Bio

At 23 years old, I am currently navigating the roles of disabled veteran, mother to two, aged 2 and 3, and devoted wife to my high school sweetheart. I am also working to pursue higher education in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at ECPI University. My personal goals center around providing a secure and fulfilling future for my children while serving as a model of resilience and determination. Despite the challenges of being a young mother with limited finances and health struggles, I am committed to proving that success is achievable through hard work and dedication. Maintaining a 3.68 GPA as a full-time student amidst these obstacles is a testament to my steadfast determination. A scholarship would not only alleviate some of the financial burdens of pursuing my education but also signify recognition of my perseverance and commitment to overcoming the trials and tribulations of life. I am deeply driven by a desire to demonstrate that with resilience and determination, any obstacle can be overcome, and I am ready to take hold of the opportunity to fulfill my potential and positively impact the world around me.

During my time in the military, I eagerly awaited the arrival of my first child. Amidst the anticipation, I found a deep friendship with a fellow expectant first-time mother, due just days after me. Despite the challenges of being pregnant during the pandemic, we shared in each other's excitement, envisioning a future filled with shared playdates and coordinated outfits for our daughters. Tragically, my friend's journey took a devastating turn. Her daughter was diagnosed with a chromosomal abnormality, leading to a heartbreaking loss at 37 weeks. Witnessing her anguish in this time, was devastating enough on it's own right; but when I learned of her experience during the sonogram in which she was given the devastating news I was completely gutted. My friend shared with me that she had to receive this news alone due to the covid restrictions and instead of having empathy and trying to deliver the awful news in a kind and compassionate way, the sonographer was matter-of-fact, emotionless, and cold. She said she felt like just another number and that her and her daughter didn't matter. This profound experience ignited a passion in me to pursue a career in healthcare. I am driven by the desire to provide compassionate care, particularly to those facing similar circumstances. My aim is to offer support and understanding, not only to other women and mothers but to anyone undergoing a scan, navigating the uncertainty of potential health issues. My journey from military service to sonography is guided by the belief that empathy and kindness can profoundly impact lives during times of vulnerability. Additionally, through my own pregnancies and current health struggles, including issues related to SVT and POTS, I have a unique and significant insight into the emotional toll and uncertainty involved in navigating health challenges. Through these experiences, I have gained a deep empathy and understanding for others facing similar struggles, as well as a fervent desire to make a positive impact in the world of healthcare. As I venture on into this career path, my experiences as both a mother and an individual dealing with health issues will undoubtedly serve as invaluable assets. I understand and deeply empathize with the anxieties that mothers feel during ultrasounds to check on the well-being of their unborn children, as well as the fears that accompany individuals with health concerns who come in for diagnostic imaging procedures. I look forward to having the opportunity to provide compassionate care and reassurance to patients during these times, drawing from my own experiences to connect with them on a deeper level and be a source of comfort and compassion amid their fear and uncertainty.
