I’m from Buffalo, NY, where there aren’t always a ton of music opportunities. Even so, I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t until high school, though, that I really found my passion. Joining the choir and getting involved in musical theatre were game-changers for me. Those experiences showed me how much I love music and how powerful it can be. Being on stage and working with my fellow performers made me realize that music isn’t just something I enjoy—it's something I want to do for the rest of my life.
After graduating high school, I decided to pursue a degree in Music Education. My goal is to become a music teacher so I can share my love of music with other students. Just like my own music teacher helped me discover my passion, I want to help others find their own musical interests and see how amazing music can be. I remember how my music teacher made every class exciting and how much I looked forward to it. I want to create that same kind of positive and inspiring environment for my future students.
In high school, music wasn’t just a hobby for me; it was a big part of who I am. I learned a lot about myself and what I enjoy through choir and musical theatre. Those experiences made me want to become a music teacher so I can help other kids experience that same joy. I hope to teach music in a way that’s engaging and fun, showing students all the different ways they can connect with music.
After I finish my degree, I want to work in schools where music might not be the main focus but where students would still benefit from it. I think every student should have the chance to explore music and find out what it can offer them. I’m excited about the idea of making music education accessible and enjoyable for all kinds of students, especially in places where they might not have had many chances to get involved in music before.
In short, my journey with music started in Buffalo and really took off during high school. Choosing to study Music Education is my way of turning my passion into a career. I can’t wait to become a music teacher and help students discover their own love for music. My goal is to make a positive impact and share the joy that music has brought me with others.

Music has always been a big part of my life. From a young age, I found myself listening to the little melodies that surround us every day. Whether it was the hum of a fan or the sound of a metal water bottle hitting the floor, I’d hear a pitch in everything. This deep love for music is what led me to choose Music Education as my major at the University at Buffalo. I want to share the joy music has brought me with others, especially young people.
Growing up, music was more than just background noise for me. It was a source of comfort, excitement, and a way to express feelings that were hard to put into words. Music made me feel connected to the world and to myself. It was always there, making tough times a little easier and good times even better. That’s why I decided to become a Music Education major. I wanted to give others the same sense of joy and connection that music has given me.
So when I got in high school and joined my first choir, that's when it was set in stone that music was my passion and that music was my goal in life.
In college, my goal is to learn how to teach music effectively and reach out to students in a way that inspires them. I want to make music education accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Each student learns differently, so I plan to use various teaching methods to help each one find their own musical path. By doing this, I hope to build their confidence and help them develop a lifelong love for music.
Ultimately, my goal is to make a positive difference in my students’ lives through music. I want them to gain more than just musical skills; I want them to learn about teamwork, creativity, and self-expression. Music can teach us many valuable lessons, and I hope to help my students discover and appreciate these lessons.
In summary, music has been a huge influence on my life, and I want to pass that influence on to others. By studying Music Education, I aim to share the joy music has brought me with young people. Through diverse teaching methods, modern technology, and community involvement, I hope to make a lasting impact and help my students experience the same happiness and growth that music has given me.

WinnerFrom the moment I could understand what music was, I absolutely fell in love with it. I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in music, but I didn't know what kind of career until I made it to high school. Growing up in a low-income area, our schools weren't the greatest, and they didn't offer programs to students like me who don't just love football or other sports.
When I moved to a better neighborhood in 2019 and attended Maryvale High School, that's when my love of music and the arts grew. I joined the Musical Theatre club and was in it for my full high school years, eventually being nominated for Outstanding Leading Actor in the then Kenny Awards. I also joined the chorus club.
It was my senior year when I met my new chorus teacher that I knew I wanted to teach music. The choice to become a teacher never crossed my mind in previous years. But the way my senior year choir teacher showed me how much music could mean to someone, I knew that's what I wanted to do with my life. I didn't care if it took another four years of school, with an extra two in graduate school, as long as I got to teach music, then I was okay.
Music has been my solace, my passion, and my joy. It's been the one constant in my life, no matter what else was going on. I want to share that love and passion with others, especially those who might not have had the opportunities I did growing up. I want to teach in schools where students might not have access to the arts otherwise, and show them the beauty and power of music.
I've seen firsthand the impact that music can have on students' lives. It's not just about learning notes and rhythms; it's about learning discipline, teamwork, and creativity. It's about building confidence and self-expression. And it's about creating a community where everyone is welcome and valued.
So what drives my passion for music? The idea that some day I'll be able to teach it, and introduce it to young minds like it was introduced to me, and hopefully they fall in love with music like I did

I know it won't be easy. Teaching is a challenging profession, especially in today's world. But I believe that the rewards will far outweigh the challenges. The thought of being able to inspire and empower students through music is what drives me forward.
I'm excited to continue my degree in Music Education and learn everything I can about how to be the best teacher possible. I know there will be ups and downs along the way, but I'm ready to face them head-on. Because at the end of the day, I know that I'm pursuing my passion and making a difference in the lives of others. And that's what truly matters to me.
