental health and cheer me up when I am sad and feeling low. Pets, cats especially in my experience, have such big personalities! They are entirely their own person and have their likes and dislikes which is like having children. They know my schedule and rush to the window when I pull into the driveway. They greet me at the door. They know when I have to get up in the morning and my routine. It is such a joy to have two sweet and loving cats waiting for me at home.

I would use the thousand dollars in one of two ways. The first I would put solely towards my fall semester tuition, obviously. I am not able to pay outright for college tuition so this would be a big help to lessen my student debt loan for the associate's degree I am pursuing. The second would be to put in savings towards a downpayment on a house. I am currently renting but would like to become a homeowner for more space and peace of mind. My landlord is in his early eighties and could possibly decide that being a landlord is too much for him anymore. Perhaps the new owner would decide that they do not wish to rent to me anymore or that I would have to get rid of my cats. Neither is a desirable option for me as I have nowhere else to live and could never get rid of my cats. They bring so much joy to my life. In order to qualify for a home loan with my bank, I need at least a five to ten percent downpayment. A thousand dollars would be very helpful in either respect and would greatly ease my financial burden.
Lo Easton's “Wrong Answers Only” Scholarship
    1) I do not deserve this scholarship. I have done nothing of merit such as volunteering extensively or being actively involved with various clubs and charities. I am an average person who works two jobs to support herself financially. I am asking for scholarships because I cannot financially foot another college bill as I still have student loan debt from my first degree. 2) My career goal is to obtain my associate's and certification in Surgical Technology so I can elevate myself on the professional ladder at work. By doing so I will be able to increase my pay and pay back my car loan while affording a mortgage. 3) I have been fortunate in my life by having a very supportive family that I have not had many obstacles. My parents and grandparents have always been by my side as I tackled college for the first time, started working full-time, and as I had begun my life independent of them.
    Bold Goals Scholarship
I am pursuing an associate's and certification as a Surgical Technician in the Fall. I currently work both full-time and part-time jobs to support myself financially. By obtaining this certification, I will be able to climb the professional ladder in my career and further grow and develop as a person. My full-time job is as an Endoscopy Technician at my local hospital. When I have to complete my clinical hours, I will be able to do so at the hospital. I am lucky to have supportive coworkers and supervisors who will work with my schedule as I begin school. I will not be able to attend school if I cannot work full-time to pay my bills. After I have obtained my certification, I will be promoted to the operating room. Scholarships will help ease my financial burden as the cost of living, for example, groceries, gas, and mortgage rates, are rising everywhere.
