    Social Anxiety Step Forward Scholarship
From as far back as I can remember, anxiety has followed me like a shadow. It started during the most uncertain moments of my life fighting to survive with my family in our home country, unsure if we would make it to the next day. Fear wasn’t just emotional; it was physical, real, and constant. Every sound outside could be danger. Every day was about survival. That fear planted the seeds of anxiety that still grow within me today. Even when I reached safer ground, my mind didn't. The trauma lingered. I brought it with me to school, where a simple presentation would feel like standing in front of a firing squad. My heart would race, my hands would sweat, and no matter how much I prepared, my voice would betray me. I would stutter, forget simple words, or worse freeze completely. I hated that feeling, the shame of being misunderstood, or laughed at for something I couldn’t control. My social anxiety has made the world feel like a place where I don’t belong. It’s made making friends difficult, speaking in class terrifying, and advocating for myself exhausting. There were times I questioned if I was smart enough or worthy enough for college. I was never officially diagnosed by a doctor due to a lack of access to mental health resources, but I know what I experience is real and I know I'm not alone. Despite this, I’ve never stopped fighting. I’ve never let my fear win completely. I’ve learned to take small steps. I joined online discussion boards to participate in class without the pressure of speaking. I practiced presentations over and over until my voice shook a little less. I’ve started therapy and found ways to calm my mind before I speak. It’s not easy it’s a battle every time but I keep showing up. College isn’t just a dream for me it’s a declaration. It says, “I belong here, too.” I want to study finance and help communities, especially those who’ve gone through hardship like mine, understand how to build security and stability. I want to be the kind of professional I never had someone who listens, understands, and uplifts others despite what they’ve been through. Social anxiety doesn’t define me. But it has shaped me into someone incredibly empathetic, observant, and determined. I know how hard it is to speak up when your mind is against you. That’s why I want to use my education to give others a voice whether that’s through financial literacy, community advocacy, or simply showing them they are not alone. This scholarship would be a light in the fog for me. It would show that someone believes in me, even when I sometimes struggle to believe in myself. I’m not healed yet but I am healing. And I’m not giving up.
    Michele L. Durant Scholarship
My name is Arrabayle Hilary Pierre, and I am a proud immigrant Haitian woman, and aspiring finance professional. As I pursue my undergraduate degree, I carry the weight and honor of being a first-generation college student not just for myself, but for my family, my community, and every Black woman who has ever been told to settle for less. Michele L. Durant’s legacy deeply resonates with me. Like her, I am a “forever student” in both spirit and action. I believe education is not only a pathway to opportunity but also a tool for generational transformation. I know what it means to juggle survival and ambition, to feel the pressure of creating a better future while fighting systemic barriers. I also know that my dreams are valid and that they deserve investment. My dream is to become a financial analyst and, ultimately, a leader in financial education reform. I've witnessed too many families especially Black, immigrant, and low-income struggle because they never had access to financial knowledge. I want to change that. I want to use my voice and degree to simplify financial systems for those who’ve been excluded from them. I plan to launch a nonprofit that provides free financial literacy workshops and coaching for single mothers, immigrants, and underserved youth starting right in my community. As a young immigrant, I’ve developed unmatched resilience, time management, and empathy. These aren't just survival skills they are leadership skills. Every hardship I’ve faced has only strengthened my determination to succeed. But the road hasn’t been easy. As a Black woman navigating higher education, I’ve often felt the lack of mentors who look like me or understand the complexities I carry. That’s why representation matters and why I aim to become that very presence for others. Michele Durant’s story reminds me that even when society underestimates Black women, we rise. Even when the system places debt, wage gaps, and silence in our way we persist. But we shouldn’t have to do it alone. This scholarship is more than money it is time, mental space, and energy I can redirect toward excelling in school and giving back sooner. I will make a difference by being the financial expert who brings equity to the table. By becoming the mentor I never had. By helping other women of color own their power, build wealth, and believe that their dreams are not too big. Thank you for considering me. I am not just investing in a degree I am building a legacy of empowerment, just like Michele did.
Jennifer Gephart Memorial Working Mothers Scholarship
As a mother, I’ve learned that strength doesn’t always come in loud, visible bursts. Sometimes, it comes in quiet perseverance in waking up early to prepare meals while balancing classes, wiping away tears before job interviews, or dreaming of a better future with a baby on your hip. My journey into motherhood didn’t pause my ambitions; it transformed them. Becoming a mother gave me clarity, direction, and a profound sense of purpose that now guides my path toward a career in finance. Like Jennifer Gephart, I believe that working and caring are not mutually exclusive roles they are beautifully intertwined. Her story deeply resonates with me: a woman who evolved through life’s chapters, embraced new careers, and empowered others along the way. As an immigrant and young mother, I carry similar determination. Though the road has been uncertain, my commitment to building a better life for my child and contributing to society has never wavered. During my gap year, I’ve worked hard to support my family while preparing to enter college as a finance major. I’ve managed childcare, job applications, and paperwork all while nurturing my dream of financial independence and educational achievement. These experiences have sharpened my resilience, time management, and emotional intelligence qualities that are invaluable in any career, especially in the field of finance where integrity, empathy, and discipline matter. I’m passionate about finance because I’ve seen first-hand how lack of financial literacy can limit families, particularly women and immigrants. My goal is to become a financial analyst and eventually establish a nonprofit that offers free financial education to single mothers, immigrant families, and underserved communities. I want to use my voice, my story, and my skills to uplift others just as Jennifer did. Her legacy shows that it’s never too late to pivot, to grow, and to give back. This scholarship would be more than financial help it would be an affirmation that my path, though unconventional, is worthy. It would allow me to pursue higher education without choosing between providing for my child and investing in my future. With your support, I can continue to be a strong foundation for my child while building a career that enables me to serve others. Jennifer’s life reminds me that purpose can be reborn many times throughout our lives. I aspire to follow in her footsteps by honoring my roles both as a mother and a professional, refusing to be defined by limitations, and always lifting others as I climb. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship and for believing in the extraordinary strength of women who dare to dream for themselves, their families, and their communities.
    She Rose in Health Equity
Growing up as a Black woman, I have always been acutely aware of the discrimination my community endures even in spaces where justice seems a given, like healthcare. Black women in the U.S. die from pregnancy-related causes at rates 2.6–3.5 times higher than their White counterparts, a disparity that persists despite overall declines in maternal mortality. Shockingly, in 2023 Black women experienced 50.3 deaths per 100,000 live births over three times the rate for White women (14.5). These statistics reflect not only chronic conditions but also the insidious effects of racial bias: dismissive providers, delayed diagnoses, and undertreated pain create deadly outcomes. Alarmingly, society often turns a deaf ear to these realities, normalizing “Black women’s pain tolerance” as a myth that justifies inequitable treatment Healthcare settings, ideally sanctuaries of care, become arenas of prejudice where Black women must fight for every proper intervention. This structural neglect is not only heretical but life-threatening. As a future leader in health equity, I refuse to accept this status quo. My mission is twofold: first, to excel academically and professionally so I can speak with authority. Pursuing graduate studies in public health and complementing that with business acumen will equip me to design and manage organizations that directly address these disparities. Second, I will establish a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black women during and after childbirth. This organization will provide education about self-advocacy, partner women with trusted Black healthcare providers, and lobby for policy reforms that expand Medicaid postpartum coverage and fund community-based birthing models shown to improve outcomes I plan to collaborate with initiatives like the CDC’s Hear Her campaign and Black Mamas Matter Alliance, amplifying their efforts and ensuring resources reach those most in need. By fundraising, mobilizing volunteers, and leveraging social media, my nonprofit will create peer-support networks where Black mothers can share experiences and strategies for navigating the healthcare system. These networks will also train doulas and community health workers, proven to reduce maternal deaths when integrated into care teams Winning the She Rose in Health Equity Scholarship would be transformative. The financial support would allow me to focus fully on my studies and grassroots organizing without the distraction of crippling loan debt. It would also validate the importance of centering Black women’s voices in health policy discussions and empower me to expand my nonprofit’s reach throughout the DMV area. In honoring the legacy of Black women who have suffered and fought for equitable care, I commit to being a visible example of advocacy and resilience. I will raise awareness through public speaking, research publications, and community workshops about the tragic maternal mortality gap, advocating for systemic changes in hospital training, reimbursement policies, and provider accountability. Ultimately, my education and leadership will drive a future where no Black woman’s life is discounted, and every mother receives the compassionate, competent care she deserves.
Women in STEM and Community Service Scholarship
Growing up in a predominantly white community, I often felt like an outlier my skin tone, my hair texture, my very presence seemed to challenge the unspoken norms around me. I am committed to using my education to promote inclusivity and cross-cultural understanding in the financial sector and beyond.
    NE1 NE-Dream Scholarship
Growing up as a Black woman in a conservative environment and a predominantly white state, I often felt the weight of societal beauty standards that didn't reflect my own features. The pervasive Eurocentric ideals made it challenging to see the beauty in my natural hair, skin tone, and cultural expressions. This internalized pressure led to moments of self-doubt and a longing to fit into a mold that wasn't designed for me. I often felt the weight of societal expectations pressing down on me. The unspoken rules about how I should look, speak, and behave created a cage that stifled my true self. It wasn't until I began to explore my identity more deeply that I realized the importance of self-expression and the freedom it brings. My journey toward self-discovery has been both challenging and enlightening. I faced moments of doubt and fear, questioning whether embracing my authentic self would lead to acceptance or alienation. However, through the support of a loving community and a commitment to personal growth, I found the courage to break free from the confines of societal norms. However, over time, I found solace and strength in a community that celebrated diversity and authenticity. Surrounding myself with individuals who uplifted and affirmed my unique beauty allowed me to shed the layers of imposed standards. Through shared experiences and mutual support, I began to see myself through a lens of empowerment rather than comparison. This journey of self-acceptance has fueled my passion for finance. I aspire to climb the corporate ladder, not just for personal success, but to serve as a beacon of representation for young Black girls who, like me, seek role models in spaces where they are underrepresented. By breaking barriers and challenging norms, I aim to create a path that others can follow with confidence and pride. Pursuing a career in finance is more than a professional goal; it's a mission to redefine narratives and inspire change. I envision a future where boardrooms reflect the diversity of our society, and where young Black girls can see themselves in positions of power and influence. Losing my father to cancer shortly after immigrating to the United States was a profound and life-altering experience. His passing not only left a void in my heart but also ignited a deep-seated determination to understand and combat the disease that took him from me. This personal tragedy was compounded by the loss of two close friends during my high school years, further intensifying my resolve to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Driven by a desire to comprehend the complexities of cancer, I embarked on a journey of research and outreach. My quest led me to Boston Children's Hospital, a renowned institution dedicated to pediatric care. There, I engaged with nurses and interacted with young cancer patients, offering them gifts they had requested. These encounters were both heart-wrenching and inspiring, revealing the resilience of children facing unimaginable challenges. At that moment, I realised that cancer isn't only a disease but rather a persistent shadow that follows, affects, crept into our lives with plans on its own. It brutally takes the lives of whom's was once our beloved, people that we used to known that vanish and disappear forever. When my father was deceased and gone, I truly used to believe that the disease itself, won, penetrated his body and despise his strengths and his will to live, everything was in vain. It was at that moment that it occurred to me that I could rather let this poisonous melody on my ear to take over or refuse to listen to it by helping others that are going through exactly what I am going through. I get to choose to research, get educated in a more profound way about his subject that is no longer estranged to me, but rather a part of who I am, and the become I am yet to become. So then, my journey embarked. During this time, I discovered a startling statistic: New Hampshire, my home state, has one of the highest pediatric cancer rates in the nation, with an incidence rate of 205.5 per million children between 2003 and 2014 . This revelation underscored the urgency of addressing this public health crisis and fueled my commitment to effect change. Although my academic pursuits are rooted in finance, my experiences have shaped a unique vision for leveraging my education to support cancer-affected families. I aspire to establish a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding medical exams for children and providing financial assistance to families burdened by cancer-related expenses. Additionally, I aim to create support networks to help individuals navigate the grieving process, offering solace and understanding to those who have lost loved ones. My journey has instilled in me a profound empathy and a relentless drive to make a meaningful impact. By combining my financial acumen with a heartfelt commitment to cancer advocacy, I am determined to transform personal loss into a catalyst for positive change. Through education, compassion, and action, I hope to honor the memories of those I've lost and bring hope to countless others facing similar battles.
Vegan Teens Are The Future Scholarship
Adopting a vegan ethical framework is a transformative decision that profoundly impacts personal health, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability. This commitment not only fosters individual well-being but also contributes significantly to addressing global challenges such as the climate crisis, water misuse, and biodiversity loss. Embracing veganism initiates a journey toward mindful living and ethical responsibility. By consciously choosing plant-based foods, individuals align their actions with values of compassion and non-violence. This alignment fosters a sense of integrity and purpose, enhancing overall well-being. From a health perspective, well-planned vegan diets have been associated with numerous benefits. Studies indicate that such diets can lead to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and reduced rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. These health advantages not only improve quality of life but also reduce healthcare costs and burdens on medical systems. The livestock industry is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and habitat destruction. Transitioning to a plant-based diet can substantially reduce one's carbon footprint. Research suggests that widespread adoption of veganism could decrease greenhouse gas emissions and alleviate pressure on land resources. By choosing plant-based foods, individuals actively participate in mitigating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability. Veganism directly challenges the exploitation and cruelty inherent in animal agriculture. Factory farming often subjects animals to inhumane conditions, including confinement, mutilation, and premature slaughter. By eliminating animal products from their diet, vegans take a stand against these practices, advocating for the inherent rights and dignity of all sentient beings. This ethical stance fosters a more compassionate and just society. The expansion of livestock farming is a leading cause of habitat destruction and species extinction. Forests are cleared to create grazing land and grow feed crops, displacing countless wildlife species. Transitioning to plant-based diets reduces the demand for animal agriculture, allowing for the preservation and restoration of natural habitats. This shift is crucial for maintaining biodiversity and ensuring the health of ecosystems. As an aspiring finance professional, I recognize the pivotal role that financial strategies play in promoting and sustaining the vegan movement. Ethical investing, particularly in plant-based and cruelty-free enterprises, directs capital toward businesses that align with vegan values. For instance, the U.S. Vegan Climate ETF offers investors an opportunity to support companies that prioritize animal welfare and environmental sustainability. Furthermore, financial advisors can guide clients in aligning their investment portfolios with their ethical beliefs, fostering a more compassionate economy. By specializing in this niche, I aim to bridge the gap between finance and veganism, encouraging individuals and institutions to invest in ways that reflect their commitment to animal welfare and environmental stewardship. Personal choices have the power to influence broader societal norms and behaviors. By embodying the principles of veganism, individuals serve as role models, demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of a compassionate lifestyle. Engaging in conversations, sharing experiences, and providing education about veganism can inspire others to reflect on their choices and consider adopting similar practices. This ripple effect can lead to a collective movement toward a more ethical and sustainable world. Adopting a vegan ethical framework is a profound step toward personal growth and global betterment. It addresses critical issues such as climate change, water conservation, animal cruelty, and biodiversity loss. By committing to this lifestyle and integrating financial expertise to support ethical investments, individuals not only enhance their own health and well-being but also contribute to creating a more compassionate, sustainable, and just world for current and future generations.
