Music has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started singing in chorus when I was in preschool, not really knowing at the time how important it would become to me. At first, it was just something fun—singing simple songs with other kids and learning how to use my voice. But as I grew older, music became more than just an activity. It became a way for me to express myself and connect with others in a way that words alone couldn’t. In middle school, my love for music continued to grow when I joined chorus and had the opportunity to participate in All-County Chorus. That experience pushed me to take music more seriously. I was surrounded by other students who were just as passionate as I was, and it motivated me to improve my skills. It was during this time that I started to realize that music could be something I truly excel in if I put in the effort. When I entered high school, my journey in music became even more meaningful. I joined the advanced honors show choir and eventually became the vice president. Being in a leadership role taught me responsibility, teamwork, and how to support others while continuing to grow myself. It was also in high school that I really learned how to read music, which opened up a whole new world for me. Understanding sheet music allowed me to connect more deeply with the songs I was performing and made me a more confident and skilled singer. One of my biggest accomplishments was being selected for All-State Choir. That experience was both challenging and rewarding, and it showed me how far I had come since my early days in preschool chorus. I also had the incredible opportunity to compete at the Disney World Music Festival, where my choir earned the Golden Mickey. That moment meant so much to me because it was the result of years of hard work, dedication, and passion for music. Music has always been my outlet. Whenever I feel stressed, overwhelmed, or even excited, music is there for me. It allows me to express emotions that I sometimes can’t put into words. Whether I’m singing in a group or practicing on my own, I feel like I can truly be myself through music. Looking toward the future, I plan to continue pursuing music after I graduate college. My goal is to become a music teacher because I want to share the same passion and opportunities that I have experienced with younger generations. I believe music is extremely important in children’s lives because it helps them grow creatively, emotionally, and socially. I want to make sure that music continues to be valued and that students have a place where they can express themselves freely, just like I did. Overall, music has shaped who I am today. It has given me confidence, friendships, and a sense of purpose. I can’t imagine my life without it, and I am excited to see where it will take me in the future.

My uncle’s story has always been one of resilience, transformation, and hope. As a child, he faced circumstances that many people would find overwhelming. He was placed into foster care at a young age, separated from the stability and familiarity of his biological family. What could have been a permanent setback instead became the beginning of a new path—one shaped by people who believed in his potential before he fully believed in it himself. In his foster home, my uncle was surrounded by a family that valued education, discipline, and self-worth. They didn’t treat him like someone defined by his past; instead, they treated him like someone with a future worth investing in. They constantly encouraged him to aim higher, reminding him that his situation did not determine his destiny. Over time, their influence began to take root. He started to see education not just as an obligation, but as an opportunity—a way to build a life he could be proud of. Through hard work and determination, my uncle eventually earned acceptance into Villanova University. That achievement alone was a testament to how far he had come. From a child navigating the uncertainty of foster care to a college student pursuing higher education, his journey showed that perseverance could rewrite any narrative. When I was six years old, my uncle took me to a basketball game at Villanova. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the significance of where we were or what it meant to him, but I could feel the excitement and pride in his voice. During that visit, I had the chance to meet one of the players. I still remember the moment clearly—the player looked at me and said that I could do anything if I worked hard and stayed focused. It was a simple statement, but it stayed with me. Even as a child, I felt the weight of those words, especially knowing the journey my uncle had taken to get there. Over the years, my uncle’s life continued to evolve. Eventually, he was reunited with his biological mother, a moment that brought his story full circle. But what made it even more meaningful was the position he was in when that reunion happened. With his college degree and a stable job, he was able to support her financially and help her overcome her debts. It was more than just assistance—it was a reflection of his growth, his character, and his commitment to giving back. Watching my uncle’s journey has had a profound impact on me. His life taught me that the circumstances you’re born into don’t define who you become. Instead, it’s your choices, your effort, and your willingness to keep going that shape your future. Because of him, I’ve developed a strong desire to pursue higher education. He has been there every step of the way, helping me apply to colleges, offering advice, and reminding me to stay focused on my goals. More than anything, my uncle inspires me every day. His story reminds me that even when life deals you difficult cards, they don’t determine the outcome of your game. With hard work, support, and belief in yourself, you can create a future that goes beyond expectations.
Sandy Jenkins Excellence in Early Childhood Education Scholarship
Early childhood education is something I feel deeply passionate about because it connects directly to who I am and how I see the world. I have always naturally gravitated toward younger children, and for as long as I can remember, they have seemed to gravitate toward me as well. Whether it is in a classroom, at church, or in everyday settings, I have noticed that younger kids tend to trust me easily. They feel comfortable talking to me, asking questions, and being themselves without hesitation. That kind of connection has always felt meaningful to me, and over time it helped shape what I want to do with my life. What makes early childhood education so important to me is the belief that these early years matter more than people often realize. Young children are at a stage where they are learning not just academics, but also how to interact with others, how to handle emotions, and how to understand their place in the world. I truly believe that the way a child is treated during those formative years can influence the type of person they become later in life. A patient, encouraging, and caring environment can help a child grow into someone confident and kind. On the other hand, a lack of support can leave lasting effects. Because of that, I see teaching young children as a responsibility that goes far beyond lessons and worksheets. It is about shaping a foundation for their future. Another major reason I want to become an early childhood educator is because of the teachers I had growing up. I was fortunate to have several amazing teachers who genuinely cared about their students. They were patient, understanding, and always willing to take the time to help when someone was struggling. I remember how safe and valued they made me feel in their classrooms. They did not just teach subjects; they created environments where students felt encouraged to learn and grow. Those experiences stayed with me long after I moved on to other grades. Looking back now, I realize that those teachers played a huge role in shaping my own goals and values. Because of them, I began to understand what it looks like to be a positive influence in a child’s life. I saw how a teacher’s words and actions could build confidence in a student or help them believe in themselves when they were struggling. That impact is something I want to give to others someday. I want to be the kind of teacher that students remember for making them feel capable, safe, and important. Choosing early childhood education feels less like a decision and more like something I am meant to do. It brings together my natural connection with younger kids, my belief in the importance of early development, and the inspiration I received from my own teachers. My goal is to create a classroom where children feel valued, supported, and encouraged to become the best versions of themselves.

Throughout my four years in the Socastee Singers show choir program, I stayed involved in both the arts through theatre and performance, and also in serving my community through my church. One of the main things I did with my church was help build homes for people who needed them. I worked with other volunteers doing hands-on tasks during construction, helping wherever I was needed to make sure the homes could be completed and ready for families. I also took part in different service projects through my church that focused on helping people in the community. These projects included things like setting up, organizing supplies, and helping with general work that made it possible for events and outreach programs to run smoothly. A lot of the time it meant working as a team and doing whatever task was needed, even if it was small, because everything helped the bigger goal. Another important project I helped with was a book cleaning and donation effort through my school and church. This was done for elementary students who had lost their homes in fires and didn’t have access to their books anymore. I helped clean, sort, and organize donated books so they could be given out to the students. We made sure the books were in good condition and appropriate for different age groups so they could be useful in classrooms and at home. Along with that, I helped organize and prepare other donated school materials as part of the same effort. This included sorting items, packing them up, and getting everything ready to be delivered to the students and schools that needed them. It was all about making sure kids had the supplies they needed to keep learning even after going through something difficult. I also helped with smaller church events and activities when needed, such as setting up spaces before events and cleaning up afterward. These jobs may have seemed simple, but they were important in keeping everything running smoothly and making sure events were ready for the community. I also sing in my church for Sunday service, and I also volunteer my time as a teacher for the youth groups hosted on Wednesdays. I love to interact and teach younger children and getting involved with the younger kids in my community. Overall, my involvement with my church included helping build homes, assisting with community service projects, and supporting efforts to provide books and school supplies to children who had lost theirs. Being an asset in both my school and community has impacted
      Scorenavigator Financial Literacy Scholarship
When I was younger, my parents had to make a decision that changed everything for my family. Instead of finishing high school and going to college, they chose to have a child and start their own business. They believed in what they were building and hoped it would give us a stable and successful future. Unfortunately, things didn't turn out the way they expected. The business struggled a lot, and because of that our family faces a lot of financial challenges, especially since my parents had small children at the time. Growing up in those circumstances wasn't easy, and I became aware of those struggles pretty early in my childhood. Even though things were hard, my parents never stopped trying. They worked constantly to provide for me and my siblings, always putting us first no matter how difficult things got. Watching them push through taught me what real hard work looked like, but it also taught me that I, myself need to work hard and stay focused to be able to have a life where I won't have to struggle to provide. It made me realize that I wanted a different path, one where I could create more opportunities for myself and eventually give back to my family. All my life, I have tried my best to get good grades and stay focused in school. I knew that education was my way forward. Even when things were stressful at home, I stayed committed to doing well because I understood what was at stake. Now, at this point in my life, all that effort is leading me toward the chance to earn scholarships and financial support. My goal is to be the first person in my family to go to college and pursue my dreams, and that means everything to me. Financial help can benefit my journey in so many ways. It would take a huge amount of stress off both me and my family. Instead of constantly worrying about how I will afford tuition, I would be able to focus on my classes, get a job, and make most of the opportunity. College comes with many expenses, and having support would make those costs more manageable and less overwhelming. With all the expenses, I don't want to put anymore extra financial pressure on my family. My parents have spent my entire life doing everything they can to support me and my siblings and make sure we had more opportunities than they did. I want to do my part by working hard and finding ways to support myself through school. By going to college, I can break the chain of financial struggle and uncertainty and have a stable career. This scholarship would mean so much to me. It would not only help me reach my goal of attending college, but it would also allow me to continue building a future that my parents always hoped for. it's an opportunity for me to turn their sacrifices into something meaningful and prove that just because you're delt a bad hand, you can still come out as a winner.
      Jacob Wise Memorial Scholarship
Growing up in a household where my parents were still trying to build a livelihood while raising four young children shaped me in ways I did not fully understand at the time. While they worked tirelessly to keep our family stable, I watched my older siblings step into parental roles, taking care of us and sacrificing their own time, lives, and opportunities. They carried responsivities far beyond their years, and because of that, they did not always have the chance to pursue their own dreams. Seeing their sacrifices made a lasting impact on me, and it drives me to make the most of the opportunities I now have by pursuing my dream of going to college. Balancing life at home and school was still challenging. Even though I was not the one taking care of everything, the environment I was around made it difficult for me to stay focused on school. There were nights filled with distractions and responsibilities, and moments when I walked into the classroom feeling unprepared. It was frustrating knowing I had the potential to succeed but feeling pulled in different directions. however, these challenges did not break me; they just made me more determined. They taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of showing up even when things are hard. Through watching, my parents push forward despite obstacles, I learned the true meaning of hard work. They never gave up, and that example became the foundation of my own determination. Their perseverance inspired me to take my education seriously and strive for something greater. I realized that education could open doors not only for me, but also as a way to honor the sacrifices my family made for me. One of the most defining influences in my life was a teacher who didn't quite know my situation but recognized it. Instead of overlooking my struggles and behavior, she took the time to work with me individually, ensuring I understood the material and stayed on track with the rest of the class. Her patience and belief in me changed my outlook on learning and showed me the impact a caring educator can have on a child's heart. Through her, I discovered my passion for teaching. I want to become a teacher so I can support students who face challenges similar to mine. I want to be the person who notices, who cares, and who helps students realize their potential even when life makes it difficult and the cards your delt don't always work out in your favor. This scholarship will allow me to continue my education and pursue goals beyond what I ever would've imagined as a kid. It will give me the opportunity to pay forward the support that has changed my life. Becoming an elementary school teacher will be the way I can help and change the lives of so many kids that are like me.
