My name is Asenath Tarekegn, and I am passionate about pursuing a career in Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology to fulfill my dream of becoming a Neurosurgeon. My goal is to specialize in neurosurgical research and clinical practice, where I can contribute significantly to advancements in treating neurological disorders and improving patients' quality of life. I am inspired by the opportunity to explore the delicate workings of the brain and nervous system, with a deep commitment to making a difference in healthcare. Outside of my academics, I am actively involved in conducting extensive research on neuroplasticity, in order to deepen my understanding of the brain's processes and its amazing ability to adapt in response to learning, experience, and injury. In my spare time, I enjoy playing volleyball, the piano, volunteering at my church and writing uplifting cards to people in hospitals. In addition to my academic pursuits, I actively contribute to my school's community as both Vice President and Secretary of the Student Council, roles in which I've been deeply involved for two consecutive years. I have played an important role in planning and organizing many events, including dances like homecoming and prom and fundraising events for our school, this is aimed at fostering school spirit and unity. Additionally, I have taken initiatives in order to give back to our community through organized volunteer efforts and community service projects, which demonstrates my commitment to making a positive impact beyond the classroom. I am eager to be in the field of neuroscience.

Climbing a career ladder is a long process of finding who you really are, and in my case, the final decision is to become a neurosurgeon. One of the most interesting and important parts of the human body is the brain and the human soul, the personality – and their interactions have always intrigued me. In light of this, along with my passion to assist people, the opportunity to become a neurosurgeon appeals to me immensely as the practice of this profession directly contributes to the improvement of patient’s lives.
For this reason, I have made great efforts to ensure that I am academically equipped and professionally experienced to achieve this goal. I am currently in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), in which I undertake challenging studies that enhance my problem solving skills. The material taught in this course will benefit me in various areas I am likely to encounter in medical school and my practice later on.
Apart from the class work, I have ensured that I engage myself in practical experience in medical field activities. I have lately followed a neurosurgeon, which helps me understand the routine of a neurosurgeon and the possibilities of the neurological field as well as the significant role of a neurosurgeon in a patient's life. This exposure has not only reinforced my desire to become a neurosurgeon but has also provided me with a realistic perspective of the effort needed to establish oneself in this profession.
Besides my academic performance and shadowing, I have been actively participating in volunteering, which equals 301+ hours. Through this work, I have learned the value of being understanding, proficient in both spoken and written language, and being a useful member in society which are all qualities you need to have to be a good doctor. I have also served as a student council representative for some time and as the senior class vice president, which has given me the organizational and analytical skills that might come in handy when working in a surgical team.
I am confident that my experiences and my interests would fit well into the particular field of study that I selected. My mission is to ensure that quality healthcare is affordable and can be easily understood. For instance, I am in the process of writing a children’s approximately oriented book on simplifying medical concepts which I believe is more evidence of my passion in education as well as in patients. By completing this project, I will be able to enlighten the younger generation and also educate the society.
Thus staying focused and determined I dream of revolutionizing neurosurgery in the years to come. Instead, my objectives are to not only acquire necessary technical expertise but also to appreciate each patient’s individuality and treat them accordingly. My goals are to make progress in the field of neurological treatment options and help to enhance the quality of life for my patients. Moreover, I want to be engaged in research activities and to become a teacher to contribute to the development of new methods in the field of neurosurgery and to guide young doctors and scientists.
This scholarship will significantly contribute to the accomplishment of my educational and professional dreams. With your help, I shall be able to carry on studying and develop into a neurosurgeon when I will be able to save people’s lives and keep contributing to the progress of medicine.

I am a devoted student, an avid learner, and someone deeply committed to making a difference in the world. Currently, I am a senior at Spring Valley High School where I immerse myself in both my studies and my passion for neuroscience. When I’m not writing stories and poems, you can find me volunteering at local school events or participating in community outreach programs. I am particularly passionate about neurosurgery because it combines cutting-edge science with the chance to offer hope and healing. This summer, I will further my commitment by engaging in a research project focused on neurological disorders, which will deepen my knowledge and prepare me for a career dedicated to transforming lives through advanced medical care.
As I held my aunt’s frail hand in the sterile confines of the hospital room, the rhythmic beeping of the monitors felt like a cruel reminder of her battle with a relentless brain illness. Her struggle, marked by a gradual loss of memory and vitality, was a profound moment of awakening for me. Witnessing her fight, I grappled with the harsh reality of suffering and the desperate need for meaningful interventions. This personal experience became the catalyst for my passion to become a neurosurgeon, a role where I aspire to not only confront neurological disorders but also bring hope and relief to those grappling with similar adversities.
Neurosurgery interests me not just with the kind of technological importance it embraces but more by its ability to alter the lives of people.Unlike traditional careers in the surgical field, I see myself being more than a neurosurgeon merely operating in the operating room. In addition to carrying out operations, I ensure that I am engaged in contributing to neuroscientific knowledge and discovering new treatment modalities in a bid to enhance patient care for neurological conditions. By adding to the existing knowledge of the field, I would like to make therapies better, and in a best-case scenario, start finding cures.
I have a passion for the fight for healthcare equality or fair share and for people to be able to access the kind of healthcare they need. Promoting education and mentorship are poignant responsibilities when developing the picture of the future. But beyond the technical aspect, I really enjoy the idea of being an inspiration to young healthcare workers; of molding the next generation of caring, intelligent, and capable docs. In particular, apart from influencing others and making a positive change, I want to help others embrace the feeling of making a difference in global health.
This passion for a reason makes me strive hard to be a neurosurgeon in order to make a meaningful contribution to the field of medicine. My goal is to continue to dedicate myself to the field of healthcare and particularly neurosurgery and continue working on achieving the best outcome for any patient while advocating for health care reform. This is because with the current fast pace at which population is increasing and health facility is not expanding, I want to help bridge this gap through active involvement with the underprivileged society and ensuring that the future healthcare professionals have positive outlook towards the needy individuals in the society as a way of improving the health sector in the future world. I am ready to start this way and every day at the university I am closer to achieving the changes that I want to see in the world – healthier and more compassionate
