The music video is a very important factor in understanding this song and the messages that Glover is attempting to convey. The simplicity of the lyrics embodies the typical American mindset. The lines, "We just want the money" "We just wanna party" and "Girl, you got me dancin'" are perfect examples of the message social media has pushed into our brains. The typical American will do horrible things for social media popularity. Social media is all about trends and the "next new thing". This song also hits heavily on gun violence and gun control issues. Glover conveys this in the music video with enactments of mass shootings and gang violence. Lastly, of course, the topic of being an African American in America. The minds of black men are also being controlled by top brand names. "Look how I'm geekin' out, I'm so fitted, I'm on Gucci, I'm so pretty" The average black man in America wants to look rich by getting these notable brand name clothes and cars.
