Before I begin my essay, I want to offer my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your daughter. Although I never had the privilege of knowing her, I understand she was only a year younger than I am, and that truly puts things into perspective. Hearing about her story has stayed with me, and I feel deeply moved by the legacy she left behind. It’s incredibly meaningful that this scholarship exists in her honor. To be considered as someone worthy of carrying on even a small piece of that legacy is something I don’t take lightly. Like Bayli, I am passionate about design and am working hard to carve out a path in the creative field. I have been attending a local community college here in Pennsylvania for the past few years, and it has truly been a time of personal and academic growth. I’ve achieved a lot that I’m proud of, not just in terms of grades, but in the relationships I’ve built and the work I’ve created. Each project has pushed me to become more confident in my skills, and it’s helped me shape a vision for the kind of designer and person I want to be. My creativity comes in waves. I’ve noticed that I’m often the most inspired during moments of calm or when I’m occupied with something completely unrelated to art. It’s during those unexpected times that ideas start to flow. Regardless of how they come to me, I always try to incorporate something personal into every piece I make. Whether I’m working on a digital advertisement, a piece of clothing, or a simple sketch, I want it to reflect who I am and what I value. While I love the process of designing, my real goal goes beyond just creating something visually appealing. I want my work to matter. I hope to one day use my designs to make a difference, whether that’s by raising awareness, making someone feel seen, or simply inspiring someone to create something of their own.
