My name is Aryanel Torres, and I’m a senior at Riverdale Ridge High School in Colorado. I’ve always been passionate about helping others, and that passion has guided my dream of becoming an anesthesiologist. I’ve been involved in HOSA, Future Health Professionals, where I have learned about medical careers, patient care, and the importance of teamwork in healthcare settings. My involvement in HOSA, combined with my volunteer work at church, has shown me how compassion, service, and leadership can make a real difference in people’s lives. My community involvement has been one of the most rewarding parts of my high school experience. Every month, I volunteer with my church to help feed the homeless and work at a local food bank that provides groceries to families in need. Through these experiences, I have learned that true service means seeing people for who they are, not just their struggles, and offering kindness without expecting anything in return. I have also had the opportunity to mentor younger students through school activities and encourage them to stay focused on their goals. These moments remind me how important it is to give back, and they have deepened my desire to pursue a career where I can continue serving others through medicine. As I look toward college, financial need is one of the biggest challenges I face. My family has always worked hard to provide for me, but the cost of higher education, including tuition, housing, textbooks, and other expenses, is a major concern. I am determined to attend college and eventually medical school, but I know it will take scholarships, part-time work, and dedication to make it possible. Receiving financial support would relieve much of that burden and allow me to focus fully on my studies while continuing to volunteer in my community. I see higher education not just as a personal goal but as an opportunity to create a better future for my family and give back to the people who have supported me. Beyond academics, I care deeply about helping children and youth stay safe in my community, both in person and online. I have seen how bullying and cyberbullying can damage someone’s confidence and mental health, especially at a young age. That is why I make it a priority to speak up when I see bullying and to be a source of support for those who are affected. I encourage my peers and younger students to use social media responsibly, protect their privacy, and avoid harmful online behavior. I also believe that kindness and empathy can prevent bullying before it starts. By setting an example of respect and inclusion, I hope to make my school and community safer and more supportive for everyone. What motivates me most is the belief that one person can make a difference through consistency, compassion, and purpose. Whether I am volunteering, studying, or mentoring, I try to live by those values every day. My goal is to continue that mission through a career in healthcare, where I can help patients feel safe and cared for during some of their most vulnerable moments. With the support of this scholarship, I will be one step closer to achieving that dream and continuing to build a stronger, kinder community one person at a time.
