My name is Aria Mitchell. Pursuing a Liberal Studies degree with a Pre-Law concentration and a minor in Chemistry is more than an academic path; it's a calling rooted in purpose and passion. I aspire to catalyze change by fostering cross-cultural understanding, challenging societal norms, and building bridges between communities. My deep appreciation for cultural traditions, belief systems, and our shared human history drives my commitment to social justice and global unity.
Through my Liberal Studies coursework, I've developed a broad, interdisciplinary perspective, while my chemistry minor equips me with analytical thinking and scientific literacy. These tools are essential in today's complex world. I hope to apply this foundation by working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where I can help create sustainable policies that protect both people and the planet. Whether it's addressing environmental health disparities, advocating for clean communities, or promoting education around climate justice, I want to be part of the solution.
I am committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and ensuring every individual's story is valued, because being heard is not just a privilege, it's a natural right. With dedication to education, change, and community, I am confident that I can make a meaningful impact and help shape a more inclusive, empathetic future for generations to come.

Bright Lights Scholarship
When I envision my future, it's lined with acts of service, advocacy, and unwavering determination. The career I plan to pursue fuses my passion for science and law. Growing up, I always expressed a profound interest in law, and I always excelled in anything STEM. However, choosing one pathway over the other was a feeling that never felt right to me. For a long time, I believed I would eventually have to decide between them. That changed when I discovered that environmental law would allow me to nurture both of my strengths while creating a meaningful impact.
My near future plans include completing my bachelor's in Liberal Studies with a Pre-Law concentration and a chemistry minor. This combination allows me to build a strong interdisciplinary foundation rooted in scientific understanding and legal reasoning. After earning my degree, I plan to attend law school, where I will gain the skills necessary to effectively advocate for those I hope to represent. I aspire to be someone who defends communities disproportionately affected by pollution, climate change, and environmental neglect. These are groups who, unfortunately, are often silenced in conversations about environmental protection.
I first recognized this ambition of mine in high school during my environmental science course. Here, I learned about the devastating effects of environmental neglect and destruction, and how these disproportionately disadvantage marginalized communities. Since then, I've devoted myself to understanding the intersections of environmental science, justice, and policy.
In the long term, I want to be the voice that holds corporations and governmental agencies accountable when they harm the environment or vulnerable communities. Too often, those with fewer economic resources face the consequences of environmental damage. My goal is to use my education to create meaningful change, whether that be through litigation, policy reform, or community advocacy. I want to help foster a future where environmental protection isn't just a figment of imagination, but a right.
This scholarship will play a critical role in helping me achieve those goals. Financial obstacles have been one of the biggest struggles in my academic journey. Receiving this support would allow me to maintain focus on my studies without the constant stress of tuition and living expenses. With this assistance, I can continue on my path of strong academic performance, pursue research opportunities, and stay on the track to law school. Ultimately, this scholarship would not just support my education; it would help me build the foundation necessary to fight for cleaner, safer, and more equitable communities.
Delories Thompson Scholarship
From a young age, I was drawn to understanding the systems that shape our world. In my high school environmental science class, I learned for the first time about the devastating impacts of climate change and global warming. That moment sparked my desire to pursue a career in environmental law. I want to be a voice for communities disproportionately affected by pollution and environmental neglect, ensuring that corporate and governmental accountability aligns with justice. My goal is not only to address environmental harm but to empower the marginalized communities who will bear the biggest burdens. I plan to use my voice to amplify theirs because these decisions will define their health, safety, and future. This path allows me to combine my passion for science with my commitment to social justice.
Being Black means carrying a legacy of resilience, creativity, and determination. It means honoring the richness of my roots while using my voice to challenge inequity. HBCUs weren’t on my list; they were the list. It was the only environment I ever envisioned for myself. There is nothing more powerful than learning in a space overflowing with Black excellence and cultural history. Walking the same campus the Greensboro Four once did reminds me constantly that I have big shoes to fill.
N.C. A&T gives me a foundation where my likeness and ambitions are celebrated. My career goals and my identity are intertwined, and through this path, I hope to leave a lasting impact by advocating for equity, sustainability, and empowerment.
Ann Holiday Memorial Scholarship
More than grades or credits come to me when I think back on my time at North Carolina A&T State University; I see developmental experiences, a sense of purpose, and a community that have molded who I am and who I am becoming. I've completely expressed myself as a learner, a leader, and someone dedicated to bringing about change in the world, thanks to A&T. I'm majoring in Liberal Studies with a Chemistry minor, a combination that I believe will equip me with the interdisciplinary knowledge needed to address environmental issues from both scientific and social justice perspectives. I aim to work in environmental law, advocating for communities far too frequently left out of discussions about ecological protection—those most negatively impacted by systemic neglect, pollution, and climate change. I'm resolved to use the information I've gained from studying these topics scientifically and humanely to advance sustainability and justice.
I've helped others and led with intention in addition to my academics. When my classmates in microeconomics started having trouble, I set up tutoring sessions to ensure they got the help they required. In addition to improving their academic achievement, this activity helped them feel supported and part of a community. It wasn't just about assisting them to pass and reminding them they weren't alone. I was inspired by the same sense of duty to plan a college demonstration against gun violence, a problem that still affects communities like ours. An event organized by students became a public statement that a local news outlet covered. I was reminded of the strength of our voice in that moment. It demonstrated that things get done when we speak up with conviction. Joining the Chemistry Club has made my time here much more enjoyable. I've met peers through it who share my curiosity and drive. This community has grown my self-esteem, leadership skills, and intellectual curiosity.
North Carolina A&T is more than just a school; it's a source of pride, culture, and endless possibilities. I've formed family-like bonds here; every green space feels like a new beginning. The campus spirit is always vibrant. A&T is a place that celebrates individuality while holding us to a higher standard. It encourages us to give back and demands that we grow. The Ann Holiday Memorial Scholarship is crucial to me because it represents the values and opportunities that A&T stands for. Learning about Ann's dedication to her son's future and her belief in the transformative power of this university deeply resonates with me.
Like Ann, my family has always seen education as a path to liberation and legacy. And like her son, I've faced moments of doubt, only to be reminded by this campus and its supporters that I belong here and that my dreams matter. Ann Holiday's love, faith, and tenacity legacy extends to those considered for this scholarship. Her tale is about carrying out a task, not only about loss. If given this chance, I will continue to uphold her spirit in my academic journey and the lives I aim to influence. I intend to honor her by being a voice for the voiceless and ensuring that the seeds of faith she sowed in others continue to flourish for generations.
