Ever since I can remember, I've been fascinated by people- how they think, what drives their choices, and why they react the way they do. I love listening to others and trying to understand their perspectives, whether it's a friend sharing a problem or even just observing someone navigating a difficult situation. That curiosity, combined with my desire to help others, is what inspired me to choose psychology as my field of study. I want to take my natural interest in human behavior and turn it into a career where I can make a real difference in people's lives.
This fall, I will be attending SUNY Geneseo to pursue my bachelor's degree in psychology. I've wanted to go to this school since my freshman year, drawn by its welcoming campus, vibrant community, and the sense of belonging it fosters. Starting college with sophomore-level credits from my honors, AP, and college credit courses has made all of my hard work feel worthwhile. I'm excited not only to dive into my coursework but also to explore opportunities to apply what I learn in real-world settings, like internship or research projects. Each class, project, and interaction will be a step toward building the knowledge and skills I need to become an effective counselor.
After completing my bachelor's degree, I plan to pursue a master's in counseling psychology and eventually earn my licensure to become a licensed counseling psychologist. I hope to work in a collaborative practice, where i can provide clients a safe space to express their feelings, reflect on challenges, and receive gentle guidance. One of the things I find most meaningful about this work is the ability to connect with people during some of their most difficult moments. Being a counselor isn't just about offering solutions- it's about listening, understanding, and helping someone find their own path forward. I want to be that person who can guide others while creating an environment if trust, warmth, and support.
Ultimately, I hope to open my own private practice, where I can combine my professional skills with a space that feels personal, calming, and welcoming. I imagine creating a setting with soft music, comfortable surroundings, and a sense of stability, so clients can feel safe and at ease. This goal is not just about career achievement, it's about shaping my world in a way that reflects who I am and allows me to make the greatest impact possible.
I've chosen psychology because it allows me to turn my natural curiosity, empathy, and passion for helping others into a purposeful career. My education will give me the tools to understand human behavior deeply, offer meaningful guidance, and help people navigate their challenges. More than that, it will allow me to create connections, support growth, and make a difference in a way that is uniquely personal and fulfilling. I'm beyond excited to start this journey, and I know that the combination of my education, compassion, and dedication will help me to achieve my goals while staying true to who I am.
