Kristie's Kids - Loving Arms Around Those Impacted By Cancer Scholarship
Memory updated I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather and the challenges you've faced. Your relationship with him sounds incredibly special. Here's a draft for your scholarship application: Cancer is a specter that looms large in the lives of many, casting a shadow that touches not only those diagnosed but also their families and loved ones. I have personally felt the weight of this disease through the loss of my grandfather, who was not only a family member but also a mentor and a father figure to me. Growing up, my father was not around, leaving a void that my grandfather lovingly filled. Despite not being my biological father, he embraced the role wholeheartedly, taking me under his wing and guiding me through life's challenges. We shared a bond that was forged through shared experiences, from watching movies together to going out to dinner. He was my rock, my source of strength and stability. When my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, it felt like the ground was pulled from beneath my feet. The once vibrant and energetic man I looked up to was now facing his mortality, and I was left grappling with the harsh reality of life's fragility. His battle with cancer was a testament to his resilience and courage, but ultimately, it was a battle he could not win. His passing left a void in my life that can never be filled. But through the darkness of loss, I have found a renewed sense of purpose and determination. His legacy of love and strength lives on in me, driving me to pursue my dreams and make the most of every opportunity. I am applying for this scholarship to pursue a degree in jazz studies at The New School in New York. Music has always been a source of solace and inspiration for me, and I believe that pursuing a career in jazz will not only honor my grandfather's memory but also allow me to share my passion with others. I am committed to using my education and talents to make a positive impact in the world, especially in the fight against cancer. I hope to one day use my music to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, in honor of my grandfather and all those who have been affected by this disease. Thank you for considering my application. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story and hope to make a difference in the world through my music and my actions.

Volunteering at Heart House in Dallas, TX, has been a deeply meaningful experience that has shaped my perspective on community service and its impact. Engaging with children from low-income families has taught me valuable lessons in empathy, patience, and the importance of providing support and opportunities to those in need. One of the most rewarding aspects of my volunteer work has been seeing the positive impact it has had on the children. Whether it's helping them with their homework, playing games, or simply being a supportive presence, I have seen firsthand how a little bit of time and care can make a big difference in someone's life. Looking to the future, I am committed to continuing my involvement in community service. I aspire to use my skills and resources to create more opportunities for those who are less fortunate, particularly in the realm of education and mentorship. My experience at Heart House has fueled my passion for serving others and has shown me the profound impact that a dedicated individual can have on their community.
    Neil Margeson Sound Scholarship
Music is more than just a hobby or a career path for me; it is a way of life, a passion that has shaped my identity and driven me to pursue excellence in every aspect of my educational journey. From a young age, I was captivated by the sounds of jazz, and as I grew older, my love for this genre deepened, becoming the driving force behind my desire to become a professional musician. My journey with music began when I was just a child, sitting at the piano and tinkering with the keys, trying to replicate the sounds I heard on my father's old jazz records. As I grew older, I became more serious about my musical studies, taking up the guitar and immersing myself in the rich history and theory of jazz music. Music has been instrumental in my educational journey, shaping the way I think, learn, and interact with the world around me. Through music, I have learned the value of discipline, perseverance, and dedication, qualities that have not only helped me excel in my musical pursuits but have also translated into other areas of my life, including academics. In school, I have always been drawn to subjects that allow me to express my creativity and passion, such as music theory and composition. These subjects have not only deepened my understanding of music but have also helped me develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are valuable in any field of study. Outside of the classroom, music has provided me with countless opportunities to collaborate with other musicians, perform in front of live audiences, and develop my skills as a performer and a leader. These experiences have not only been personally fulfilling but have also helped me develop important social and communication skills that will serve me well in my future career. Looking ahead, my goal is to pursue a career in music, performing and recording jazz music professionally. I am inspired by the great jazz musicians who have come before me, and I am excited about the possibility of contributing to the rich legacy of this genre. I am confident that my passion for music, combined with my dedication to excellence and my commitment to lifelong learning, will enable me to achieve my goals and make a meaningful contribution to the world of music. I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my dreams, and I am committed to working tirelessly to make them a reality.
