Rudy J. Mazzetti Culinary Arts Scholarship
Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to make sure that I left a positive impression and impact as I possibly could to everyone I meet, and as I was reading up on Mr. Mazzetti, I was reminded why I aimed to do so. Especially in the world of today, there are millions out there that could use a helping hand, and if that person was from me, that hand it'd be followed by a warm bowl of soup, a full stomach, and a few laughs. But unfortunately, I'm not able to succeed this task alone and without support, so that's where this essay, and furthermore this scholarship, comes to help that goal.
I am currently a student at SRJC, but also a full-time employee at Safeway. While the pay of fulltime supported my goals and I was able to both afford and attend my current school life, hours have been getting harder to accumulate and now I'm between a rock and a hard place of whether I should take a brief break from college, and putting my goal at a halt, or pursue better jobs that can accommodate my big, utopian goal. I am currently doing everything to aim for the latter, but that comes with a bunch of financial issues, and while I do ultimately have support from family and loved ones, I mainly cover the finances by myself and fully rely on a healthy flow of decent pay and lots of work hours, that of which I've been struggling to maintain at Safeway for two months and counting. I do have a couple jobs lined up that will help maintain a flow of income, but the period in between switching jobs is too long in regards to affording my dorm rent, class fees, and other life expenses.
That is why I came to this scholarship, in hopes that if i win this, I can securely afford my expenses while transferring myself to better employment to pursue my ultimate goal: To make sure that everyone, whether that be the downtrodden and the homeless, or the family of four looking for a great meal and the fondest memories, can come to a common place where they are all provided for with affordable and nutritious meals, as well as a sense of belonging and community in a world that so desperately seems to be dividing itself more and more.
