As a future student of Business Analytics and Managerial Economics at Hartford University in the fall, I am not simply seeking a degree—I am seeking the tools and experiences that will empower me to make a real difference in the world. My ultimate goal is to uplift low-income Hispanic families by using data-driven strategies to create affordable solutions in essential parts of this world like housing, education, and everyday goods—especially my own relatives in Puerto Rico. For me, this journey is not just academic—it’s rooted in passion, love for my community, and a commitment to lifting up those who are too often left behind. Growing up, I saw how hard my mom worked to provide for me and how much she sacrificed to make sure I had opportunities they didn’t, especially the college experience. But I also saw the financial strain and stress that came with trying to make ends meet. The situation is even more difficult for many of my family members in Puerto Rico, where economic hardship is a daily reality. After natural disasters like Hurricane Maria, many families—including my own—were left with fewer resources, higher costs of living, and limited opportunities for stable income. These experiences opened my eyes to how broken and unfair economic systems can be, especially for Hispanic communities. My mom has also lit a fire in me to find solutions that make a real difference. That’s why I chose to study Business Analytics and Managerial Economics. I believe that by learning how to interpret data and understand market dynamics, I can find creative and effective ways to bring down costs and improve access to vital services—whether it's affordable housing, groceries, healthcare, or education. I want to use data not just to increase profit margins, but to drive equity. I want to take what I learn at Hartford University and apply it directly to helping families like mine—both in the mainland U.S. and back home in Puerto Rico. I want to specialize in identifying the lacking factors in supply chains or markets and use that knowledge to design programs and products that truly serve those most in need. This could mean helping a grocery chain find ways to lower prices in low-income neighborhoods or advising a nonprofit on how to maximize its social impact through smarter budgeting and outreach. Above all, I want to keep my heart at the center of everything I do. I think about my relatives in Puerto Rico who are still struggling to rebuild, who work tirelessly for their families but have so little support. I think about how proud they are of me for pursuing higher education, and how much I want to honor them by turning my education into something that benefits them. Their stories, sacrifices, and resilience are what push me to aim higher. In the future, I hope not only to create economic opportunities and affordable solutions, but to be an example to other Hispanic students—that it’s possible to build a career that balances purpose with professionalism. With hard work, passion, and the right tools, we can be the change-makers our communities have been longing for.
