My name is Anthony Savala, I am from Hemingford, Nebraska. I have lived in Hemingford my entire life. I consider myself an honest, hard-working, flexible, and a very hands-on individual. I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. Some of the activities that I enjoy doing in my spare time are fishing and being at the lake. One day I hope to be able to purchase my own boat. I have always enjoyed classes in high school such as welding because I like to be as kinesthetic as possible. I feel like I have strong communication skills as well. I have held a part-time job throughout high school at Westco (currently) and Village Pizza constantly working on building relationships with community members. I feel like having a strong relationship with people in the Hemingford community is essential since we are such a small area, also my family is from Hemingford and resides here so it means a lot to them that I respect our family name.
I have been accepted into the WNCC Lineman Program and I plan to obtain my certificate during this process. The Lineman program is twelve months of hands-on learning as well as learning the basic book work in the classroom. I have already had to purchase all of the required equipment to assist me in becoming successful, which was a large investment but one that I feel like it will be beneficial in my future. When going through the Lineman program I realize I will be faced with various difficulties such as admission costs, working out in freezing/extremely hot weather conditions, maintaining a part-time job, and working with individuals in the community/surrounding areas. However, this is an area that I am passionate about and feel I can be successful in.
After graduating from WNCC, I plan to work as a Lineman somewhere in the panhandle, hopefully I can get a full time job close to Hemingford because I feel like it would be beneficial because we don't have enough support at times in this area already. Eventually, one day I would like to start my own business focusing on different electrical fields to be able to assist the Hemingford community more. The thought of possibly being my own boss one day seems like it would be a great plan because I am driven and have a good work ethic. I feel like this trade is beneficial because electricity will be here forever and continues to advance.
This scholarship would mean a lot to me as I have to pay for my trade school independently. I hope to accomplish my goals in the future and bring pride to the Hemingford community.
Sincerely, Anthony Savala
